Re: OOC1:

My backstory/normal life involves being a sell-sword who protects travelers and businesses in exchange for money, so there could very well have been a chance with Mouse meeting in the past if he happened to be running security checks in the same area. Of the two bonds there I imagine "stole something from" is more likely than "running a con with".

Re: OOC1:

100GP is noteable, but I don't think being offered payment counts as "looting", so agree w/ Eryn.  2 XP for all!

In terms of bonds:
  • Hiran does not understand life in the wild, so I will teach him
  • Eryn seeks magic too, but down a darker path.  I must guide her to protect her soul
  • Rirrik is a friend of nature, so I will be their friend as well.
  • Marcus sacrifices too much of himself.  He needs someone to watch over him too.

Not sure Hiran's had much chance to show his capabilities in the wild yet.  And I'm not sure about Eryn's magical path.  Marcus may well be about to sacrifice himself to save the fisherman.  So I think only Rirrik's will resolve.

As for new bonds, Rirrik's probably makes sense for me to switch over to Scarlet - once I know she's not a demon-witch-spirit...

"The spirits spoke to me of a great danger that follows Ilura." - that sounds fine to me.

Ilura's a pretty straight arrow.  If she's part of a con, she doesn't know it.  She might well have been the victim of a theft - though that seems like a reason to stay hidden behind the crates rather than comming out... :>

Perhaps "Ilura has my back when things go wrong." or "Ilura knows incriminating details about me."?

Cool. I'll put Eryn down for "Stole something from". Anyone want to run a con? Because I think it's a bit early to be certain someone's got Mouse's back.

Re: OOC1:

Not necessarily early if the characters have interacted previously (which would be the assumption of having a con running too).

Though that does raise the question of how does one "resolve" a bond of having your back?  By clearly no longer having it?...

Re: OOC1:

Yeah, the thief's bonds are thematically appropriate but kind of tricky to resolve. Like how do I resolve "I stole things from you?" You can't un-steal items. I guess you could give them back but where's the fun in that? And sometimes it's impossible. Like say Mouse stole bread from Eryn to eat. I don't think Eryn would want that bread back after Mouse has eaten it. And definitely not after some time has passed.

What did you steal? Do you still have it? Does Eryn know you stole it?  Eryn, are you still upset about it?

You two can work together to answer these. I think it will help strengthen the connection the bond provides.

1. Dunno. Something valuable? Maybe a great big gem?
2. Nope. Sold it. Spent the cash. Poof, all gone.
3. I think so? Maybe there was a chase scene across rooftops because that sounds like dangerous fun?

Resolution for stealing might be that there's forgiveness and/or an appology so that it's no longer an issue.

Re: OOC1:

Thoughts:

1) It could have been a lockbox found among a sack of letters and parcels in a mail caravan. Eryn and a few other mercenaries had been escorting it along its route and were about to part ways. Eryn herself had wrapped up some money and trinkets to send home to her family when the lockbox was spirited away by Mouse's hands. After a brief search managed to find him, but he slipped away.

2) It could have been a personal effect, lost at an inn or other stopping place. Mouse did not think anyone would be up and about at that time of night, but recent events had left Eryn restless. The resulting nighttime ruckus woke every other tenant and the resulting confusion about who was doing what gave ample opportunity for him to run off with the goods.

3) Maybe everyone were minding their own business when Mouse nicked some personal effects off whoever he passed in a busy market place crowd. The coin pouch wasn't much of a loss total, but the feeling of being pickpocketed so easily as a professional sell-sword was rather humiliating.

In either case, Eryn has been waiting to see the halfling again. She's not upset per se, just absolutely livid yearning to maybe get it repaid or figure out why he would be acting as such filthy scum of society making ends meet through lowly crime.

Resolving a bond means that what it describes has either happened ("I don't trust X" --> X betrays me), changed fundamentally (X regains my trust somehow) or it is no longer relevant (X leaves the group). When it comes to theft, it could be resolved by repaying the debt, being forgiven the crime, being put on trial for the crime, stealing something else with the former victim's help, showing how thief skills and experience can be used to help the team, and so on.

Suggestions for reciprocal bonds between me and the new characters:
* Mouse seems irresponsible, but I must not take the easy path just because he does.
* A thief he may be, but there is still honor in Mouse, I'm sure of it.
* Have I missed the mystic arts of the wild? Maybe Skarlet may teach me things that Hiran never knew.
* The wilds are rough and uncouth, I doubt Skarlet understands the importance of civilization.

I will mark 2 XP for End of Session, and 1 for the bond with Hiran. I'll leave my bonds with Hiran and Marcus as they are in the event that they return later. I've also removed the water-breathing ring from my inventory since Hiran said he wanted to keep it.

Re: OOC1:

Pickpocketing Eryn sounds like a plan.

Sidenote though, Mouse is nonbinary and uses they/them/their pronouns. They will have a giggle then a long suffering sigh for people using other pronouns for them after it's been mentioned in character.

I'm going to let you guys converse a bit more and continue to interact before I post again.  So don't wait on me.

Oh, and for the new players, I allow everyone to have up to 6 bonds, so feel free to make some more if you would like.  And don't forget to add 2XP for the End of Session that happened right as you showed up.

We'll say Mouse pickpocketed Eryn at some point, then.

How do you guys feel about the bonds I suggested? I'm thinking I should make one with each of you, maybe two. I only have one active bond left now that Hiran and Marcus went on hiatus.

Re: OOC1:

Mouse could be employed to find/liberate animals captured for poaching/entertainment? But other than that or being employed to find reagents I'm not sure of a reason for Skarlet to know Mouse.

@ Ilura - Sounds like a plan! Mouse definitely doesn't understand life in the wild.

@ GM - what time would you say it is now in game?

Re: OOC1:

Mouse, have you decided what bond you want with me?  You could have stolen something from me.  I might have witnessed you steal something from someone else.  I might have helped you at some point in a manner that had nothing to do with theft entirely (at least to my knowledge :>)
