Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
Millions of years ago, the planet Cybertron contained life, but not as we know it. It was once a gleaming gem of robotic civilization. However a hundred wars, factions, splits, and splinters rendered it a rusted shell of its former glory. The most recent of these wars- the galaxy-spanning conflict in which the Autobots waged their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons- came to a close in the Earth-year of 2007. For the first time in eons, life and energy grace the homeworld of the Transformers. And it is in the new, still-recovering Cybertron that our ragtag misfits have found their way to their briefing, on recently patched roads.

It was a busy day at the shipyards of the city of Altihex. Cybertronians ran back and forth, handing off data and supplies, as modifications were made to certain volunteers for the Exploration Fleet. This was one of the first parts of the exploration effort- retrofitting spaceworthy Cybertronians (and the occasional Junkion), providing energon stores for the voyage, and all sorts of other tedious infrastructure work. Amid the metallic structures of the still-under-repair shipyard, an oil tanker pulled up to a pump, which extended a long tube to pump out the liquid energon. A bulky green-and-yellow Transformer with rounded arms and legs gave a thumbs up before turning to address the gathered masses.

"Thanks, Octane. As for the rest of you, I suppose you know why you're here. The name's Cosmos, and for a few thousand megacycles I was the Autobot eye up in space. Well, with the most experience with space travel, I ended up heading up the Expeditionary Fleet. Now, this is mostly just a briefing on what your mission entails, likely planets, stuff like that."

The lights flicker for a moment, and Cosmos looks around. After a moment, he turns to one of the construction bots working at a large communications system.

"Hey, I thought we fixed the wiring?"

"Yeah, but it's been acting up like this all day. Must be a problem with the grid."

"Oh, wonderful. Well, anyway, with the discovery of the Junkions, we have realized we are not the only branch of Cybertronian life in the universe. Optimus Prime believes that contacting the others of our kind and letting them know that Cyberton is finally at peace is the best way forward for our race. Any questions from those present?"

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
Livewire simply stood fully erect as his ocular sensors focused upon Cosmos, another constructed for the purposes of voyaging the surly bounds of space. Livewire felt a kindred spark for those who were crafted for the purpose to go where no bot has gone before.

As the time came up for asking questions, Livewire began to speak while idly stroking at his alloy beard-like features. "My first instinct is to inquire would such activities violate the Non-Interaction Accord?" But Livewire continued after stopping stroking the beard. "But these are Cybertronian lifeforms, Optimus Prime has viewed this as the best option, and we are not providing them anything other than the knowledge that Cybertron is at peace. So instead of asking a question on this point I will just instead make a statement; I believe that we should monitor these lifeforms to see if they are properly civilized before informing them of the security of our homeworld."

"Though I still have a question. Are we to collect any planetary samples from sites where life may be found? This all I have to ask of."

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
Shatter had arrived a bit earlier than when she'd been instructed to, not so much for caution's sake as she wouldn't know how to inspect a ship as space-worthy anyway, but rather to satisfy some of her curiosity about the vessel she'd be spending so much time in. She similarly couldn't help but be curious about who her shipmates would be, but as the crew of expeditionaries gathered the once-Senatorial guard joined them. She didn't look for other femmes in the crew but she wouldn't be surprised either way; Shatter had spent so much time wandering the galaxy in search of a good fight that it'd stopped mattering who she was around as long as they could keep up with the chaos.

It felt a little weird to be talking about leaving Cybertron, the planet she'd fought for, spilt precious energon for, and yet... Shatter tilted her chin up and looked skyward; as good as having her home back felt she couldn't ignore how restless she'd been feeling. Sparring matches with old friends had only helped so much, and trying to stimulate herself into a stupor with energon or street drugs just seemed such a waste. When she'd heard word about this expedition, though, Shatter had perked up despite having ignored previous talks of setting out.

She'd not ever rubbed elbows with Cosmos, but she'd seen him and it was good enough for Shatter that he was a familiar mech leading the fleet's exploration. Similarly she was still quite unfamiliar with the Junkions she'd seen now and again, and as Cosmos spoke her yellow optics settled on one of the nearest alien children of Primus. Their builds were so chaotic, and she lacked enough experience with Junkions in general to have any idea what this one would transform to. Shatter, on the other hand, was obvious in her build: she was a slightly smaller than average 'bot with hover-bike kibble, all lank and streamlined in her root mode with sturdy plating in slate blue, accented here and there with grey dark grey paint and golden bio-lights that presently issued a subdued glow to match her relatively calm state.

