Octavia nodded. "Then lead on. Let us see what this spirit is about." She tossed the reins lightly to lead her horse after Mikmek.

Re: Exploring the Western Plains

Mikmek leads you to a place that is an abandoned remnant. A thick, sagging rope still hangs across the river, all that remains of the bridge that once spanned it. A signpost at either end of the ruined bridge reads “Nettles’ Crossing—5 coppers—ring bell for service.” A rusty bell hangs by each sign. On the south bank of the river, the crumbled remains of a burnt-down wooden building are slowly being overgrown by encroaching vegetation.

Mikmek points to the bell....

Re: Exploring the Western Plains

Octavia dismounts, pulling her greatsword by reflex.  She waits until her companions are closer, then bows her head.  "Gorum watch over us as we march to danger," she murmurs, casting a blessing on herself and her allies.

OOC: Cast Bless +1 attack and against fear saves.

Looking at what appears to be a deserted shack and long-missing bridge, she takes the bell and gives it two, hard rings.

Filarion wasn't versed in what to do with spirits, so he just concentrated on holding his horse steady and being ready if Octavia needed him.

The soggy spirit walks up stream until it comes to the center of the bridge...

“Bring the one called the Staglord so that I may have vengeance upon him and witness his death!”

The words of the spirit make you think this restless undead is tied to vengeance upon the one who killed him.

The spirit looks at Tatyana and nods...

In the water near the debris from the bridge flotsam pops up from below the surface; of white and varying shapes and sizes; that flow around in an eddy of current; the pieces take shape and flow upstream.  The pieces merge into a full skeleton that settles on the beach ....

The specter begins to melt back into the water

"I cannot promise that we will be able bring him here to execute this Staglord. I doubt he will come without a fight.  But, we will bring proof of his death here, so this spirit may rest, and we will return their remains to his homeland." Octavia nods to the waters.

"We have a long road ahead of us.  Let us continue back to Oleg's and determine our next course of action."

The wild creatures seem to avoid the area immediately around the haunt itself.  Later that night the dreams begin; and due to the link among you the dreams are shared.  In the dream you are a young and successful engineer in a large city...

Re: Exploring the Western Plains

The dream moves in both fast speeds and at times in slow motion, and it continues the life story of a single man flowing the last year or so of his life....

The travel in the wilds building first a bridge and then a home at the point in the river, and charging a fair toll to any who crossed whether a kingsman or a bandit...

The blueprints and drawings of the man are fully detailed in the dream as if you yourself had drawn them....

The joy and happiness of the dream are short lived however as an angry confrontation takes place between the staglord and the man, he manages to defend himself and outright kill two of the bandits.

The quarrel echoes in your mind and you can hear the staglord's demand that his men be given free passage and that the man Davik Nettles must pay a toll to the staglord.

Re: Exploring the Western Plains

You begin to have pleasant dreams of a future and perhaps getting married and settling down to have some children,

Suddenly you are awakened in a small room, choking smoke and the heat of flames, you look around for a way out and dressed only in your pants you grab your weapon and jump out the window...

The choking smoke seems to follow you and burns your eyes in a blur, you hear the water and run towards the river, a group of men whoop and give chase to kill you.

You run out onto the bridge and cross to mid-stream the men single file behind you on the narrow expanse. Others are coming from the other side.

You catch the eye of the staglord himself just as he shoots an arrow through your eye...

You fall into a nightmare of darkness a cold abyss of nothing and the single thought of vengeance remains....

Re: Exploring the Western Plains

Snapping out of his trance, Filarion reaches up with a hand to grab at his face before realizing he'd just had a vision. Looking about the still camp, he takes in a deep breath as he avoids thinking so as the events stay in mind. That was odd, but they had just dealt with a spirit that hated the Staglord.

The dream only firmed the idea that he needed to be dealt with.

19:41, Today: Filarion Petxalim rolled 12,8 using D20+2,d20+1 with rolls of 10,7.  Int/wis.

Octavia yells as she rolls from her bedroll, her eyes wild and reaching for her greatsword, slashing at the air as she looks about for enemies.  She pants as her red hair sticks out in all directions until she finally blinks, trying to relax the animal snarl on her face.

She drops the tip of the sword to the ground as she mutters quietly to herself, closing her eyes.  "gorum guard me...gorum guard me..."

You find a pure hatred for the Staglord, you gain a plus 2 to attack the man but a -2 to other checks (social) such as diplomacy, bluff, etc but not intimidate

Re: Exploring the Western Plains

Drezghl woke with a start, soaked in sweat.  He looked around quickly and saw that all was on order in the camp but that his companions seemed to be shook up as well.

His awakening from the dream reminded him of his near death experience defending Oleg's trading post only a few weeks before.  It definitely left him unnerved for a couple hours.

21:46, Today: Drezghl Zuhv rolled 7,8 using d20,d20 with rolls of 7,8.  Dream sequence Int/Wis.
