THE OLD HOUSE

The Old House on Widow's Hill. It's more than five minutes' walk from Collinwood, but definitely not as long a walk as is Eagle Hill Cemetery.

It looks pretty run-down, although certainly still very solid and sound from an architectural point of view.

THE OLD HOUSE

Harry arrives at the Old House around mid-afternoon, her walk from the cemetery an uneventful one. She makes her way around the side of the abandoned mansion to the servants' entrance, which opens onto a cloakroom beside the kitchen. Although not locked, both door and frame have warped due to years of neglect and must be forced apart. Harry takes hold of the door-handle, presses her shoulder against the door, and attempts to ease the door open gradually and quietly.

CRASH!

From somewhere inside the house (maybe two or three rooms away) comes a young female voice: "Josette?!" And then some quiet mumbling (or so it sounds from where you are now).

Harry curses under her breath. Clumsy cow! No chance to learn what the girl is up to, now. Angry at herself, she calls out. "Not Josette. Your gran has folk out looking for you," Harry says in a loud voice. "You'd best run on home, if you don't want a switching."

The girl says something else you don't hear, then: "...Who is this speaking, please...?" She sounds slightly farther away now than before.

"Don't damn well matter who's speaking. Your gran's worried, and wants you back home," Harry growls peevishly. "Ain't coming in there to play hide-and-seek with you, girl. Get on home now." She slams the door shut, makes her way to the tree-line, and conceals herself along the path to Collinwood.

In reply to Harriet MacLeod (aka 'Harry') (msg # 6):

The instant you start watching, a girl of about 8, maybe 9 years of age leaves by the front door of the Old House, closes it behind her, and starts walking toward Collinwood. She's not running, but she's not exactly taking her time, either... she walks in a fairly motivated way.

Harry gives the girl a generous lead, then follows her discreetly back to Collinwood.