The statement that Junkions should be monitored brought Shatter back around to the present; she still hadn't figured out what the Junkion's alt mode would be, but that didn't matter so much at the moment as she had instead began watching to see if any of the alien Cybertronians had taken umbrage. She didn't suppose it would amount to much if any of them did; who would start a fight when they were this out numbered? Well, she might, but she wasn't a Junkion even if she had decided that they were distant kin and therefore welcome on Cybertron. At least there weren't any of the weird yappy little meat-bags that Earth had introduced them to -- Shatter did not want one of those things running around, smearing their oils everywhere, and slowly decomposing.

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
Terrorclaw’s head hurts with all the words, some of them big ones.  He grimaces and concentrates on the green-and-yellow Cosmos.  Space.  Yes.  It will be good to fly away from Cybertron and hunt new prey. Terrorclaw has grown soft in this new era of peace among Cybertronians.  He needs new prey to stalk.

The former Predacon folds his powerful arms across his chest.    ”Could be others not so peaceful.  We fight them, maybe?”

He asks the question hopefully.  The war was over, and the Decepticons had lost.  That meant that the Autobots were stronger, and Terrorclaw had been happy to throw his lot in with the victors.  Now, however, he is starting to get bored with peace and building things and being nice.  He longs to hunt again, to hear the screams of his victims as they flee before him, to transform from his fast-flying hawk form to his tiger form and rip through metallic alloys, or maybe even organic flesh.  Yes, he hopes the lifeforms they find will not be so peaceful.  He hopes so very much.

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
Taking a break from the shuttle runs to fill up the cargo hold of the ship for the long journey Perihelion finds his way into the briefing chamber by what are likely large cargo doors intended for other uses of the room.  Rather than engage in the opening bids he simply waits and takes advantage of the opportunity to observe those who will soon be either crew members on the larger ship and or passengers of his own when smaller scale drop missions actually happen.

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
"If we're lucky," Shatter answered the mech, unsurprised that the Predacon would sound hopeful about a fight. It wasn't like she could really fault him -- she was itching for a fight, too. Maybe the big guy would be up to a little friendly sparring, at least if their ship was going to be big enough to support that kind of rough-housing.

"What will our policies be on hostiles?" Shatter turned her attention to Cosmos as she spoke, and though it took effort not to say 'cons,' Shatter wasn't really all that troubled by knowing that she was rubbing elbows with a few ex-Decepticons. She was, in fact, starting to look for familiar faces just in case she might have clashed with any of her new crew-mates. It'd be best to put that history behind them, if she could.

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
"A brutal way to die, but it's n-n-new and exciting!", chirped Rummage as he assisted the work crew in welding together a spare landing pod. Rummage enjoyed repair work- it was what had gotten him into the DJD despite his obvious lack of qualifications. With most of Cybertron's experienced medics returning to their old jobs in the wake of the war, pickings had been slim for the exploration division. As a result, the Junkion was something of a last-minute afterthought who hadn't yet managed to forge any ties with the crew.

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
"Yes, planetary samples are encouraged, the more we know about our counterparts the better."

The lights flicker again, and Cosmos looks over to some construction bots.

"Can you run check that out? This is the tenth time today."

The crew transforms and drives off as Cosmos tries to regain his train of thought. He turns to Terrorclaw and Shatter.

"Trust me, I know all about how things can go south when meeting new species. You're allowed to defend yourselves, but try not to be the agressors. First impressions are important."

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
"As long as these lifeforms have enough processing power to recognize the Universal Greeting, it is highly probable -I give it seventy two percent and forty eight hundreths out of a possible hundred percentage points, that we will not have to resort to aggression against our distant relatives." Livewire tapped against the side of his ocular sensors as he spoke to Cosmos.

Standing more rigidly he continued, "When we set forth I shall make sure to collect as many planetary samples as I am able, and of course as many as I can collect without disrupting the rotational processes of said planet."

Livewire knew the importance of data collection and he'd be damned if he wouldn't blast the planet up a lot to get all the necessary samples. After all he had missiles for a reason.

"If I may have another inquiry; when are we to travel to the reaches unknown and to where are we to first head in the search of possible Cybertronian life..."

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
Terrorclaw nods his head enthusiastically.  ”Yes, first time we meet others, they must see our strength!  They will respect us!”  The former Predacon is eager to meet these new beings, whoever they are.  They will see that the Cybertronians are worthy of respect.  He also dimly recognizes that his pack is not supposed to attack first, which dampens his enthusiasm slightly.

Maybe, he thinks hopefully, these new beings will not be so friendly.  Maybe they will fight back.  Yes, then Terrorclaw can hunt!  Then he can establish the strength of his tribe.  He smiles enthusiastically.  He has been sitting too long, resting in the peace of Cybertron’s new era.  Soon, he will be able to spread his wings and soar.  The thought fills his thought circuits with anticipation at the coming expedition.

