Re: OOC2

GM,

There is only one move for crafting poisons.

Brewer
When you have time to gather materials and a safe place to brew you can create three doses of any one poison you have used before.

The starting move, Poisoner, allows the same for the poison you select when you take the move.

You said that Chance would be able to find some recipes, but what he actually needs is prepared poisons. There aren't any rules for using recipes. As far as I can tell unless you want to homebrew something. (Although come to think of it, I suppose whipping up a batch of poison could be a defy danger roll.)

It's kind of nit-picky, I know, but I just want to keep things on the up and up.

Eryn:
Sorry for being late to reply again; I've been dealing with some stress + lack of sleep, and this place we got introduced to in-game after my last post is huge. It's a lot to read and contemplate, so I have been putting off writing a post because my brain hasn't been able to formulate a proper plan of action yet. "Over lunch on Monday," I thought during the weekend, and then suddenly it's Friday again.

Regarding your question, Ilura: Yes, I'd absolutely love to use the forge. :)

No worries. I realized the last few updates would be a lot to absorb all at once and was not expecting quick replies. Update when you can, but don't feel pressured to rush. Real life comes first.

With a recipe, hypothetically anyone could brew up the poison if they had the time, materials, and equipment. The sanctum has all of those.

With your starting poison type, you can brew that particular type of poison without a recipe, and using only rudimentary equipment and found ingredients. It is much easier for that kind of poison to be made. With the "Brewer" ability, you can essentially make any poison you are familiar with while you are out adventuring, as long as you are in a safe area. Without "Brewer," you would need access to proper equipment, buy materials, and a read a recipe each time you want to make more of any poison besides Goldenroot.

Note: Poisons other than Goldenroot retain their "Dangerous" tag when you use them unless you have the "Poison Master" advanced move.

Oh, and on another note, you can also add one XP for your bond with Aguri that you dissolved.

Ok, thank you for clearing that up. I guess I ought to take Poison Master this level, then, and pick up Brewer, or maybe Envenom next level.

If you make extra batches while we're here (presumably they'll have recipes, materials and equipment), I can theoretically carry extras in my top-hat if you're short of space.

@Chance,

I'm fine with that.  It'll be interesting to see how it resolves.

For my new one with you, how about:
"The little halfling is a bit of an enigma.  Who is he really and where did he come from?"

I just noticed this and it suits me just fine. That can of worms might as well get opened up sooner, rather than later.

When Valteshi shows Ilura at least some of the weapons and armor that are magical in nature, there will be at least one weapon or armor that is a type you (either the player or character) is interested in. It could be a shield, a crossbow, leather armor, a lance, or other.

Feel free to tell me now, what is one type of weapon/armor she shows you? Note: You are not picking its magic. Only its physical form.

Ilura is interested in a rapier and/or leather armor.  (As a player, I'm interested in a bow too, but there's no chance Ilura's giving up the bow that was inscribed by Luciny :>)

Re: OOC2

End of session

Did we learn something new and important about the world?
Yes, we learned of all the things the Silver Scourge members have kept hidden.

Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
Yes, the kraken feels like the most obvious one.

Did we loot a memorable treasure?
I agree with the others that this place itself may be a treasure of sorts. (If that doesn't count, it's fine.)

Alignment
Neutral - Defeat a worthy opponent.
Befitting a Fighter, I helped best the Kraken on its home turf.

Hirelings
I think Ilura covered these ones well.

Bonds
Ilura misunderstands me about the dangerous allure of magic. I will show her what good it can do.
I think I may have shown the worth of my magic by calling a spirit to help open the sealed door.

This darkness is growing out of my control. I need Ilura to keep it at bay.
It's not gone yet. I'll keep this one.

Marcus owes me their life, whether they admit it or not.
Marcus has left. Not sure if I can repay the debt before campaign's end. Should I simply replace this bond?

I can't deny that he is useful, but Chance's schemes puts me in situations I can justly complain about.
Getting your hand stuck in a well shaft wasn't the best use of our time, but it got us past the trap. Resolved? :)

Chance will be useful to us, I can practically taste it! Wait, what am I thinking?
I haven't bitten him. Yet. This will stand as is.

