Onward to Bokken's hut to question the potion maker

When you ask Oleg for a rough description of where Bokken's hut is in relation to his fort he is certain that the location in in the G2 hex, where H2 and G3 meet one another.

If only some of you decide to go on this jaunt, that is fine, the others can settle the loot with Oleg and order goods....  Though if no one goes the hex will be explored in due time any way.

Getting up early, Filarion gets in a quick jog around the palisade. He comes back after about an hour and, after a quick splash of water to wash away the sweat and grime before putting on his armor and weapons. He then moves to the stables to load up his horse with his pack.

Drezghl grabbed a plate and ate lightly.  He was going to stay behind and help with the shingles and do some horse training.

Maybe you should take a bottle of that green stuff with you.  The hermit might know what it is. "

The battle priestess did not hesitate in the slightest before grabbing a plate and chowing down. Moving around in metal armor was tiring even by horseback and her morning training/supplications to Gorum always gave her a fearsome appetite.

”How long have you been in this area? Have you had encounters with these bandits of the Stag Lord infesting these parts?”

Imiria pulls a bottle out of the case and passes it over.
"You might want to ask all your other questions before you hand this off to the man, he sounds a bit exxentric, and he may drink it."

@Octavia
"I have not seen him, but surely he is known to some of the bandits."

Oleg comes out to wave you on your way to the potion makers hut.

Onward to Bokken's hut to question the potion maker

The brief ride to locate Bokkens hut is uneventful.

It is afternoon of the second day when you begin making this hex one of the first things you notice is someone has a fire going in the distance, you see smoke and expect to ride upon a campsite.  As you near the area you can plainly see a hut is built here, various herbs hang outside the hut, and somewhere within a fire is going. The front door is open.

As you approach you can hear two men? engaged in conversation.

A voice older and gruffly cracking with age speaks out. "Whoo hoo! I did to see him I say. That fiend of the forest, Tuskgutter, what stole my leg you know as well as I, Bokken."

The answer comes in a shrill and high pitches squeaky voice, that sounds birdlike.  "Just as like a trap of Breeg's took your leg and what would a boar want with a fifth leg? If it's as big as you claim mayhaps it used it to prop it's manhood while plowing a sow?" Replies Bokken.

"I've hunted these woods for thirty years and I'll be damned if that boar will shame me. I'll have his tusks for crutches and make headcheese from his skull before I'm through!"

Octavia strides forward boldly, declaring herself for the two men.

"I am Octavia Cassiana. We are representatives of Brevoy looking to drive banditry and chaos from these lands. Would one of you be the alchemist named Bokken? Oleg pointed us in this direction and we are hoping to meet up with the locals before we push farther South."

The inside of Bokken's hut is filled with herbs, vials, and jarred oddities. A small cot is covered in furs to one side and a large work bench takes up the majority of the right side. The two men sit at a table before the fireplace and boiling pot.

A short pot bellied old man creaks to stand and hold out his gnarled hand. "Name's Vekkel Benzen, young'un. As Bokken's not screaming like a wild cat you must be a friend."

His leathers are worn and well patched. He wears a skunk furred boots with a matching vest. A wooden peg just from the lower half of his right pant leg.

Holding out a hand to shake, he says, "Filarion."

The man  Vellek adds in
”You ain’t seen the brother of your in years, the boar though he’s real and tearing through the thick forest.”

The two men each in turn shake hands with whomever is extending a hand in greeting....

They introduce themselves as well...
"Vellek."

"Bokken."

"I've seen Tuskgutter time and again in these forests. He's escaped my traps over and over. Even tried to bring him down with my own bare hands when I was a younger man. Why not so different from yourself." He rubs his chin thoughtfully. "Truth have it. Don't think I'll ever get him now, but if'n someone brought me his head as a trophy I'd die a happy man at heart."

Bokken speaks up "A roost for an old rooster hours of banter for an old bantam."

"Huh...I think he means a man of my age should be able to settle in peace." The hunter translates. "Why if I knew Tuskgutter had been bested I would hand over my own bow!"

He points towards a bow leaning by the door. Even unstrung it looks like it would be impossible for him to draw...

Vellek listens and responds appropriately
"Bandits I see and steer clear o'; I had not heard o' no Staglord an Bokken ain't said nothing bout some such either, though sometimes I think he can see beyond my eyes."

The mans eyes fall back over his bow....
"Aye, took me a year of carving and sanding. Made from a branch off the creature known as the Scythe Tree from the far south Narlmarches." He runs knotted hands over the wood. "She's a fine bow. A little green, but they take time to season."

"If you're inclined to hunt the beast. I think I've tracked Tuskgutter's lair to about twenty miles south west of the Thorn River ford. Keep an eye out for bandits there. They're worse then the kobolds and mites in the southern hills." Vekkel has a laugh at the bandits expense. He must not realize they've been dealt with at the river.

"Well just yesterday I saw half a dozen of the lizards feasting on radishes here." He says pointing to the west side of a rough map on the table. "As for those mites I came across several of their bodies two days ago up in the hills due south."

Bokken stares blankly out the window as if no one else is there and adds
"Eyes without a face."

Octavia puffed out her chest a bit at the mention of bandits.

"You should know that the bandits at the Thorn River ford are no more. We cleared them out just the other day, slaughtered or captured them to a man. The ones we chose to forgive are repaying their debt to civilization at Oleg's fort. The others...the others are no longer a concern for this plane of existence. Let Norgorber sort out those thieves and cowards."

The elf nods his head, not sure if he believes Bokken or not, but there was no real evidence to the contrary. "What potions do you have for sale usually?"

Once he gets a general list, he thanks the two older men for their time and asks his companions, "If no one has anything else, we should head back."

Bokken brightens suddenly. "Possessing potions and oils perhaps? An oil to shine your smooth pate a potion for your bowels would those be of interest?"

He jerks towards you and spins about. "Dangers as far as the eye can see more often unseen....Ah a man who knows he's a horse and speaks backwards finds himself a horses ass." The hermit narrows his eyes at the other males present "Charge ye a colonic of cologne and cognac to clean your clap and clear your conk?"

Bokken charges into the back of his hutt yelling out names of potions and items. After a minute or two of crashing furniture, rather imaginative swearing, and what sounds like an argument with a stove he comes back out. With delicate care he sets down a wooden crate removing the lid to reveal two rows of bottles.

Bokken's Wares:
3 x potion of cure light wounds - 50gp
2 x potion of cure medium wounds - 300gp
potion of comprehend languages - 50gp
potion of endure elements - 50gp
potion of protection from evil - 50gp

The bottles are very similar to the one found earlier, currently on the mule. For any who looked at it they recognize the hand written labels as the same. Each one has a small tag tied on with a string showing a price. Bokken gestures toward the crate grinning madly. "A sampling of my goods! Unless you actually needed a laxative," He says cocking an eyebrow. "I would make more but I've since run out of fangberries....and they make the potions so delicious."

Bokken begins to stare vacantly to the south still grinning with his raised eyebrow.
Vellek adds in "He wants to sell you some potions, and perhaps wants to hire you to find fangberries."

Gathering Fanberries -
Source: Crazy old Bokken
Task: Bokken’s something of an eccentric, but he knows how to make delicious potions. His secret is an additional ingredient, fangberry juice, but he’s running low. A large thicket of fangberries grows about 55 miles southwest of Oleg’s.
Completion: Bring Bokken enough berries to make fangberry juice for seven potions.
Reward: Bokken gives the PCs a 25% discount on any 7 potions.

"Thanks for the information and we nope to see you again." With that he mounts up and starts heading back to Oleg at an easy trot.

So that's 675 from the group account
