Making Waves
As the group traveled down the pier and neared Captain Frost's ship, orders could be heard being called out to the crew. Whereas most of the ship crews had long since secured their vessels and hunkered down for the storm, Captain Frost's ship was as active as ever. When the party arrived, a deckhand hurried them aboard so that they might retract the gangplank. The storm had not quite reached Markhain yet, but a drizzle was starting and wind was making the waters choppier by the minute. Everyone was led up to the prow of the ship where Captain frost stared out at the coming storm, her icy skin glistening in the last rays of daylight, with the woman only occasionally turning to issue a quick order to her crew.
While still looking out to the storm ahead, she said to the party, "You made it back in time. I was beginning to wonder. And with new faces too." She looked with curiosity to Sybilla, the new hirelings, and then finally to Marcus's arm. "I see the ice crystals in your arm have stabilized. That's a good sign." She looked to the sea again "We need to raise anchor and leave as soon as possible. When a storm rolls in like this, it sometimes attracts great sea beasts to the shoreline. They like to gobble what the waves churn up. We need to get out ahead of them, or wait until the storm passes. And that could be days. Days we do not have. I have a schedule to keep." Those that knew of Frost's Devil's Bargain could sense a bit of extra urgency in her words.
"The upper decks can become quite treacherous in a storm, so walk around at your own risk. Just do not get in the way of my crew, especially when the wind is against us like this. A few seconds wasted can sometimes spell disaster. I will send someone to issue your chores eventually, but I am unsure when that will be." She turned abruptly to the side and yelled, "RAISE ANCHOR!" and then turned back to the party. "If there is anything else you need, ask it now. I don't expect myself or the rest of the crew to have any time for trivialities until we break through the storm." She looked to everyone questioningly, but continued shooting glances around the ship to make sure her crew was handling everything appropriately.
