OOC Chatter (2)

Hi all, I'll be one of the new people joining you.

Eilyne is a phytokineticist (think a good Poison Ivy) who will be joining you.  I won't be done with building the character entirely until at least tonight if not the weekend due to my work schedule.  I will be primarily a damage dealer with some control ability.

Just to get a bit of input as I can build in several different directions I can build towards area control (takes a fair bit) as well as eventually healing (don't think I can right yet though, have to check the requirements), or potentially melee though this archetype really hurts anything that requires I accept burn (cause I can't as an overwhelming soul, and they are temp negative levels, yeah, it hurts a lot).  If we really need more melee then I may swap out the archetype (with permission) to make that work.

Ahhhh.....
Octavia just be what you want to be.
Your character has had two major personally changes already.
One was a battle harden nutter that would never cast a healing spell and was bit of lose cannon (see it, smell it, hit it type).
Anther was a fine tacticianer that did a lot healing and lead the group for while (this was the last one).

Don't be frightened to take the leader role if you like.
Tauron is not a leader but a support character.  You will not be stepping of my toes if you do take the role.

That does not help my mind at all.
I now left wondering if Octavia Cassiana has a set of any of these.

Item                 Price Weight Source
Manacles, common 15 gp 2 lbs. PZO1123
Manacles, false 65 gp 2 lbs. PZO1123
Manacles, masterwork 50 gp 2 lbs. PZO1123
Manacles, mithral 2,015 gp 2 lbs. PZO1123
Manacles, quickcatch 180 gp 3 lbs. PZO9455
Manacle barbs         +15 gp 1 lb. PZO1121
Fetters          15 gp 2 lbs. PZO1121
Fetters, masterwork 50 gp 2 lbs. PZO1121

Then the thoughts of Doctor Who (number 10, number 11 and 12) and River Song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-bnEI2HdYY
Then I realize I got way way of line.

Sorry.

I think I’m done with my level up.

Also quick question re loot; as far a I can tell Octavia owns a masterwork weapon and a masterwork armour, nothing else.
Did we just never found anything more valuable, or does she simply not want magic items?
She may be a convert to minimalism after all.

Re: OOC Chatter (2)

There has not been a great number of magic items.
We often got them as addition items or as level up.

I have magic long-sword and longbow and that it.
But they are nice ones so I am not complaining (the gm let me upgrade my longbow twice) (Player smile gratefully at GM).

So I would have thought you should at least have one magic weapon.
You may want check the following.

Re: OOC Chatter (2)

Quick notes
#1 upgrading gear with cash
Instead of selling the old item and buying a new one you can pay to upgrade
So I bought a great sword and later want to say it is cold iron
The cost would be the price of the great sword again
Later I decide I want the item to be masterwork, I pay 300 gold
Later on I want it to be a +1 so I pay 2000 gold

Questions?

#2 Brief synopsis
Characters chartered to explore the stolen lands
Stopped bandit raids on Oleg’s
Started exploring (see hex map for exploration)
Treaty with kobold and mite kingdoms

Now expecting the bandit lord who raised an army to directly assault Oleg’s trading post
Party passed on options of attacking/infiltration of the bandit stronghold
Party passed on stopping the marching army from reaching the fort

The fort is in preparation
One group is working on restoration of the catapults
Another on calling upon new Allies for assistance

Questions?

As the group got the trees and returned or are we away.

I trying to work out who Eilyne Groveborn is talking to.

Because if the group has returned and she talking to person in charge of repairing the war engine than by odd set of events it Tauron (as he has highest engineering skills).
It it is him then this going to take an odd turn.

You may find his response is not his usual light-hearted one.

It would be more like yes Drezghl Zuhv and now I am going to bury you under it !!!

So we gone from
War! What is good for! absolutely nothing.

to

Half-orc! What are they good for! Compost!

he he.

Total of 10 traps per the Exploring the Western Plain thread, pg 10. If we can hide them in tall grass around the post we can hold bandits in place and pick away at others that aren't stuck then get them after.

I don’t know who River Song is, but Octavia is no princess.
She’s a commoner turned priestess with a penchant for disembowelment and tactics.
In terms of government (as this is Kingmaker) she be better suited to being field marshal, seneshal, or general than princess (or ruler)

To be fair, I assume warrior princess would subsume the femme fatale and roguish aspects of the character, but the cross examination clarifies things a bit.

I'll just take the impression away that Octavia is a warrior prodigy in a fight, but mostly just a Lass trying to find where she belongs when she's not in savant mode. Not that Theo's seen her brilliance yet.

