Re: OOC1:
In reply to Ilura (msg # 935):

Good point.

Why I'd wanna hang around would come fairly naturally, I think, as soon as Lan learns a bit about your quest. Since from what little I've gathered you're on your way to destroy some evil corpse or something? I admit I've mostly skimmed the last bits of the IC thread, as I would prefer to learn what's happened so far from you guys during actual play.

But yeah, as a neutral druid a big part of my schtick is the destruction of unnatural menaces. Which I gather your objective counts as :)

As for my bonds:
____________ smells more like prey than a hunter.

The spirits spoke to me of a great danger that follows ____________.

I have showed ______________ a secret rite of the Land.

_______________ has tasted my blood and I theirs. We are bound by it.

I think some of them could be in effect as soon as we meet, such as the "smells like prey" one, or the "A great danger follows [insert name here].
The one about being bound from having tasted each others blood could perhaps be tied to Sybilla, if she's down about our characters having met before.
It would fit if they've bonded over the years in various tavern brawls, both with and against each other. Plenty of blood and teeth flying there.

I don't see how or why I would've shown any of the group some secret rite yet, though. That seems like something that'd come later on.

EDIT: Oh, and just to clarify something now that the DM asked about it in a PM, My character has shark teeth and Stag antlers as his druid tells, and they're always present no matter his form. So he can be a horned rabbit with some serious chompers, or a mythical antler carp if he wishes. The teeth and antlers also grow, drop and regrow as they would naturally on their respective animals. So expect shark teeth to drop fairly often, and antlers to shed and give way to nubs about once a year X)

I'll give you guys the day to say anything else to each other you want to say IC, then I will press forward to the ship. Hopefully we will be able to bring Mithralan in soon too.

I think Sybilla would fit the "The spirits spoke to me of a great danger that follows ____________." She is being hunted by her people who may now be either be working unknowingly with the overlord or heralding the coming of an apocalyptic god.

My Possible Bonds:

(Lan?) broke up a fight I was involved in. I was probably going to lose, but they don’t need to know that part.

(Eryn?) and I are (going to be) regular training partners.

I may have killed a relative of (????) at some point in the past.

(Mouse?) seems like they would fold at the first sign of trouble. I don’t trust them.

Sure, those bonds both sound good to me. If I remember correctly, it's not a requirement for every character to have a bond to every other character to begin with anyway.

Though to be fair, if this group is even the slightest like any average adventuring party ever, being followed by a great danger could fit pretty much any of you :P
pulling the rug out under ancient evils and ambitious warlords and gaining their undying hatred is pretty much the bread and butter of heroes, after all.

Still, what is it with you deep sea dwelling species and always heralding some apocalyptic god?
is it a lack of natural light and proper party games that always invariably leads to cultism, or something?

I think Mouse disappeared on us, so they will not be boarding the ship with the rest of you.

In reply to Mithralan (msg # 939):

Haha must be. I just happened to read the dungeon world entries for Tritons and loved the background they gave.

I am thinking I might have killed a relative of Marcus at one point. When we were talking I think he mentioned some relative on a certain ship and Sybilla knows that that ship now lies buried at the bottom of the sea and that her people attacked it. Maybe even to get to her. She sort of regrets not letting Marcus know.

Who was this relative and how did/does Marcus feel about him/her?

If Mouse is gone then I think I will leave my last bond space open for now and see if anyone sparks something during play.

Marcus did have a younger sister that his mother was foresightful enough to send away before things got very bad. I'd say that they are aware that the ship was lost, but don't know what happened to it. He was of course very fond of her and took the loss hard.

Welcome aboard. This party is now a Lan Party. :) If you survive the year you can mount those antlers over the fireplace as a mark of honor.

I don't have anything to add IC right now, so I think I'll wait until we get on the ship proper. For the newcomers, I guess I'll mention that Eryn likes sparring and loves hearing of both magic and traveler's tales, so I imagine we'll get along well.

