Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
Pat enters the broken sword tavern with a confident stride. He is a rugged man bearing the symbol of Waukeen goddess of trade around his neck. He takes a moment to survey the interior of the tavern and grins. He likes what he sees.

Noticing the thin form of T'Kithian sitting alone Pat approaches with a grin. Hey uh, I'm new in town and well... Pat gestures to an empty seat at T'Kithian's table. Would you mind?

Kith looked up at the rugged man and indicated the seat across from him,"By all means, join me.  I'm Kith, a newcomer looking for work."  Kith thought to himself, one step at a time, one foot in front of another.  Move forward and start anew.

Pat moves into the empty seat and signals for a waitress Nice to meet you Kith, I'm Pat. As it turns out I'm also looking for work. Work beyond the walls. So, have you heard any rumors worth repeating?

Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
In reply to Pat Higglesworth (msg # 217):

Kith ran his hands through his red hair.  He orders a mead and then replies to Pat, "Well met, Pat.  I think we just missed the Fellowship of the Green getting ready to head out. I've heard rumors walking from the ship to here about experiments and the old slave pits and network of caves.  Those seem like high risk ventures in that there isn't a specific sponsor declaring a payment for services.  These seem like ventures that could yield great reward or nothing at all.  I have enough coin and rations to survive on for about a week, so I'm willing to take a risk.  How about you?"

Kith took a drink of the local mead and thought about the prospect of using his magic to do more than survive, but to go on the offensive and to earn a living.  It would be nice to afford better clothes.

Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
Well Kith I know you will be thrilled to learn I am an accomplished explorer and survivalist. If we die out there it won't be from hunger. I'd steak my life on it!

Pat laughs uproariously at his own joke as he takes a swig of ale.

Wiping his mouth with his sleeve thoughtfully Pat says I have to say those caves have captured my interest. As an explorer I'd much prefer discovering the wonders of a mysterious cavern than uncover the grisly leavings of civilization's greatest shame.

You like fried potatoe skins? I'm thinking about ordering some.

Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
Kith smiled at Pat's humor.  It had been a long time since he had actually smiled at about anything.  "Potato skins sounds like a good meal to go with the mead.  Yes, I think the caves could yield a return even if don't find any treasure.  Just reporting back the news could produce a small reward." The redhead took another drink of his mead.  "I wonder if there is anyone else that would like to join us."  He looks around the room for likely prospects.

Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
After a long streak of songs, Alsyana finally decided to put down the lute to take a few sips of ale, her throat a bit sore. She discreetly orders something at the counter and approaches T'Kithian and Pat's table, a basket of fried potato skins in hand.

How about we wonder together ? And maybe then wander later  ? *She smiles, laying the basket on the table as she bows respectfully*

Alsyana. Researcher, storyteller, collector of knowledge ! Pleased to meet you lads.

Welcome to our fledgling fellowship. We definitely need a woman of your talent and generosity

Pat helps himself to some potatoe skins.

You hear about these caves? Interested in an expedition?

Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
Kith nodded his head and pointed to one of the open seats.  He stuttered, "Th..th..Thank you for the skins.  You're very talented, both your voice and your skill with the lute."  He looked over to Pat and then back to her, "I'm Kith," his pale skin was turning as red as his hair.  Kith's confidence was growing and he continued, "We think the caves might prove to be challenging but hopefully rewarding."

Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
Alsyana nodded vehemently at the two men, giggling slightly at Kith's sudden stuttering.
Sitting down, she lays her elbow on the table, failing to notice that she missed the edge of the table by a few centimeters, almost clumsily falling forward, over her chair.

Eeeh !

Catching herself back with the other hand, the half elf clears her throat, acting like nothing happened.

Indeed they seem interesting ! There is all manner of creatures living under the surface, I can't wait to record it all !

She ponders a second.

Usually though, underwater beasts are said to be muuuch nastier than their surface counterparts, we'll probably need a group of people with... complementary skills ? And good coordination.

What are you guys' trade... well aside from our cook here nodding at Pat.

Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
Hold on, I don't know if I like being called a 'cook.' Sets a bit of an expectation. I promise you wont starve but depending on what's available out there you may want to

Pat shamelessly helps himself to the last potato skin and carries on while he chews.

Besides my survival skills I am a lore master and have the eyes of a hawk and the ears of a gossipy school girl. I'm also a trained cartographer so if nothing else we'll get a decent map of the tunnels for our trouble. I also give great advice. The first of which is that no one should be going into any caves without a rope so make sure to pick one up before we head out.

What of you two? I expect you have more to offer this venture than your good looks and great taste in adventuring companions.

Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
The girl chuckled a bit at Pat.

To be fair, even if you started cooking rats or insects it would proooobably be better than what I got on the ship coming here soooo... I'll go ahead and trust you on that.

