IC chats - In the Foxholes

This thread can be used for in-character conversations that don't quite fit into the structure of the existing threads, but could take too long to resolve in a group thread (with everyone waiting) or could be hard to follow (with everyone posting).

IC chats - In the Foxholes

When it felt like there was a moment to catch his breath between everything that was going on, Julius caught Arthur for a private word.

"Hello there Arthur. I was wondering if I could have a look at that book your grandma gave you. The fact it had the rune in it, I was curious if there was anything else in it that could be of interest."

Arthur looked at Julius and scratched his chin.
"It's the only thing I have left of my grandma. And some of the pages in there are quite... personal. What are you hoping for?"

"I'm not sure. I read folklore and the occult at Oxford before coming here to assist, and was brought in to help under the more 'esoteric' things the Nazis are doing. The fact that the rune was mentioned here, there may be something else. Something hidden with, perhaps?"

Arthur shrugged and pulled the book from his bag. He hesitates for a moment, then offers it to you.

The leather cover was well-worn and smooth, any markings it may have had long gone. The first page inside has the author's name as FG Barr, with the title "The Alchemystical", with a smaller subtitle
"Of legends, tales and myths & mages, witches and warlocks"

As you turn a few pages, you find some lines highlighted, annotations, comments, exclamation points added in the margins and on some of the blank half-pages. The handwriting is neat, the letters tight and tiny and hard to read. You didn't notice Arthur peeking in, too.

"Grandma often read in this book. That's her handwriting. Can't make it all out."

((Now you got the book - what do you want to do with it?))

Julius looks over the book. "I thought it would have been a book written by your grandma, like some kind of journal." He skims the book more. "But instead it's something she has annotated."

Taking a deep breathe, he quietly mutters to himself the incantation to see beyond the real world. It glowed like a light before, but now he is holding it, he wonders if he may see something specific in the pages.

((As we aren't in a combat situation, I weren't sure if you would want me rolling to cast Detect Arcana, or if it would be superfluous.))

((No need to roll))

You focus your attention on the book. Glowing lines appear, gettinger broader, until the book seems to emit light like a dim bulb. As you open the book again and flip through the pages, some are shining brighter than others.

Julius focused on the brighter pages, to see what is causing it to do so.
Is it due to what is on them?
Is it due to how it was written?
Is it from the original notes, or Arthur's grandma's annotations?
Is it something that should worry him, or be enlightening?

((Research roll, please. You spend the time walking to the fort and lying in wait in the bushes by flipping through the book))