Feel free to ask Frost whatever you like. You can discuss your plans in the ship some more too if you would like. If you plan to wait until the next stop to act, we can do Perilous Journey rolls now too. Mithralan will be met out at sea, but how he is met will change depending on what you do/how you roll.

Looking over my previous rolls I haven't seen a 6- since October, so I guess it was time. :^)

We should gather IC and discuss what we need to do, I think. There are several options and many unknown facts yet, and we don't really know our new members and hirelings yet.

I'm just trying to figure out how much would Marcus know about the Bargain, considering the timeline. It's most likely we'll set sail and see what we manage to come up with.

will post soon(ish).

Re: OOC1:
A thought has crossed my mind. What would you say the tech level of the World is in general? Is blackpowder a thing, and if so are we talking cannons on ships mostly, or has the leap been made to flintlock guns and the like? And if it exists, how widespread is it? I imagine there Will be a large difference in technology depending on where we are, what kingdoms etc. But still.

I mainly ask because whether or not flintlock guns are a thing and common enough to outfit a ship, and even more so importantly with cannons, or if we’re talking ballistas and hired mages, would make a large difference in how ships are built and how naval warfare and the like would be fought. Worth knowing for a sailor, I’d say.

Re: OOC1:
I get the impression that bows and crossbows are still the prevalent missile weapons for personal use, but it hasn't really come up yet. Nor has larger weapons like cannons and siege weapon, so I'll let the GM answer that (or leave it open to fill in later).

Re: OOC1:
Bows and crossbows, hmm? Well, that would mean any ship ordnance made would be ballistas att the front and back of a ship, maybe switched out with small catapults on war ships...

Good to know. That probably means sea routes mostly planned in large curves around sea beast territories. Cannons would make it feasible to sometimes sail through, as they could likely scare of most non-starving or uber-territorial monsters with the sheer noise and potential pain. But with ballistas and catapults not even being a certainty on all ships, it would hardly be worth the risk.

It will, however, make it much more interesting for us when the group’s ship invariably ends up in the middle of kraken waters or the like. Because we all know it’ll happen at some point :p

Ilura scans the horizon for any sign of monsters and a kraken pops out of each of her eyeballs to attack the ship. What do you do?

I think we will say it is mostly bows and crossbows, with maybe the occasional magical cannon. They are definitely not the norm though. There may also be magical gun-like objects strewn about the world, but they would be rare to come across.

Alright, thanks for the quick clarification. Oh, and please don’t change any thoughts you had on whether such things exist or not because I asked. It was not a Veiled attempt at getting guns into the game, just purely curiousity, since those tools have such a Big impact in how the whole naval world functions.

And you’re most welcome. My local gaming friends and I actually have an in-group joke about such things. Basically, every time someone says things like “what are the odds of that happening”, “Well, at least it can’t get any worse”, etc, the chance of bad stuffTM Happening rises with a flat 40%. And it doesn’t stop at a 100% either, it just keeps stacking shit on shit.
Sometimes when a game is going too well, we’ll get bored and start saying stuff like that. Just daring Murphy to bring the hammer Down on us...
He usually delivers pretty quickly.

And I’m sure it won’t be. I’m sure there won’t be a need for any sea monsters to keep you on your toes.

... I mean, what are the odds of that happening, right?  >:)

And conversely, if I can touch it I can most likely kill it. :P

Honestly, if I see another sea-based monster after the fish zombies and the sea witches and the pelicans, I will send it back to the depths where it belongs. Word's still out on whether our local triton and shapeshifters will leave poor Eryn traumatized from all the fish stink. :)

I don't know if sea monsters will be the main issue. We are on board a ship half filled with mutinous crew-members in the middle of a storm.

Not sure that touching this one would be a great idea, actually...

I'm pretty sure no one's going to consider mutiny until we're through the storm.  Presuming we get through the storm :)

I'll give Eryn and Marcus another day or so, then I'll move the plot forward. Don't worry Lan, it shouldn't be much longer before you make an appearance.

Also, I am getting a warning that says, "This thread is nearing the 1,000 post limit.  If possible, you should start a new thread." So I guess I will do that too.
