Notes about the Brotherhood of the Third Woe

The Brotherhood of the Third Woe is a doomsday cult bound in Christian Eschatology Philosophy that has garnered popular support in Colorado since the nuclear attacks against the United States. Their primary area of operations is in the Aurora Colorado Area, but have conducted many operations throughout the state, even hitting targets in Wyoming and Kansas. They became active as a group in 1998, but only gained prominence after the destruction of Buckley AFB.

Philosophy, History, Methods and Tactics

The Brotherhood takes it's name from the Book of Revelations 8:14 "The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly." They believe that the Great Tribulation is at hand, and those that were worthy in the West were taken during the nuclear holocaust, whilst the Devil gathered his forces in The Soviet Union and other Communist countries, and that the Third Woe is nigh. Their doctrine requires that those few unworthy faithful left behind to cleanse the world of the remains of the old order before the final battle between God and Satan.

No one knows who the founder of the organization is, but the belief amongst the populace is that it is the much maligned traitor, Major Roger Ellis, the man who destroyed Buckley AFB. There is some evidence that this may be correct, that the Major and his Soviet allies does at least have some influence within the organization, however, The DIA believes that the leadership is another individual, and may be the man on radio station 93.1 that espouses the groups views. Whomever founded the group, it has turned into a movement. The leader of the organization is called The Great Prophet by those who follow him.

They believe that God is giving the remaining faithful another chance to purge themselves of sin and allowed to be taken into heaven on earth by destroying the remains old secular order that has tainted what is left of America, specifically. They are organized into small independent groups called Knights, who have worked to set back recovery efforts by sabotage, arson, violence, murder, and assassinations. Their most infamous attacks include the February 2001 riots, the 33rd Street Mass Shooting (which the PC's were instrumental in stopping), the bombing of the Governor's Courier office, and the The Black Purge (a coordinated series of mass shootings of several FEMA, Army Corp of Engineering, and Civilian recovery sites and food distribution centers) that was orchestrated on Boxing Day in 2000 which claimed the life of prominent government official Bill Hutch's 17 year old daughter, Cindy Hutch, who was helping at a food distribution center in Denver.

One of their more notorious activities are their street trials. This is a way of creating fear amongst the community and coercing people over to their cause. They have created large mobs of angry Adherents (those who follow the new gospel, but are not members) who have lead to burning and stoning of heretics and sinners. Those targeted include members of the LBGT community, non-whites, suspected communists, those working for the government, those suspected of immoral acts, including Apostacy, prostitution, Atheism, premarital sex, reading proscribed literature (most literature is proscribed, and is actively destroyed), and members of non-Christian faiths. Christians who don't support them have been targets of harassment, beatings, and other crimes.

They use terror tactics against everyone who is not them. Their favorite methods outside of street trials include kidnapping, improvised roadside bombs, and arson. They also have conducted raids on high priority targets, breaking into homes and killing anyone in them. They have convinced Adherents to commit suicide bombings. They attack businesses that are still in operation, and demand an end to mass agriculture, manufacturing, and immunization efforts insisting that famine and plague are God's great punishments, and they should hasten it's demise. Modern technology is considered blasphemy, with the exceptions of devices to wage war against the non-believers.

Ties to Soviet Intelligence

There is strong evidence to suspect that the Soviet Union is supplying training and weapons to the Brotherhood covertly. Several advanced Soviet weapons have been discovered amongst their militia forces, and their urban warfare tactics have been textbook communist guerilla training programs that the Soviets have used successfully in Central Africa, Indochina, the Middle East, and Africa. DIA analysts believe the mobile FM Radio transmitter is of Soviet Manufacture.

93.1

The Brotherhood uses a mobile transmitter to broadcast on FM frequency 93.1 propaganda, calls to action from Adherents, and possibly coded messages to Knights to coordinate actions between cells. Pre recorded messages from a man described as either "fiery" or "creepy" depending on the listener are broadcast for an hour at a time before the transmitter has moved. Triangulating the transmitter has been frustrated by countermeasures which make it difficult to detect. Recently, DIA operatives managed to discover two young children who are believed to have witnessed the individuals who are responsible for the radio.

Fear

There is a lot of secrecy around the Brotherhood.  They use fear to do their recruiting, and the communities in which they are active, the locals are very quiet about their activities to avoid the Brotherhood's wrath. Cracking this atmosphere of fear will pay dividends.