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
Shatter's amusement hadn't waned, but the femme's expression sobered enough to show that she was taking Cosmos' seriously. "Understood, boss." She even folded a hand into that universal human gesture -- a thumb's up -- to accompany the comment. When the Predacon spoke her grin renewed and Shatter reached out to give the mech a sturdy but friendly clap on the arm. "There's strength in quiet, too. You're Terrorclaw, right?" She asked, waiting for his answer before introducing herself. "I'm Shatter."

She did glance over when the scientist spoke; she couldn't agree more about the Greeting even if she still did find it to be a little weird. Once word had spread about how useful it could be, though, it'd been a lifesaver a few times -- and had supplied far, far too much energon to her unit in one situation. That whole side mission still felt hazy in her memory banks, but it left the femme with a grin even so.

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
"Yes, you right.  Quiet very important sometimes." Terrorclaw smiles gleefully at the thrill of silently stalking his prey by air right before he dives down to rip its circuits to shreds.  He loves the thrill of the wind around him as he He looks with surprise when the other bot clasps him on his shoulder.  Is she challenging him to combat?  No, it seemed that she was only greeting him.  "Shatter," he says, repeating her name.  "Yes, I Terrorclaw.  Good to have your strength in our mission!"

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
The flickering lights briefly drew her attention from Terrorclaw, but she grinned up at the Predacon despite the distraction. "Glad to have yours too, buddy." She liked his enthusiasm, and thought that they'd probably make a pretty good duo when it came to open combat.

The lights hadn't kept her attention, but Cosmos' repeated requests for the repair team to check in did. Her golden optics seemed to thin and her humour slid to the back of her thoughts, as evidenced by the new sharpness to her grin when she spoke up to Cosmos. "Hey boss. You want some of us to go take a look? Just in case?"

"If you do not mind, allow me to attempt to establish a proper contact. I notice you have had some difficulty in receiving potential feedback..." Livewire tapped against the right side of his head as he began to focus. After all proper communications needed a steady signal.

"Attention Repair Crew Workers; Attention. I, the Cybertronian Fleet Scientist Livewire, am in the process of establishing a proper frequency for contact. If you are able to catch this signal, respond as soon as possible and update me on the status of your progress and of your own chassis."

With that said the scientist waited to see how his attempt to establish proper communications had fared.

Cosmos shrugs at Shatter's suggestion.

"I don't think that'll be necessary, it's probably just a software gli-"

However, Livewire receives a return transmission from a panicked bot- spliced with the sounds of gunfire and electronic screeching.

"MAYDAY MAYDAY! WE'VE BEEN AMBUSHED! THEY'RE COMING OUT OF THE ~BRRRRZTTTTT~! THEY GOT SHOWDOWN! ~BRRRZT!~ NEVER SEEN SO MANY! REQUESTING BACKUP!"

It only takes a moment for Cosmos to turn to those present. "Alright. I don't know what's happening, but there's no way it's good. Take the maintenance elevator down to level B7 and see what you can do about it."

Already starting to move before the end of the transmission over allied channels he is obviously listening to as well Perihelion has the majority of his massive humanoid form in motion in the direction of the only elevator large enough to fit him, the one intended for maintenance, even before the order is given.  Despite long limbs the need for careful placement of those vehicle crushing feet in these tight quarters keeps his actual progress in the direction of that goal modest at best, ensuring most if not all of the other bots arrive at the elevator before him, hopefully leaving enough space in the elevator that he need not force them into uncomfortably close proximity.

"That is the importance of communication." Livewire nonchalantly stated as he began stretching out his pistons. After a good bit of limbering himself out, as much he could, he focused his ocular sensors around the group.

"Now then, allow me to demonstrate the importance of stealth, as only a Scientist can of course. I will be brief and delay explaining the importance of it to science, but in the course of observation a true scientist is to be un-noticed in their research."

And so as Livewire made his way to the elevator, he prepared to see how sneaky he could be. After all espionage and science required a careful tread.

Episode 1: MENACE OF THE MUTANTS!
Shatter stuck around long enough to listen to Cosmos before heading toward the elevator; once at the lift she made sure to do what she could to make room for the big 'bot. He'd need the space, and this was one of those times when being a little smaller than the average was rather useful. "Before we go in swinging we should make sure who we're attacking," she spoke conversationally and to the group in general once the elevator was in motion; she wasn't trying to assume command and she didn't want to -- but Shatter also didn't want to see a bunch of engineers cut down just because they were all amped up.