Slightly tapping on the table with the tip of her fingers, she listened carefully to Higglesworth's curriculum vitae.

I myself am kind of a survivalist as well ! But my jungle is mostly made of muddy streets, towers of brick, slate tiled roofs... I find society sometimes nastier than most goblin dens. And I'm good at talking my way through it !

She pondered, nibbling on the inside of her cheek for a second, looking at the ceiling.

Buuut I guess that wouldn't be of much use in a cave, would it ? In these situations, while I'm not much of a fighter I like to toy with minds, influence OR raise spirits alike ! Also, I make killer cocktails !

She turned her gaze towards Kith

Kith listened intently to Pat and Alsyana.  He considered their skills and attitudes. Kith wished he could be carefree and joke about his life.

"I'm not nearly as skilled as the two of you.  Though, I am observant of both my surroundings and behavior.  I also can summon other worldly powers."

Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
Alsyana leaned towards Kith, a glint of curiosity in her eyes, almost jumping on her seat.

Oooh, "otherwordly", she actually airquoted with indexes and middlefingers. I like that word ! Can you tell us more ? Can I record it ?

She turns a bit towards Pat.

Do you think once we find a couple more people you could guide us through some purchases ? Get the right stuff while reducing costs... I'm extra broke... pouts her lips at that sudden reminder.

Kith's mouth opened wide at Alsyana's question.  He quickly covered his mouth and stammered, "Most...people...fear...no they don't like my 'otherworldly' relationship."  He mimicked Alsyana's air quotes as he said otherworldly. "Will we all need rope?"

Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
Pat is a bit taken aback by Kith's small outburst. He takes a minute to scrutinize the man, his hand subconsciously moving to his holy symbol. Then, as if nothing happened,

Yes I think we should all have some rope if we can get it. We should also get maybe a grappling hook, some chalk for markings, maybe some pitons and iron spikes too. I have to confess though that I am piss broke as well, however I already got a rope and enough torches and light for all of us.

Maybe one of you two could foot the bill for a few of those supplies?

Re: The Broken Sword Tavern
The half elf's eyes lost focus for a moment, staring in the emptiness. Her index finger started moving, as well as her lips.
She shook her head after a few seconds.

Well, I need to buy a new suit of armor... buuut by selling a few things I do not need, I could afford some of that equipment. Depending on the costs.
However I'm not sure I have seen a specialized shop for that ! I definitely found a blacksmith and a potions brewer, but that's about it. We might have to go for a walk.

Alsyana tilted her head sideways, returning to Kith.

Fear is a poison of the mind that you can choose not to take.

Now distractedly ran the tip of her finger across the edge of her glass as she smiled.

First, as a scholar, I believe that most fears or rejections come from the unknown, the unusual. All it takes is to try to understand. Second... and especially, let's face it, those caverns are not rumored to be peaceful. And we would prove to be a much more cohesive group if we are not suddenly startled by our own fellowship, don't you think ?

She looks at Pat to ask for his confirmation.

I mean, I'd rather be somewhat unsettled now and prepare myself mentally than getting scared in the thick of the exploration, should we need you to use those... otherworldly... thingies ! Can I call them thingies ? I'll call them thingies !

Kith. She wants to see your thingy.

OOC: I just realized the char gen rules indicate we get 25 more gold than I thought we did so affording these supplies should be no prob.

She shows a bright smile, turning slowly towards Pat, in an almost mechanical motion, you could swear her joints creaked as if she turned into some kind of gnomish clockwork construct.

Have you heard about the benefits of proctological exploration with a lute ?

What are your thoughts on the subject Kith?

Kith considered Alsyana's comments, "Well, don't be surprised by fire or beams of energy and light that may come from me.  People are more afraid of the source of my power rather than the power itself."  He looked over at Pat, "Trust me as I say the source of power comes from a pact to save my village."

Just make sure you keep it under control. I don't like it but it's not my place to judge. That's for those insufferable Pelorites to do and gods know there's enough of those crawling around.

She nodded at Kith.

Well, I hail from Luskan, we have a rather proficient circle of spellcasters over there so your fireworks should be allright.

She scratched her left cheekbone, giving the warlock a understanding look.

I'm quite interested as to where those powers come from but if you wish not to disclose it for now, it's allright for me.

So ! she clapped her hands together, smiling brightly as her gaze went back and forth from Kith to Pat. How much people do you think we'll need for this little venture of ours ? Might aswell say it right now, I need people to hide behind ! she chuckled.

Maybe we wait a little bit for a fourth person, then consider heading out as three? I'm starting to feel cooped up in this city.

Alwyn makes his way into the abandoned tavern. He reaches behind the bar, grabs a bottle and a cup and sits quietly.
