Kansas Kate and Dr. Wayland part company with their fellow riders, stepping away from the courthouse and walking down Lincoln’s Main Street at an unhurried pace. Dawn has overtaken twilight, the last line of orange glow fading from the horizon, giving up the sky to a hazy blue that is crowded with clumps of iron gray clouds that threaten rain. Even with the arrival of the day, the wide thoroughfare remains just as quiet as it was in the pre-dawn dark. Lights burn in several windows, but most of the business owners have remained inside. Only Javier Ramirez, the saddle maker, has ventured out to sweep his shop’s steps.

Lights still shine brightly in the windows of the Murphy Store, the brief shifting of shadows confirming that there are people within. Across the street, a warm glow can be seen from behind the batwing doors of the Wilson Saloon. Two men and a woman loiter on the bar’s porch, smoking and idly watching the street without conversing.

"Doc, if ah don't acknowledge yer presence, it ain't cuz ah'm ashamed of ya.  It's cuz ah need to make this personal-like 'tween me and our boy John.  If yer gonna anger a snake, ya want ta know who th' snake wants ta bite."

Kansas Kate considered a moment, then opted for the saloon.  It was more predictable sure, but that was the point.  She needed to play this in classic style and take as many variables out as possible.

Step one was to walk in boldly like she owned this town and go right up to the bar, telling anyone in the way to go to perdition.  Step once commenced presently.

Dr. Wayland smiled a bit wanly at Kate's assurance about not acknowledging him,"No offense taken, of coahse.  Happens all the time."  After a moment, he added, just in case there was any interest, "Ah could supply you with a few special rounds...  Designed to incapacitate rathah than kill..."  He didn't press it any farther than that.  Really it was just a courtesy suggestion.

He would only pause on the off chance Kate actually did take him up on the offer.  Otherwise, Dr. Wayland would vary his pace and angle away so that they did not seem to have been walking anywhere together.  He took a slightly more roundabout route to arrive at at the store as separately as possible.

The trio gathered on the porch of Wilson’s watch Kansas Kate as she enters. None of the three speak to the outlaw, nor do they try to impede her path. Kansas Kate can see that all three are armed with pistols, the woman with a two gun rig.

Inside, a long bar backed by a wide mirror takes up half of the room; several round tables and low backed chairs occupy the other side. At the back of the barroom is a doorway hung with a worn red curtain. A deeply tanned man with a drooping mustache is seated at the bar, sipping coffee from a tin cup. Another man with coal black hair and a thick beard, clad in a dusty poncho, occupies one of the tables, whittling a length of wood with a hunting knife. The bartender, a bald man with a nose that has been broken numerous times, is polishing glasses. He glances at Kansas Kate, but does not speak to her when she enters.

Dr. Wayland and Tamsin River step inside a moment later, taking in the subdued scene.

OOC: Dr. Wayland, it sounded as though your intention was to follow Kansas Kate, without giving the appearance of being her associate. However, you mentioned the store in your post, not the saloon. If I’ve sent you somewhere you didn’t want to go, just let me know, and I’ll edit things accordingly.

Kansas Kate walked up to the bar and rapped on it, following it up with a sharp whistle.  She clearly demanded service.
