THE "OLD" HOUSE: DINING ROOM

By the time Aerik Martinson entered the dining room for breakfast, the only occupant was Hannah Collins, and she was just finishing up her meal.

Hannah was 19 years old... Aerik's understanding was that the girl was now too old for a tutor, yet still young enough that her father somehow hadn't married her off yet. Mostly, she seemed bored, and the light of sharp intelligence in her eye explained why. She didn't seem interested in hurrying up and getting married, yet was also uninterested in just hanging around the house day in and day out, either... but nothing else presented itself to her as being interesting... so it wasn't surprising she elected to engage Aerik in conversation.

"Hello, Mr. Martinson," she said, making and keeping eye contact in a way that wordlessly said perhaps you can entertain me.

THE "OLD" HOUSE: DINING ROOM

In reply to They (msg # 1):

Smiling and bowing slightly, Aerik met Hannah's gaze, but didn't keep eye contact for too long so as not to run the risk of offending the young lady.  Good morning Miss Collins, are we the only ones dining this morning? Not that I object to the chance to dine with a fine young lady, such as yourself.  I must admit that the morning sun pales in comparison to the sheer beauty of your golden locks.

Reaching behind his back with his right hand, he attempts a little "sleight of hand" to conjure a pink rose.  Belatedly he remembers that he had left his trick flowers in the room, he had not thought that he would be performing at this time, either stage magic or music.

Hannah smiles at the complement. "...What's in that small box you're carrying, Mr. Martinson?" she asks.

In reply to Hannah Collins (msg # 3):

Holding the carved box forward, Aerik showed Hannah the intricate carvings and small latch that kept it shut. This is a way to gain insite into your deeper self, to understand what motivates yourself.  And occasionally to glimpse the possible future.

Opening the box on the table, Aerik shows her the cards.

Hannah is immediately fascinated. "Tell the future! Let's tell the future! Will you read them for that purpose for me now...?!"

She pauses. "Oh... I suppose I should let you eat your breakfast, I apologize... but perhaps after your breakfast? Later this morning, perhaps...?"

Most definitely after we eat. It is not a long process but does require a little space.  If you would ponder a question while we eat, but don't tell me what it is as yet..., opening the box, Aerik carefully removes the cards, setting them face down, we can see what the future holds.

"Well I had just about finished eating, and even if I hadn't, I don't know if I could eat another bite, I'm so excited... Oh! I've thought of a question, I think... I'll keep thinking about it while you eat, in case I think of something better..."

In reply to Hannah Collins (msg # 7):

As Aerik sits down to eat, a single card falls out of the box, landing face up. The Fool, he muses, a traveler will arrive, someone of knowledge or seeking knowledge.  One that doesn't always see what lies ahead.

Interesting, he thought to himself, I was sure that card was in the center of the deck.

Hannah fails to notice the Fool card falling from the box.

In reply to They (msg # 9):

You become aware of someone shouting near the front of the house.

"My," says Hannah, "sounds like Daddy's really upset... I wonder if someone's given him an unexpected bill or something..."

She sounds like she's tempted to go see what it's all about, but hates to let you out of her sight, so much is she looking forward to the prospect of a tarot reading.