I agree that Chance's bond with me has been resolved.

Suggestions for replacing the bonds:
- Seems like we are back on the hunt again, Ilura, perhaps for the last time?
- Chance, I hope you will not make a rash decision in joining the Silver Scourge.

-----

Now that I have access to a proper forge, I would love to make use of my Blacksmith move.
quote:
"When you have access to a forge you can graft the magical powers of a weapon onto your signature weapon. This
process destroys the magical weapon. Your signature weapon gains the magical powers of the destroyed weapon."

To this end, I will take the glowing blue blade and hopefully transfer the following properties:
- Cut shadows, and the related DEX move to pin the enemy's shadow.
- Blue glow. :)

Next I will take the oversized demonic mace from Westley and find whatever beneficial properties it has (may require research?), and transfer those to my weapon as well.

If there is silver nearby, it may be good to alloy this into the weapon as well, if it will not weaken the structure.

If there is material left over from the mace, perhaps it is useful to someone else?

-----

I seem to have enough XP to level up regardless of how the End of Session goes. I'll get back to you on that one. Following this, if we rest and recover, I wish to prepare new spells too.

I would have interest in the alchemy lab if I didn't happen to lose the vials I had earlier. Instead I will roam in search for curse-breaking items and spells, perhaps in the library as suggested.

You can replace your bond with Marcus if you would like, and gain the XP from it. If he comes back, you can always form a new bond.

There is enough silver around that you can add some to your weapon if you wish. There is enough supplies in the material storage areas that you won't run out of forging supplies any time soon. However, when you forge the mace into your weapon, it will be completely destroyed despite being as big as it is. Even if material is left behind, it would not provide any sort of magical benefits.

Re: OOC2

OK, I will probably strike the bond with Marcus, then, though I don't have a good replacement right now. I must ponder that for a little bit.

I figured the mace would lose its magic when I use it for my own weapon, so that's fair. Beyond that, would you say there's anything special about the metal which could be cool to preserve in other items, or was it simply a big hunk of steel like most other weapons?

Once all of the magic leaves it, it is basically just a hunk of regular metal. The stats I gave for it a long time ago are posted below for convenience. I think the only stats that would transfer though are the Magical (planar) tag. The rest mostly are due to its size and shape.

Game Master:
Eryn, here are the stats for the angelic/demonic morningstar you recovered:

Weight 4, Huge, Clumsy, Close, Forceful, +4 Damage, 1 Piercing, Magical (planar).

The weapon is roughly as tall as you are and the spiked ball at the end crackles with planar magic.

Re: OOC2

What does Magical (planar) do - other than look cool?

Moving discussion from the IC thread here, because it's all OOC stuff:

quote:
but only after all of her other armor is first destroyed

The Armor Mastery move says the character gets to choose whether armor or shield takes the blow?

Mail of the Infinite Chain - would this negatively impact stealth movement or swimming?  Can the wearer easily choose to break off a set of chain or would they have to carry around tools to cut it?

Dwarven Battle Pick - so we'd have to kill the goblin first, then turn it into coin? :)

Question: Am I allowed to do research without spouting lore?

BTW: Haven't forgotten your question about where the other exits are.  I'm thinking about what would make interesting answers :)

Chance: sounds like Ilura can take care of purifying your dagger for you - provided that you trust her with it.

Re: OOC2

Ilura:
What does Magical (planar) do - other than look cool?

Good question. In this instance I will say it means the weapon counts as Good, Evil, or both simultaneously. Whichever alignment is most beneficial to the wielder. And is also wrapped in a general layer of divine magic (good, evil, or both).

quote:
quote:
but only after all of her other armor is first destroyed

The Armor Mastery move says the character gets to choose whether armor or shield takes the blow?

"Armor Mastery
When you make your armor take the brunt of damage dealt to you, the damage is negated but you must reduce the armor value of your armor or shield (your choice) by 1. The value is reduced each time you make this choice. If the reduction leaves the item with 0 armor it is destroyed.
"

Since the shield's armor value can't be reduced, I ruled that it can't be chosen for Armor Mastery unless it is your only option available. It may help to think of it this way: "If you use the shield to block a huge boulder, the shield will be fine, but you will still be squished underneath the shield and the boulder."

