Starting Equipment

Starting Equiment

Some starting equipment notes.

Starting Gear: Use the base starting gear on page 63 of version 2.2 to start. Use the American startup gear regardless of your character's nationality.

Pick some gear that is necessary to your specialty. Be reasonable. Don't overload yourself on stuff, remember, you are essentially a quick reaction force. You want to be fast.
Some Examples: Personal Medkit for medics, a 1km manpack radio for commander
or Communications, an engineer's demolition kit for the combat engineer, etc...

Add 5 MRE's to your possessions, and everyone gets an NVG and a set of sub vocal mikes (those slick radios that you can whisper real quiet in to talk to others with). Add 120 more rounds for your main firearm. Don't spend your gold pieces at start up, because I have found that this detracts from game play when you have so much gear that you pretty much have no reason to get more.

Weapons: Please choose two firearms from your nationality's standard firearm list with a few additions to the list:

        1. M4 Block 1 SOPMOD (Submachine Gun):

M4 SOPMOD: Caliber: 5.56mm Nato Weight: 2.6kg (base) Mag: 20/30 Cost: $878
ROF: 5 DAM: 3 PEN: 1-Nil, Bulk 4/5 SS: 3 Brst: 7 RNG: 38 Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOPMOD

Accessories for the SOPMOD are the standard to start, and can choose 2 Optics from the link above, and either a laser/NVG setup or a M203 setup

        M11 (Handgun)

M11: Caliber 9mmP Weight: .83 kg Mag: 13 Price: $237
ROF: SA Dam: 1 Pen: NIL Bulk: 1 SS: 3 BRST: N/A Range: 9 Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/..._P226#P228_.28M11.29

        HK USP 45 (Handgun):

HK USP 45: Caliber: .45ACP Weight: .79kg Mag: 10/12 Price: $402
ROF: SA Dam: 2 Pen: Nil Bulk:1 SS: 3 BRST Nil Range: 12 Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_%26_Koch_USP

Also, any of the Stoner Weapon Systems guns in the Infantry Weapons book, and in place of a sidearm, you can choose a standard heavy weapon with prior GM approval.

You will be assigned vehicles when MILGOV decides to assign them to you. You will have some interesting options at times.

So the Rules for The AN/PEQ-2 are as follows- WT: .25kg +2 Bonus to hit with a range of 100m, also has an IR Illuminator that acts like a flashlight out to 600m. Both require NVG's to use. Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/PEQ-2 Link: http://www.pmulcahy.com/equipment/vision_devices.html The second link, use the rules for the Laser/Infrared Aiming Light

An ACOG is a 4x scope that has an illuminated reticle that uses tritium. Wt: .3kg Range Modifier: 20m

Other SOPMOD options:
ECOS-N or Reflex sight:  Allows +2 to hit when properly fitted and sighted. This device provides this modification out to a range of 100 meters. Wt 0.1kg,Range 26m (short), 20m (medium). Does not have long or extreme range.

AN/PAS-13 (Substitute for AN/PVS-17) Thermal Weapons Sight: A user of this sight can identify targets at a range of 690 meters (down to telling what type of uniform is worn, type of weapon carried, whether the target has a mustache, etc.), and larger objects such as vehicles and buildings at a range of 1000 meters. Most of these devices have crosshairs to facilitate aiming. Glass and Plexiglas are opaque to the Thermal Weapons Sight, and appear black. These sights were introduced by NATO and Israeli forces in early in 1997; as such, supplies of these sights are low, and they are hard to come by. Weight: 2kg Modifier: 12 M Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/PAS-13

AN/PEQ-5 Carbine Visible Laser: WT: .1kg +2 Bonus to hit with a range of 100m Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/PEQ-5

Sound Suppressor Kit: The character attempting to spot someone using this suppresser gets a -4 Observation at short and medium range and -3 Observation as long and extreme range. Wt 0.5kg,

Forward Handgrip: -1 to BRST Recoil when in use. Weight: .1kg

Visible Bright Light is simply a flashlight on the mounted on the rails.

The AN/PSQ-18 is not available.

With the exception of the ACOG and the thermal scope, you may choose any type of optic for free. M203 rules are the same as in the book and include the standard flip sight. Any optics chosen outside of iron sights can have Backup sights as well for free.

Here is a nice infographic on Wikipedia that details the options available for the SOPMOD Block 1: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SOPMOD_2-2005.jpg
