Character Creation
This thread is for the discussion of the characters of our players that will inhabit our city and take part in the adventures we will tell together.

As mentioned in the advertisement, my intent is that this game will be a "Chest Deep" game, but if we decide together that we want something different, that is up for discussion.

(I assume by you ooc post, you want this here now)

Name: Malcolm Rook
Template: Minor Talent (?) (Not sure what would work best)
High Concept: Bad-Ass Hunter of the Supernatural
Trouble: If your family kills enough supernatural creatures, they start to come after you.
At least one additional aspect: Inheritor of the Family Business

Template might change.  Loosely based of Sam/Dean from Supernatural and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Malcolm, yes, I think we are ready for this now.  Thanks for posting.

If your character is modeled on Sam / Dean, then I would lean toward those characters being Pure Mortals (at first at least.)  Hunters in the Supernatural world for those most part just seemed to be highly trained and motivated individuals.  Sam may have started as Emissary of Power, and not in a good way.

If you are modeling based on Buffy, then I would best model her as an Emissary of Power as well.  Her powers would likely be Inhuman Strength and Speed with some combination of Inhuman Toughness and Recovery, although I am unsure of what Catch to put on them.  Anyone have any ideas of what might work?

I would recommend those powers if you want to go Emissary.  Otherwise, go Pure Mortal with that concept and take a bunch of nice stunts.

Andrew, thanks for posting.

One quick issue, if you are going to have a power (e.g. Psychometry) then you aren't a Pure Mortal.  You would be a Minor Talent.

In reply to Game Master (msg # 5):

Thanks, I sort of picked that up from Malcolms post.

I think, I am going to lean towards the Buffy with-out becoming a Slayer.  I was also thinking that maybe he had an item of power (like the Knights of the Cross) that conveys some abilities while coupling them with some stunts.  Thoughts?

Malcolm:

So a family of imbued hunters, like Grimm.  That works.  If you want to work an item of power into the character, I am cool with that as well.  Do you have an idea for an item of power from myth or legend that you would like to hold, or something of your own construction?

I have no idea about an item.  I am just brainstorming.  I have heard of Grimm but I am not familiar with them at all (I caught a couple commercials on TV).  Would a family of imbued hunters still be considered Emissary or something else?

Man, I wish I had my books at work.

I'm considering the child of a human and a bigfoot, but I haven't actually read any of the short stories where bigfoot shows up (I've requested the collection of them from the library). Has anyone read them? Do you know what bigfoot's powers or weaknesses are?

Uuuhh..... they are pretty impressive.  Physical and magical.  Without giving away any spoilers...all three stories have to do with Harry and the kid of a bigfoot at three different times in his life.  I'd tell you my impression of the kid but....spoilers.

My wife found them on audio for free somewhere and we listened to them on our phone (which was jacked into the car's audio) on a road trip.  It only took about three hours to get through all of them.

Malcolm:

A family of hunters could all be emissaries, with powers passed down through the lineage.

Alternately, your family could have the blood of an ancient power. You would be a scion or changeling if that was fey blood.

As a possible concept, you could be the direct descendent of Beowulf and an emissary of Woden, the mantle being passed down in your family through the generations.  Along with mantle of power the family member also receives Hrunting, Beowulf’s sword.

Just an idea.

Found the audiobook. Very impressive. No obvious Catch to the Toughness or Recovery powers. I'm not going to be able to afford a first generation sasquatch scion at Chest Deep.
