Re: OOC
I've got proficiency with all land vehicles, so I'll be driving the wagon. Everyone else?

Re: OOC
I'll probably be scouting ahead of the wagon by sixty feet in full stealth and perceptive mode.

Things I assume that the group would have noticed about Jacob in the few days that they have been traveling together.

- During his time on watch, Jacob will strum a calming tune on his lyre while the others sleep.

- He sleeps with a hand on a dagger.

- He never talks about his past or what his current goals are.

Re: OOC
Just a note - I'm trying the whole group initiative thing because I've seen other DMs use it before and it seems to lend itself well to PbP. If it gets problematic for any reason we can switch to doing it the old-fashioned way. :)

Sorry if my posts are too short. Hard to tell how long one is when typing it out on my phone.

Hope I did the crit right

Re: OOC
No, you're fine. :) And yeah, that was a pretty great crit - technically speaking you killed that goblin twice over.

Also, I just realized that I derped and didn't wait for Edea's turn before the goblins got theirs - I'm sorry! Call it first time jitters. D: I'll make sure it doesn't happen again.

Re: OOC
Just a point of order and itís not a big deal.   Nim was standing on the wagon so itís unlikely that a goblin could have gotten to him and attacked all in one round especially if they started 30 feet away.  Nim will roll with it.

Re: OOC
For a second, I thought the Dice Roller was glitched for me as it rolled me another natural 20 on an attack, but after doing a secondary test roll that offered up a 7 I think it might just be balancing out my bad karma on previous rolls in other games.

@Nim: Are you saying that the goblin was 30 ft away or more than 30 ft away? If it is the former, then the goblin could make it to the cart and attack you in one turn with its movement speed of 30.

Re: OOC
Perhaps that is true though in my vision of the cart itís large enough to impede a short little goblin.  Also our Paladin has interposed himself between the goblins and the cart his flavor and polearms master feat would likely give him an attack on one or the other goblin.  I donít honestly care that I got hit Iím just putting these things out there for our new gm to do with as he wishes.

Donít stress about it.  There is a lot to remember/interpret.  Itís tough to remember those things without a battle map which...  well thatís next level for play by post.

If it is okay with everyone else, then I am cool with assuming that Jacob is acting scout.

Just wanted to check in since the IC thread kind of died. Is it just general life stuff in the way or is there some point of confusion I could help with?

Re: OOC
I'm having trouble posting as it's my first D&D game.  I'm not sure what to make of Alignment as I'm thinking my monk wouldn't be likely to follow after the goblins.  Defend herself or another from their attack, sure.  Go after goblins and attack them after the fact, not so much.

But it's supposed to be "don't split the party," right?"  This is one of those things where everyone's here for their own reasons, but I don't know what's expected for the game.

That's a good point. Hmm. Would the rest of you guys mind weighing in? I have a suggestion or two but I don't want you to feel obligated to go one way or the other.

Re: OOC
Personally, I am just trying to make sure that I give everyone chance to post.

As far as alignments go, I view them as sort of a rough guideline for my actions like the code in Pirates of the Caribbean, so one's actions can sway out of it every once in a while.

If you need suggestions on how to rationalize going after the goblins, then perhaps viewing it less like an attack and more of a rescue mission, or if you are of a more self inclined type alignment then save them so we can get paid.

Not sure if any of that helped.

Re: OOC
Exactly my thinking. Your monk is not coming along to attack the goblins, but to attempt to rescue these poor kidnapped men.

Re: OOC
Yup just play your character.  If you donít want to come along then just say so.  Honestly, Nim is a bit impetuous...  not that anyone would notice hat ever.  It doesnít mean he canít be convinced of other things.

Also I agree with Luin. Itís about rescuing people not murderig goblins.

Re: OOC
Personally, I rarely even pay attention to alignment, or just slap "Chaotic Neutral" on all of my characters so that they have the freedom to float any way the currents lead them. I don't necessarily recommend this, but hey. Every person has a different playstyle and stance when it comes to alignment. Some are sticklers to it, some, not so much.

I agree with everyone else though, there is usually more than one way to look at a situation. Your monk can come along to see if the two NPCs are still alive, and simply nope out if something does not click with her.

I can somewhat relate to the "my character wouldn't do this". I am playing Mylde in a way that she will avoid combat when she can, and she will not attack something just because of its reputation (like the goblins). But, she will go along with the chase as long as she thinks that there may be people to save, and if she finds the goblins have murdered them or something to that extent, she'll stop having reservations (for this one group of goblins at least).

Re: OOC
I'll just throw in that if you really don't want to follow the trail, Edea, I wouldn't mind splitting you off. Maybe you finish the supply run and check out Phandalin while the other four gallivant off. They should still be strong enough to avoid a TPK.

The only downside would be that you'd miss out on XP and you'd potentially have some downtime while you wait for the rest of the party to catch up.

I'll leave it up to you. :)

Hey guys! My apologies for dropping out for a couple days there - I've been sick and wandering around like a zombie for the last week. Give me half a second to catch up and we'll get this show back on the road. :)

@IC thread: I guess the goblin could still fail its check, 7 is not the end of the world, but seeing the natural 1 made me jump the gun with my description, heh.

Re: OOC
Think I burned my luck out with the dice roller, and just in case it isn't clear Jacob stayed within melee range with the goblin so he didn't provoke an Attack of Opportunity.
