2.2 - Hearts Afire

You have police reports of three break-ins at different facilities across Emerald City.  Two are associated with MarsTech, and the other was outsourced to a special project at Emerald City University (ECU),  bringing grad students of engineering, science and business together.

A representative of MarsTech legal has submitted that the specs for the working prototype are under wraps and do not appear to have been threatened.  So having the various components won't guarantee being able to use them.  But Alice Kitterling is quite intelligent and very at-home with advanced tech.

So... what's the first move?

"Lachesis, do you think you can learn anything about how the thief broke in to the three previous sites?  I'm curious if this is a one-person job or if it looks like they had help.  Plus anything we find out might help us anticipate how they'll strike at the remaining two locations."

With a shrug she admits, "I'm going to assume MarsTech had decent security in place; ECU maybe not.  Maybe we can talk to the staff at each and see if anything seems out of place?"

"I don't suppose you've got a good eye for when someone's not being completely honest, do you?" she smiles to Punching Bag,  "If it's not a paper I can analyze and find where they've fudged the research I'm not always good and telling when someone's holding back."

She waited to hear what the others thought

In the planning room, Punching Bag sits in a chair with his arms crossed looking over the data. “Seems to me it would be a piece of cake for this chick to put jail cameras on a video loop and wipe the guards’ memories to go conduct crimes and come back to appear as if she never left. It is also a possibility that Kepp has hired her to steal tech from their rival, Mars Tech. The last two pieces of the puzzle are in play. I think we should split up guarding them and if we encounter her for the other to be radio’d and arrive to assist. I can move pretty fast when I need to. Hopefully, the rest of you can as well.”

The security for the components are analyzed. “Due to her ability with firearms and tech, I suggest that we erect a simple metal wall around the components. We should also rig the components with explosives in case the criminal gets away with them. If Mars can’t have it, nobody will kind. As for feeling out the other people, I’m decent at it if not completely subtle.”

"Get me there, and I'm your huckleberry,"  Cassandra replied, pointing finger-guns at the air just to Jenni's left.  She took in Jesse's explanation with what was technically patience, but since she didn't actually respond to any of it—or blink during—it was possible she hadn't actually listened.

"I'll tell you what I can about the sites she already hit, but that might not be something security is cool with, so, everyone keep your badge on.  But absolutely, before night comes, I want to be in that prison.  People who get into my head tend to regret it, and visual illusions..."  She shrugged.  "Silver lining, right?"

PB scratched his chin. “But what if it isn’t her? Then the two pieces left might get stolen by somebody else.”

Glancing to Lachesis she asked, "Going to Alice Kitterling possibly tips her off that we'll be waiting at the next site but anything you might learn from her past is probably worth that risk.  We should be able to get in to see her tonight; regardless the time."

Punching an intercom Jenni asks the voice on the other end of the line, "We're going to be visiting Buckner Ridge today to speak with Alice Kitterling.  We need the paperwork ready to authorize an interview with the prisoner, please."

As an afterthought she added, "We may also inspect the MarsTech and ECU sites of the theft so I need to have the forms ready to show when we arrive."

Considering Punching Bags's concern EM reviewed the previous incidents to see what time they occurred and how much time passed between thefts.  She hoped to see if there were any patterns and anticipate when the next might be targeted.

07:30, Today: Emerald Star rolled 7 using 1d20+6.  Investigation.
- nevermind, looks random to me

"Hmmm, I guess that's possible.  No telling when they'll strike the next facility.  Speaking of..." she spread the papers out so she could find what she was looking for, "where are the last 2 components current being held?"

Where ARE the last 2 components being kept?

"ECU and MarsTech are relatively close, University Hill and South Shore respectively.  The university is closest, let's check it out and then decide if we should move to put eyes on the remaining components immediately or not.  What do you think?"

I say let's get an idea what happened at at least on of the sites so we can try to be prepared to protect the remaining components.

How are we on movement powers?  Do we all just plan to meet at locations or should EM carry folks around.  If carried then: what do you want to be carried in?  Consider the implications.  We're in Emerald City.  I'm green and fly.  A bicycle or anything that can remotely be tied to monkey's and people are gonna start to really tie it all together.

Lachesis frowned and raised her sunglasses to peer at Punching Bag, her confusion only deepening when Emerald Star extended the thought. It took her a few seconds to sort out what had just happened, during which her eyes stayed clearly unfocused but kept flickering with that red light.

Once she found the gap, though, it was back to her good-natured grin. She tucked the mirrored shades into her loose a-line bob. "Okay, so, what I meant was that we have three important sites to cover and three people to cover them. So let's do that lap to review the tapes, then split for coverage. You two beefcakes can literally just hold on to the last components to protect them, and I'm probably the best option for keeping an eye on Alice's Wanderlust. We stake out, stay sharp, I warn you if she does anything spooky and try to tail her. If you get a visitor first, I'll check to see if the lady in the cage is real, then head out. We all meet up wherever shit's going down and play hero for a while."

Cass hits +11 these days, so she should be fine following her plan, even if she takes a nap in the middle of the pursuit. She hates having to walk everywhere, though, so an airlift into position always goes over well.

"Ah see," Jenni nods, "sounds great.  Off to ECU then?" she motions towards the room's exit.

Wow you two leave the rest of us in the dust.

EM can carry Lachesis will her Move Object ability.

Really hoping that Lachesis can tell immediately if caged Alice is an illusion; hopefully her illusion ability requires vision. /fingers-crossed

Punch nodded. “Sounds good. I’ll head to the other site and cradle that part like a baby. Give me a call with details if anything happens. Hopefully, she won’t realize to mess with our comms, so we can’t communicate. I’ll wait for the clearances to go through before showing up. No need to scare away the possible perps too soon. I’m pretty fast, so it should take less than a minute for me to show up.”