You have missed out.  Oh and River Song a sociopath.  She is or was a major character in Dr Who (Theo Foster - you must be British or really big geek).

It two part.  You also need to have good understand of the character Dr Who or a lot of what going on will go over your head.  Like when she calls him young (he like 700+ years at the time).

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6safqi

This is rundown of her history.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fO8t44Kg3A

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Song_(Doctor_Who)

And put it in context she appear in series in 2008 and last appear in 2016.

Oh and a note on her last and first appearance.

Her last appearance on the show was just before her first.

Sorry to say I not watched the lasted Dr.
Sort of stopped watching when clara left for some reason.

Re: OOC Chatter (2)

Here is one example for 8 years while both shows were on television (overlapped with each other)
Both of which ran 13 seasons
I had the option of watching the horrid; Murder she wrote
While other people got to watch: Poirot

I have now watched nearly all of Poirot (and recommend it)
I actually watched about three episodes of Murder she wrote when it was on (and it was unbearable)

Theo, I'm not sure what you mean by "just a lass trying to find where she belongs", and she's neither femme fatale or roguish.

Re: OOC Chatter (2)

I've seen very little of the original Doctor Who but I've seen (and have) every episode of the relaunch through series 12 (Walmart had a really good price on them not long ago).  It's odd at times but generally a lot of fun.

Riversong was one of the more interesting characters I thought, especially with them basically living their relationship in opposite directions.

I really hope they bring back the Doctor's Daughter at some point as well since that thread has been hanging out there for most of the series now.

The newest Doctor has done a superb job and they really shook things up with the origin of the time lords and just how long Doctor Who has actually been around (series 12 deals with this and sets up some really interesting posibilities as a consequence).

Re: OOC Chatter (2)

There's 3+ hours of context to the riversong bit, I went that way because of the hair and shes one of the strongest female character around in her own right.

Tauron is latching on to some extreme aspects of the character due to the circumstances. One could argue most of her crimes and kills are punish evil or defensive in nature, and shes far less flirty when the doctor is off screen for spoilers. One of the problems when you spread character context backwards over multiple seasons is people form strong impressions of about them and don't tend to reexamine it later.

It's limited in scope but I'm assuming Octavia is that like a country/smalltown girl at heart, a bit unsure of politics, probably even out here because she's risen above her status by skill, and made some people uncomfortable.

Shes almost normal/average when not in battle mode, and having a slight but noticeable difference when she gets down to business.

When she gets down to business, she is Xena levels of intune to fighting and battle.
But these are all baseline assumptions the is making about how Octavia is presenting herself just to give me better context.

----------

Your a nice normal person to interact with, while other pcs might have various deranged or manipulative personalities. In battle you could be mistaken for a princess or noble by leadership, skill, and prowess, but outside of it your just a common woman with a job as a soldier and cleric.

That's how he will look at what Octavia says and does. Influenced by future interactions of course.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify! I really don't know enough about Dr Who to comment on the comparison, but the description you make is accurate.

I got confused by the whole femme fatale (which brings to mind curvaceous blondes in a film noir) and roguish (which suggests dishonourable intentions) aspect :)

Also did you create your character as a botanist so you could play doctor with the flirtatious phytokinetist?

Dr Who and Game of Thrones suffered the same reason I never got interested I them, there's no permanency. The moment you liked a particular character, they would either kill them off or the season would change.

Re: OOC Chatter (2)

No, I was going for a professor of something aspect before I became aware of the resident poison ivy. I was already leaning towards Herbology, learned of it and was amused by the aspect of having find that rare plant adventures. Then I learned there was a Herb witch, and thought YES, that my character hook right there.

I'm leaning more towards the botanist version of Indian Jones, an adventurer but far closer to mildly mad scientist(my familiar) or Daniel Jackson. I'm here in the region because i'm a good influence in a organization that might be less good, I'm here to get down to business and catalog all the plant and thier uses in the region before humanity moves in and ruins the environment and gets sick from them. He lives plants like a nerd lives sci-fi. Eilyne would probably more curious about her symbiotic situation to his logical side then his other brain, and if she made early advances he would probably categorize her as out of his league, a bit too forward, or even dangerously hot which would put him off quite a bit. He isn't used to forward women, and still lives in a world where women are place a bit higher in status and expecations.

I'm a excitable chap with a penchant for getting lost in recording things, learning new things, exploring new things, and otherwise mastering the knowledge of unusual and dangerous plant and their uses. You live in a world where moving, eating plants are the norm, there is bound to be excitement everywhere.  Plants in hard to reach places, plants in dangerous locations, plants with unsual traits or adapations, plants with unusual uses. Always collecting, recording, rooting around. He's obsessed and he is ok with that, and lets it drive him.

