IC Oiroh: Introduction

Introducing Oiroh

Location: Main road near the center of the island.
Time of day: Late afternoon/evening.

This is the introduction topic for Oiroh, a Ta-Matoran blacksmith. We will find a starting point for him and have him join the rest of the characters ASAP.

Welcome to the game!

For the record, colored text at the bottom of posts is out-of-character knowledge.

IC Oiroh: Introduction

It was a fairly normal day on Rangi Motu. The blacksmith Oiroh found himself traveling eastwards on the main road stretching across the length of the island, headed for the distant coast where Ta-Matoran like himself made their home. The volcanic forges there would serve his craft well.

A skywards glance gave some reason to worry, however, for dark thunderclouds were rapidly approaching the shoreline. To avoid the worst of the heavy rain and whipping wind meant turning north to take the sheltered path between the mountain passes.

Oiroh was just passing the crossroads when he suddenly felt more than heard a strange, whispering voice.

Greetings, traveler. I bring this warning: the roads are treacherous these days. Traveling alone is not wise for someone bearing such potential as you. There are others like you gathering at the island's temple. Go there and meet with them. The island's safety depends on it.

Forgive me for not speaking longer, but my power is limited and I still need to do my own part.

Then there was silence.

A few minutes passed, and the rainfall over the ocean crept ever closer, but just as it seemed inevitable that the storm would begin in earnest, Orioh witnessed a ripple of energy pulse upwards from an unseen location ahead.

The pulse caused the skies to split. Clouds swirled unnaturally and diverted their course away from the island, taking a wide path around it. The weather remained calm, even as the ocean frothed and thunder rumbled in the distance.

The road ahead was worn flat by constant travel and therefore easy to follow. It would carry Orioh towards his destination.

You have been called to adventure. What do you do?

* Some voice called out to you in your head, telling you of the temple and other Matoran there.
* You just witnessed a strange and unnatural weather phenomenon.
* You have an Ussal Crab mount, if you wish to make us of one.

In reply to Game Master (msg # 2):

"Interesting..." he thought.
"Well I won't need to be at the forge for a wile sooo... let's listen to that strange voice" Oiroh said speaking to himself like always. "With my ussal I'll be at the temple in no time".
The ta-matoran jumped onto his ussal crab and started to make his way to the temple.

IC Oiroh: Introduction

In the late evening hour, as he rode through a valley near the foot of the island's big glacier, Orioh passed a hewed stone wall with a gate in the center. It was mostly a decorative structure, guiding wanderers to the temple grounds.

Some distance down the valley road the sun crept beneath the horizon, and night fell. Luckily the Ta-Matoran was nearing the temple now, and already he could see the glimmer of a single lightstone not far ahead of him. A fellow traveler, then. Could it be one of the ones he had been told about?

Dark as it was, the light helped reveal the traditional colors of a Matoran of Stone and his beast of burden: a Mahi.

The ussal crab was easily fast enough to catch up to the stranger, should Orioh wish to do so.

What do you do?

* It is late, and the sun has set.
* A wandering Matoran is a short distance ahead of you.
* The temple is just beyond a bend in the road.

IC Oiroh: Introduction

"A traveller..." Oiroh said mumbling to himself. "I don't think he's one of the matoran that voice talked about" Oiroh continued blabbering." But just to make sure I'll take a closer look" The ta-matoran went closer to the po-matoran and tried to spot anything off about him.

Oiroh rolled 1 using 1d6 with rolls of 1.  Observing traveller.

IC Oiroh: Introduction

The Po-Matoran was lost in his own thoughts and didn't notice Oiroh or his crab approaching him from behind. He startled when the pair suddenly appeared out of the dark, all too close.

"Ah!" he yelped. The Mahi next to him recoiled so he had to restrain it. As soon as this was done the Matoran lifted the lightstone higher and peered curiously at Orioh through its light.

Now that the Po-Matoran was facing him, Orioh could tell that he was wearing an ornate Kanohi Calix with a strong copper hue. It looked newly minted and contrasted with the rest of his body, which was traditional brown and sand yellow. Little else could be inferred from the Matoran's appearance, especially with the lightstone drawing so much focus in the night.

"Didn't see you there," the traveler said, keeping a wary eye on Orioh. "This road has been awfully busy today, but I didn't expect someone sneaking up on me in the dark. Who are you?"

This is the second unlucky starting roll I've seen recently, heh. A 1 is a 'no, and' result, which means a negative thing happens. The Matoran is a bit wary of you.

According to my overview you just got post #1000 in this game, by the way. Thanks for helping it grow. :)

Oiroh stared akwardly at the traveller and then said "...Hi... I'm Oiroh, I..." The ta-matoran stopped to avoid saying something stupid and then resumed his talking "Well... I'm looking for a few matoran that I should be meeting at the temple. Have you seen them anywhere?" The ta-matoran didn't even wait for an answer "Anyway... nice mask ya got there, haven't seen such an ornate mask since that kanohi hau I made for a contest" said the blacsmith admiring the mask without even a mark left from forging.

"You have a keen eye. This is a Mask of Victory, rewarded for my feat of endurance. I consider it a great honor that I am allowed to bear it on this journey."

The Po-Matoran gestured ahead, down the road.

"Your companions passed me earlier and will already have arrived at the temple. It is where I am headed as well; will you walk with me?"

"Well... after years spent in a forge making masks and tools I can easily spot a quality one"the blacksmith bragged."and if both of us are headed to the temple there is no need to walk alone" said Oiroh while playing with his hammer. "But before we go you should tell me your name"

IC Oiroh: Introduction

"I am Poriko," the traveler said, walking alongside Orioh's ussal crab at a deliberate pace. "Some call me 'wayfarer'. I have dedicated myself to walking across the world, from the south to the north and back south again. This temple shall be one of my final stops before I return home."

***

Having traversed the majority of the valley, the two Matoran eventually arrived at a grand stone gate set in a narrower pass. The gate looked very much like the one they had gone through earlier, and beyond its open arch lay the temple grounds.

A handful of Matoran were visibly moving around in the open outdoor space, though the darkness obscured their appearance. These must be the others Orioh had been told about.

Feel free to continue the conversation on the final stretch of the path as you please. When you feel like meeting with the others at the temple, you may start posting in the topic named "IC 2: Treacherous Paths" (direct link to topic). A little bit up on the page (post #45 in the topic) is a description of what the temple looks like.

If you feel like being introduced instead, just ask and I'll have the Po-Matoran do so. :)
