THE WOODS

Harry started out with her usual hurried stride, but soon realized her natural pace was almost twice what the other two could manage on their best day...

THE WOODS

The Professor sits down on a fallen tree to catch his breath.

"I wonder whether Abigail Collins will know anything," he thinks out loud. "I'm not sure just whose voice was it exactly we heard during the seance. A ghost's? A living person's from this house, through time and space?

"Either way, we need to be careful, and come up with a plan... How will we behave?"

THE WOODS

The Doctor places his bag on the tree next to the older man, but remains standing for now. The narcotics taken earlier have turned the usual gnarl of pain into a dull ache. Uncomfortable, but manageable. From experience, he also knew that if he were to sit down, there is a chance he wouldn't be getting up again any time soon. The sudden shock to his system during the transition had been hard enough on his leg, and if he allowed it to rest for too long, the joint may cramp and seize.

Answering the Professor, "I will follow the lead from either of you. History in general is not my strong suit beyond the basic literature. Specific history about the Collins' even less so. You both seem to think that we have actually travelled through time. As much as I am loathe to believe such a thing, the evidence on face value supports it. The both of you seem to have some idea of what is happening, and whom is orchestrating it, and I would kindly ask you to explain to me please what is happening."

THE WOODS

Harry pulls a small round tin from her back pocket, removes the lid, and stuffs a plug of something green between her cheek and gum. "No clue what's happening, other than we ain't when we're supposed to be and old Mrs. Collins is to blame." She produces a large sailor's knife from beneath her squall jacket, leans against a tree, and begins cleaning under her fingernails. "What'd she offer you to sit in on that séance? She sold me a tale of sunken treasure, jewels for Abigail Collins from some rogue seaman who fancied her."

THE WOODS

"Actually, I was there exactly for the reason that she had stated. I was contacted earlier today... er, that day? And my services as a medical doctor were requested. To sit and observe the other participants and render aid if and when required. For what it is worth, I still aim to do precisely that. Oh, that reminds me..."

Pausing his answer briefly, he retrieves his thermometer and notebook from his bag. Placing the mercury bulb back in his mouth, his voice is slightly garbled as he talks past it,

"So she offered you what, a lost treasure at sea? Please do not misunderstand me and take offence, I appreciate a mercantile attitude. I am merely trying to piece together everything leading up to the now. And how about you sir?", he addressed the gentleman seated on the log, "Forgive me, but I was not told your names before taking my seat at the table at the last minute. Mis...", McKenzie choked back the Miss that he had almost made the mistake of uttering. After seeing her assault upon Loomis, he felt such a mistake might have been deadly. Attempting to cover the slip, he made a brief show of reading his temperature and noting it and the time down in his notebook before continuing,

"Harry stated her name back in the foyer, but I do not yet know yours. Forgive me if I am incorrect, but I assume that unlike myself you were an actual guest to the seance and not the 'hired help' as it were. If that is true, and if there is a pattern, what if anything were you offered to partake in the seance?"

"Initially, it was me who sought her out. I'm a historian, researching genealogy, and the Collins family has a prominent lineage. I was promised access to some information regarding their intriguing past. Usually I work with crumbling manuscripts. This time I got more than I bargained for, it seems."

Harry spits to one side. "Collinsport folk are queer. Superstitious," she tells the others. "Witch-hunts well into the last century." Her knife vanishes again beneath her squall jacket. "Don't get yourselves hung or burned."
