Re: OOC1:

Hi, I had to throw together a holiday plan earlier to fit my vacation days. Went to see part of my family this weekend and will be visiting the other half during Christmas week. I'll try to do a post tomorrow for starters, but right now I'm on mobile ln a bus ride and it takes ages to type. :P

Re: OOC1:

Welcome back! I look forward to getting the adventure underway again. I will let Ilura and Eryn continue their discussion for the time being, since there doesn't seem to be any need for GM info right now. (If you do need info from me, let me know.)

I will put a Characters Wanted notice up in the next day or two and try to get us a few more players.

Alright, we should hopefully be getting some new characters by next week. I put up the Characters Wanted notice for this game (as well as notices for two other Dungeon World-based games too, if you are interested).

A wild paladin appeared!

Heya folks. I'm back. And with a very cool looking arm to boot to show for my absence. We need to hammer out the details on how Marcus spent the hours he was away, but it probably involved a crisis of faith and some divine sign that got him back sooner rather than later.

Re: OOC1:

Hey all it's me (formerly the gnoll bard Rirrik). I'm back from a long hiatus with a new character. Sybilla is a Triton (ala the 5e race, think merfolk with legs) Arcane Duelist who is essentially a magical swashbuckler. I hope to get back in the swing of things soon. Perhaps Marcus found her and let her in on the sort of jobs that could be had on the ship?

Re: OOC1:

Or perhaps Sybilla came with a message from the gods (or elsewhere) that got Marcus's head on straight and turned him back towards the ship that he should never have left.  (In Ilura's very humble opinion ;>)

Super happy that your life has returned to a degree of sanity as well.  Hooray for 2019!

We might transfer the leaky doorknob to you (given that you drip anyhow... :>)

Perhaps, maybe she didn't even know she was bringing a message to him but something she did was an answer to his seeking guidance  from the gods. Thanks for that, 2019 has to be better.

Could someone give me the condensed version of what's been up since I left? I'm trying to read a bit of the backlog today but that's alot of info to try to pack in and remember.

Re: OOC1:

After the kids were rescued from the cave (and two dwarven children went with the sea witch to get trained), the kids were all brought to an orphanage in Markhain. Rirrik stayed with them to make sure they all got settled in. Then the party all split up to get supplies and do other stuff. Hiran figured out what the magic items did that were found in the cave. Eryn had a scuffle with a troop of underhanded entertainers. Marcus found a secret society called NECRO that wanted to help the party take down the Overlord, and they gave him a few items. He also met a homeless man, Bolen, who's arm was cursed by the black sand curse. Ilura went with some wolf-raising people to look into a ritual they wanted her to help with when the two moons eclipsed each other that night. Eventually the party all met back up at the wolf-clan's rundown headquarters. They fought off some dark ghosts, a tar demon that Hiran manged to bind into his spellbook, then performed a few rituals. Ilura gained the ability to see in the dark and Hiran gained a shout ability, and they learned that they could defeat the Overlord for good if they threw his soul into the god of greed's void.

Marcus then sought out a cure for Bolen's arm, which led them to the docks, and to a specific ship's captain. Captain Frost, who is half ice elemental and has icy powers. When they approached the ship, a giant they had imprisoned in the bowels of the ship managed to escape and caused havoc to the ship. The party took it down eventually, and as thanks, Frost has agreed to bring the party across the sea, since the ship's next destination is pretty close to where the party needed to go.

However, because large parts of the ship were broken, Eryn and Ilura saw on the captain's desk that she had sighned a Devil's Bargain contract with the overlord's brother. The giants (and other bodies) were being delivered to him, for what could only be assumed to be nefarious purposes. Captain Frost doesn't know the party knows this, and the party has been making arrangements to help one of Frost's officers stage a mutiny. Potentially. They are still working out what exactly they are going to do.

The morning after the ship battle with the giant, Eryn and Ilura went to collect supplies. They had a run-in with a giant pelican and a swarm of smaller pelicans, but defeated them. Then they went back to the ship to find that Marcus and Hiran needed to leave. Hiran needed to deal with the demon bound in his spellbook. Marcus had tried to help heal Bolen with the aid of Captain Frost, but it din't go as planned. They left most of the magic items for the rest of the party though.

Down a few people, Ilura, Eryn, their new friend Mouse, and a hireling Westley managed to drum up some new hirelings to help out. A fairy godmother, a tiny gargoyle, and a man with snakes. (I'll list their info below.) They are now on their way back to the ship, which is due to leave harbor at sundown. But there is a storm rolling in, which may complicate things.

I think that is about it. If I missed anything important, feel free to point it out. If there are any questions, don't be afraid to ask.

Re: OOC1:

I went ahead and added Marcus and Sybilla into the narrative already. I haven't received any RtJs for new players to this game yet, unfortunately. If I do end up getting an RtJ or two, I'm sure I can find another way to bring in new characters too.

I'm not opposed to Marcus knowing Sybilla from before, but I'd appreciate a bit or two of her backstory before weaving something into it.

P.S. was there time for Marcus to level up?

Re: OOC1:

Shooting a PM to you Marcus with what I have so far. Mainly she's escaping her people who are going to war and (might) be being used unknowingly by the Overlord. She's been doing ship jobs and dodging law where she needs to. She's a showy swashbuckler who is kind of selfish in a jack sparrow sort of way.

Re: OOC1:

Marcus's arm was fine, he managed to wash off the curse in the wolf's den (yay for paladins). He tried to deal with Bolen's curse now, which might have worked, but that got the shards on Marcus.

Also it's good to be back. I missed RPing terribly. And you fine folks as well!

Re: OOC1:

In terms of bonds w/ Sybilla, not sure it's likely that Ilura would have met her before.

What do you think of "Sybilla must know a great deal of the sea.  I would learn from her"?  (Ilura has a shiny new magic item that lets her transform into sea-affiliated creatures and is interested in taking advantage of it - but she'd also prefer not to get eaten or do something dumb...

Re: OOC1:

My suggestions for a bond with our new crew member:

  • Sybilla's tales of past derring-do make me jealous of her greater freedom in life.
  • When Sybilla overestimates her abilities, I will be there to take the hit.
  • I wonder if Sybilla's scales are wet all the time? I must find out if tritons sleep in a bathtub.

Thoughts?

Love the interest in life habits of Tritons :D

I'm still thinking of one, probably something to do with showing her that doing the right thing is the way to go.

Good thinking on not getting eaten, Ilura.

Re: OOC1:

Hello all, Mithralan the druid here, but most people just call me Lan ;D

I look forward to rp'ing with ya'll.

(And yes, I know that the first thought at the sight of my profile pic is halfling, rather than elf, but it was the pointy eared picture that I felt most captured how I imagine Lan. Scruffy, relaxed and much more hairy than most elves. He's a sailor first and an elf second, after all.)

AS for bonds, are we sure we wanna get those nailed down before even meeting IC?  wouldn't it be more organic to play a little while, and then see how we end up fitting together and make bonds from that?
That aside, the one character I could easily imagine Lan knowing beforehand would be Sybilla, what with both of them being sailors. Maybe they've served on the same ship at some point, or maybe they've met more than once in assorted port taverns. Whether those meeting ended mostly in pints together or brawls, or a mix of the two is up for debate :P

Re: OOC1:

Welcome.  I look forward to poking life in the other eye with you :)

Initial bonds can help provide justification for IC-acceptance into the group/why you'd even want to hang around with us.  But totally fine to add them later.
