It looks like you've removed the ability of all the PCs to post to group 0 (which is where our threads are). Was that on purpose?

So I think that have some more back and forth in character, but could be handled quicker OOC - what's everyone's opinion on how you'd like to proceed?

I think covert, but in our uniforms, is best.

The route through the smaller neighborhoods, park, and zoo seems best. Yelena does enjoy the occasional trip to the zoo. And she's long dreamed of riding a rhinoceros into battle.

Spies gonna spy.  Lena would favor not looking like soldiers (or at least not like Allied soldiers) and sending a smaller, more easily mobile, group to check it out first and setting a rendezvous point for the rest of the force.

But I don't think anyone would care XD

I'm feeling pretty easygoing right now, so I'm amenable to whatever the group decides.

But yeah seems like we're more or less opting for a smaller platoon-sized group, or do folks want even smaller?  And avoiding the front as it were seems smart, as the last thing we want is to get caught up in a pitched battle.

I mean just going on some common sense, the smaller the group the less notice it's going to draw.  Granted, the fewer capabilities it will have, but I think where Lena is coming from is we're heading towards a target that could still be highly fortified to the point our entire crew wouldn't be able to move on it and infiltration might be the play.

Ralph and Arthur haven't chimed in and I'd like to give them a chance - they haven't logged in in a while, so I'm hoping we haven't lost them.

So a smaller group of the players is heading ahead, together with some extras? The rest of the troops following behind?

The players will be all in the first group, but who and how many extras will you take with you?

Sounds like a plan :)

The bulk of our troops looking after the prisoners I'm guessing?

7 PCs I think?

Seems like 5-6 additional Soviet soldiers and 1-2 additional Western allies would be a reasonable way to complete the group if we want a 1:1 ratio?

Figured this was the best place to discuss.  Zholdin is a d6 in German as well.

Saying that, you make a good point Max - it would be unskilled and thus d4-2 with the wild die (at -2) to try and understand, right?

If you don't know a language, there's no unskilled roll. You simply cannot speak nor understand it. You may make a Smarts roll to pick up on tone and gestures and the like, but that's pretty much it.

Yeah, I've never once had someone roll a language.  I did make a house rule once:

quote:
d4 - You could be a tourist in that country and not have too many problems.  You understand many basic things, but your speech is rudimentary.
d6 - You speak the language well enough, though it's obvious to native speakers it's not your first tongue.  Very complex, subtle or technical things may be a bit beyond you, but you could live in a country that spoke only this language and get by just fine.
d8 - Native Speaker, or so close you pass as one.  You were probably educated at the university level in this language, studied it formally, or have simply been speaking it for many years if not your entire life.
d10 - Skilled Grammarian.  You're a veritable wordsmith in the language and can speak in it eloquently without difficulty, with an exceptional vocabulary.
d12 - PhD in the Language, you know its etymology, exact pronunciations, and its many subtleties.  You could write papers on the language's features, and you probably do.

But then I started using the Extra Languages rule where you either speak and read the language, or you don't, because it honestly never seems to matter.

Not that far off the SWADE breakdown there Lena:
p31:
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
SKILL ABILITY
d4 The character can read, write, and speak common words and phrases.
d6 The speaker can carry on a prolonged but occasionally halting conversation.
d8 The character can speak fluently.
d10 The hero can mimic other dialects within the language.
d12 The speaker can masterfully recite important literary or oral works.

Yeah I forgot they actually broke it out lol

I made the above like... Explorer's Edition timeframe maybe, I don't remember

I had a lot of problems with languages, players complained they took too many points, so I initially started giving people half their smarts die as bonus language points, etc.

Once I found the Extra Languages rule I just ran with that and stopped putting ranks in languages at all.