It's a great way to bring the character into the setting with his own baggage, intentions, and even work arounds without dragging others down. Rather then ask a wizard to case fly spells, we can just go out get get some insert magical variety of cotton candy that lets us fly. Controlled and useful madness at the dm's convience.

Also everyone, the dog is doopy, good with kids, and otherwise house trained. It would rather run away then fight a normal frog, It's just a big lazy mutt when it isn't told to track or given something to drag around. It might roll some kegs around if it gets bored, but no one should feel threatened by it unless they would fear a pony or a mule. If you shoo it away it will shoo easily. It's like the stoned hippy version of a dog. This dog would love nothing more then pulling october hay rides full of kids around, or snoozing in the sun, or being helpful.

Feel free to include it in role play, as it's a bit of a prop, just remember it's a friendly coward, and it thinks it's as small as a house cat.

And knowing Current events is not what Theo has been doing for the past two weeks, and possibly away from gossip for longer. I don't even think he is a charter bearer so much as a pc working in the area.

I actually have no idea whats currently happening in the broader sense of things as I'm unfamiliar with the details beyond the introductory premise.

I'm also trying to reply to each character that rushes to introduce themselves in smooth strokes as they do. Octavia up to the fort, Eilyne once inside, and then Tauron and Eilyne as he progresses across the fort to the garden.

I assume Tauron is the type to have shiny expensive well kept gear by his description, the level of polish that marks a youth out in the wilds usually  naive and out to make a name for themselves.

Here Theo is walking into to and getting greeted by all these new faces asking for his name like it's a festival.

I kinda like how every though is on defense/sieging, you know you how many bandits are coming from which direction.

The same amount of effort could have been put into ambushing/deterring them at potentially less risk of life and the need of siege weaponry. Catching them exhausted after a march, or at camp and knocking them around a bit is potenitally less violent and deadly, and opens the trading post up to less damage, particularly if you have access to entangle.

Theo could help with making tar or improving the Siege weapons, but he hasn't gotten there yet. He's finishing his own quest and listening to the tests and frustrations of the weapons, as he transplants the plant he brought.

Tauron may not be out of range.  Study the banit camp setup.  Then

1) Longbow + levitate + high intelligence + Know: Engineer.

2) Or firebomb on a fuse + speak with animal + swan.

Both of these could result in setting something in the bandit camp alight.  Maybe the wagon of pitch.  If done after dark that could course some chaos?

You can crit.
2x as far I can tell.
You hit the 20 mark to hit where you want twice.
Problem is a normal catapult isn't overcoming AC, it's more like a fireball, where you aim it and it affects a area, and is oppose with a reflex save.
They might have moved in the fog and you aimed at someplace they are no longer. Up to DM since normal miss/concealment rules don't apply to indirect fire, but would make sense in context (picking for a square you think they are in and us not having a grid up).

Potentially under siege, but I think all evidence points to you wiping out the bandit force with a well aimed shot before they could move around in the mist. The mist may have even taken the bandits by surprise causing them to try to stab the wizard instead of spread out, though we have no way of knowing that.

It's been roughly 30 minutes to a hour since you fired the catapult, and it's been quiet since. No one accosted Tauron's investigation party, and Theo should be returning momentarily.

I'm not sure if Theo extrapolated the bandit's camp position from the tracks or went sherlock on their belongings, I doubt he followed the tracks a long distance, or where the information on the bandit camp is coming from. It might be from the Bird scout.

Hey, that Botanist reworked and tuned that catapult for you, it was practically sabatoge and getting d6s instead of d20s to hit before.

Would not be surprised if the bandits actually had sabatoged it, and got caught offguard by it working.

I'd say getting more then 1000ft out of the catapult will require magic range booster(s) and incur a lot of range penalties. Probably too far, but if we move it it could be used from some distance, treeline provided. Great distraction if you don't mind defending or losing it.

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats...ts/master-alchemist/ 28 hours?  /10 = 2.8 hours.

Supposedly Spontanous Alchemy alternate rules are good too, particularly for lower level games, but I've never really looked at it. The craft system isn't perfect but it's a rough approximation, true alchemists get swift alchemy which helps as well, but Theo is a dabbler in alchemy.

Theoretically you should be able to make so many batches of anything you produce alchemically, supplies willing, at roughly the same time. so it might take 3 days, but you could be making 12 at a time.

There are ways to shorten this, but they involve inflating the skill check even more. Theo can't even hit dc 20 with take 10 here, as he needs a roll of 11 to produce it.
