count me in too, you may not need to put up a public 'Players wanted' at this rate

Re: OOC
In reply to Hanto (msg # 240):

I hope so.  A couple months ago I talked about it in the Star Wars Saga Community where it got the interest of a few players I know are dedicated to the games they join.  I don't want to read a bunch of RTJs.  It's often hard to say no to them.  People put a lot of effort into writing them.  I know how it feels to write a ton of background only to have the GM not even reply.  I get turned down 3 out of 4 RTJs, and it hurts.  But I only want to get a few players, like maybe 3.  Solo games are so much work.  I have to keep pace with the players, and sometimes players can post at a great rate when they don't have to wait on other players.

Okay, sounds like there's some interest here so I will tell you more detail about my idea for a Star Wars game.  It starts with the basic premise of "What if some little thing happened differently in Episode IV?"  And what if that little thing had major consequences to the story?  That critical little thing I thought of was "What if R5-D4 didn't have a bad motivator?"  Then Uncle Owen would never have bought R2-D2, Luke would have never chased off after R2, the Galaxy might never have been saved from the Death Star.  So if not bought by Uncle Owen, how could R2-D2 complete his mission?  How will the Galaxy be saved if not by Luke?  Some other hero has to come to R2's aid.  There has to be Another Hope.  So these would be solo games for original characters who take the place of Luke.  They'd start at 2nd level like Luke and grow as the story progresses.  The plot could run just like the movie, or it might go completely different.  I have no idea.  Hence why I would ask players to give me a plot synopsis.  This is their story, not mine.  I would just referee it, not gamemaster it.  Sounds like the sort of thing that could easily done by freeform, but I prefer the structure of rules.  Rules are what brought me into roleplaying initially.  As a kid I would have been a LARPer big time if such a thing had been invented yet.

The crux of the problem is, the game is not even running, but it receives bumping.

Why bother advertising a game that's even on hold?

In reply to Mark (msg # 245):

Yeah, that's weird.  There are already 5 game threads here and 2 more waiting to start.  Yet he is trying to recruit more players?  Talk about biting off more than he can chew.  This is like that and ordering up another helping.

Re: OOC
to be fair, DM bumped the recruitment thread on the same day they showed back up and PM'd everyone and all that. I assume at that point they intended to follow-through.

Maybe he is having a game?  Like how many players can you get together in one room but actually have no game for them!

Meh, we are all patient people, right? I guess we would't play PbP if we weren't. He will show up soon.

Exactly, you never really know what could be going on IRL. Unexpected things pop up all the time. All you need is a little time and willingness to be patient and forgiving.

Meh, patience is for hospitals -- wait, that's patients. Damn, it works better when spoken than written.

Re: OOC
Patience is for hospitals to.  Seems like hospital people have nothing better to do than keep you waiting.  I spent a lot of time in hospital waiting rooms waiting for them to get done with my father.  If only they had affordable wireless devices then.  I could have gotten a lot of posting done.  Instead I had to get a lot of reading done.

Re: OOC
As a kid, not even a teenager, I spent a lot of time in hospitals while they cared for my mother. In those days, computers weren't even a thing, much less warehouse-sized. I usually kept a book with me to pass the time while my father spent time with my mother. I got a lot of reading done as a child. Sort of explains why I wanted to be a Librarian. I even have a small placard I used on a practicum at a Catholic School Library - "Conan the Librarian" that sat on the Teacher-Librarian's desk while she was teaching. :)

Anybody know anything about the new 'adventurers guild' game posting apparently inspired by this one?

I don't think they meant inspired by this game specifically.

The lack of players wasn't the problem. A vanished GM sort of puts an end to the game.

Re: OOC
I think an effective way to run a game like this is to have players GM quests their characters are not on. That way someone dropping out or missing for a few days is not fatal

DM, if you are still around, I request to be removed from the game.

Re: OOC
The GM last logged on on 20th Nov but his last post was 9th Nov.  That speaks to me of lack of interest.  So I think I will quietly slip away.  Bye all.