Even with this ruling, the indestructible shield/armor mastery combo could totally be abused. However, I have no reason to believe any of you are looking to abuse ability loopholes in such a way, so I'll leave it the way I said. ;-)

quote:
Mail of the Infinite Chain - would this negatively impact stealth movement or swimming?  Can the wearer easily choose to break off a set of chain or would they have to carry around tools to cut it?

It is pasically regular chainmail with an added magical ability. So it would only affect swimming or stealth the same way normal chainmail would. It would make both more difficult, but not impossible.

As for breaking of the chain, you can remove chains from the armor without tools. But once it is removed, it is a normal chain that requires tools to break/etc.

quote:
Dwarven Battle Pick - so we'd have to kill the goblin first, then turn it into coin? :)

Correct. :-)

quote:
Question: Am I allowed to do research without spouting lore?

Yes, if it is reasonable that the information would be in the library, and you spend a significant amount of time searching for it. We'll say a quarter day for each unrolled Spout.

I am planning to let Eryn post before I continue on with the story. At the moment, the plot is complicated enough as it is, and it will only get more difficult to catch up if I keep pressing forward with the story.

Chance, I presume you are looking for poisons in the pharmacology books? Any specific sort of effects you are looking for? For example, sleep effects, rage effects, disease effects, transformation effects, etc. Your imagination is your only limitation.

Ilura, Your true seeing will be bumped up to a 7, and then forgotten. Didn't want to leave you in suspense. ;-)

Re: OOC2

How about...

  • Kosher’s Slip
Dangerous, applied, 50 coins, 0 weight.

The target answers the next question it is asked truthfully.

  • Witchbane
Dangerous, applied, touch, 35 coins,0 weight

Until cured, if the poison was applied the target cannot use magic. If the poison touches the target, magical effects or attacks are diminished or halved, the GM will describe how.

  • and, Godsbane
    Dangerous, applied, 40 coins

Target slowly loses their connection to the divine. Priests and Paladins find their deities' voices grow distant, then silent. Angels and other divine servants wither into mortality. Rumors abound about the effect the poison might have on a god.

Ideally, I'd like Chance to craft three doses of each of those and three doses of Goldenroot.

Re: OOC2

Any of those are fine, or any of the other standard "Thief" poisons you could have chosen at character creation. I will also give you the option of the three listed below. Each recipe will take the better part of a day to research, collect the ingredients for, and mix up safely. You can make two a day if you rush the process a little, but it will require a Defy Danger because you are working with hazardous materials. Each recipe you make creates 3 doses of the poison. Making more of your signature poison only takes about an hour for 3 doses.

If you want to search for more, I can invent other poisons too!

Additional options:

  • Fury's Scorn
Dangerous, touch, 50 coins, 0 weight

Target enters a blind rage and physically attacks the beings nearest to them for roughly a minute. Target deals +1d4 damage while enraged.

  • Whippleroot Extract
Dangerous, touch, 30 coins, 0 weight

Target's becomes rooted to whatever they are touching. They typically can't move from their spot or drop what they are holding.

  • Zombie's Panacea
Dangerous, Applied, 15 coins, 0 weight

Any physical undead this poison is applied to slowly reverts to the state it was in before undeath. (usually a corpse)

Re: OOC2

As you have probably surmised from my radio silence, I've been busy again.

We have some quarterly goals at work which equate to a lot of meetings and enough work tasks to no longer have any drive to write posts over lunch break, and because I'm working from home office thanks to Covid: The Sequel, days have started to blend together.

I'm fairly certain I carry some latent stress and winter hibernation genes as well, for I feel like I'm suffering a -1 thanks to fatigue despite not really being that busy.

I still haven't managed to go over the item list and level up options with enough vigor to actually type out any decisions. Notepad contains the files new1, new2, new3 etc which are posts I've started but not finished. And suddenly it's Wednesday again. x)

I hope to sit down during the weekend and get this done. Just need to relax and get in the mood so it stays as an enjoyable hobby and not a chore; which is hard for me during work days atm.

Sorry for making you wait for me, I hate being slow like this. :)
