We all need to talk about this!

Honestly, I like posting throughout the week. If we're waiting for one post a week, threads like Komekhian's and Braxis's are going to drag because a lot is happening that the GM has to weigh in on.

I wouldn't mind going back to one GM post on Wednesday (IF all involved players have posted) and then live Rpol every other Saturday with a single GM post on the alternate Saturdays. That way threads keep moving, but things aren't getting lost because of different posting rates. Then if a thread is moving faster (such as Komekhain and Braxis) the GM could post more frequently, so long as it doesn't put them ahead of another relevant thread.

Asking people to post every day isn't feasible for some players, but only posting once a week is frustratingly slow for others. There has to be some sort of happy medium.

We all need to talk about this!

My concern is mainly player posts.

If GM posts Saturday, Margo posts Sunday, and I don't respond to Margo until Friday (because there is no need to post before then because the GM is posting on Saturday), then Margo waits all week and does not have an opportunity to respond to me before the GM posts.

This happened when Matthew was posting once a week and then went to Wednesdays/Saturdays.

I know Matthew wants to keep the story moving so it doesn't stall, but by doing so, he keeps 'skipping' over player roleplay that could (and probably should) be happening.

My favorite rpol Saturday was a day when players were talking to each other. It was nice to see the roleplay, but it was also nice to not have to keep up and post for Matthew the entire time. I don't get many posts in for Vae'Lyra or Braxis because I'm so focused on keeping up with things for him.

Maybe add an OOC comment that you want to continue to talk between characters before GM moves on? That way unless something specific needs to interrupt we could continue to roleplay?

I like Lauren's idea, perhaps stating we.are all ready will make things run a little smoother. As for the months for tabletop sessions, I am in the same boat as Autumn. As long as I enough notice.

The months are already been selected. I just have to pick the weekend in that month.

Knowing the months doesn't help her though (or Benjamin either).  They have to know exact dates and commit to them so they can ask for them off.  Then they may or may not get those days off...  The sooner they have exact dates and submit them, the more likely they'll be to get them.

Similar to my addendum to post when ready so the GM can go ahead and continue a thread.

So basically, the players need to post what they need from the GM whether it be more time or to move on!

Would three months be enough notice? If we are playing in January, then we should have dates set by the end of September?

The same thing is likely to happen anyway, to be honest.

You've got some players who are able to post multiple times a week (and that's awesome)... but you've also got some players who work odd hours and have other things going on who quite frankly are doing good just to be able to post on Saturdays.

You say that, but "The Cast" at the top says otherwise. There is a post, and then the player gets on three days in a row and cannot even type 2 sentences to keep the roleplay going.

...

Yes, but what "The Cast" does not tell you is that we log in to check, then spend time at work or doing other things thinking of a response.  Just because we log in does not mean we have the opportunity to post.

Furthermore, I almost never type two sentences and leave it.  I think of thoughtful responses and take time to craft a well-written reply more often than not.  I will not rush a post. Full stop.

In reply to Vae'Lyra (msg # 17):

I have a habit of checking rpol everyday or sometimes every other day. Most of the time, I have nothing to post because I have nothing to respond to. I've been part of threads where the other players are rping with each other but excluding my character so in case I don't see a reason for me to post. I don't see the sense or logic in posting just to say,  x stares into the distance because I don't have anyone that will rp with me.

Checking in to try and keep up with what's going on is a lot different then having to get into the mindset of a character, type up a post, and then make sure you haven't missed anything (which happens anyway). And I know for me if the last app I had open was chrome and it was on HotD, when I unlock my phone it automatically updates and says I logged on, even if I immediately close it.

Re: We all need to talk about this!

Even with posting that we are ready, players need to check every couple of days, or things will stall.

How long are we expected to wait for other players to respond?

I would get very frustrated if I post and then have to wait a week (or 2) before something happens.

That would soon get me to the point where I would not want to participate anymore.

But is it equally frustrating to be part of two or more threads, trying to keep up during fast paced Saturday posting, and because of that missing out on vital info(which is what happened last time). It got to the point then that I almost stop playing for the night. I understand not wanting to slow down too much but also wish that you would see my side of it.

Re: We all need to talk about this!

I think the problem with some of that is everything happening in one thread on The Gray Wolf. So many people doing so many things at once... plus, after a conversation with Jacob that evening, it was easy to see the GM had posted three times in about 20 minutes with little time for people to respond. At least one post was ninja'd and missed.

That actually happened to me tonight. Two posts ended up before one of my posts, and the game never told me that I had missed them. I found them quick, but it was luck.

----

I really think communication would fix MOST of these problems that MOST players are having.

A simple text message:

Working on a post.

And the GM would stop and wait, and players would know to look for one.

The GM should do the same. Say he is about to post, and ask if anyone needs him to hold of and wait.

Re: We all need to talk about this!

I can understand where Autumn's coming from, cause it also has to do with how fast each thread is going. One thread might be going slow for me then I work on the other waiting for a reply, then i look back and see that alot happened while i was working on the other.

I don't have a problem with posting multiple times in a night on Saturdays that we play, assuming we can all stay focused, and we don't go so fast as to leave people behind....

I just can't guarantee that I'll be able to reply to post during the week.  Sometimes I can, and do... But sometimes things come up, I don't feel the inspiration to post a decent post (see my above statement about not rushing posts), or so on and I don't get a post up until the next week's session.

I've said before that I can usually manage 1-2 posts  a week (no counting those on Saturday).  I've also said that frankly, this is not likely to change.

Re: We all need to talk about this!

I do know, I would rather keep the every other Saturday live rpol. It lets us make plans on the weekend to go home and visit (or just make plans Saturday night in general). We miss so much on weekends we go home because of live rpol and I hated that. Being able to plan around that makes it much easier to not miss stuff.

Re: We all need to talk about this!

I agree with Kat. Every other weekend is best for us, as well.

I am not a player most Saturdays... I post for the GM. I purposefully put Vae'Lyra in the background  so that I don't have to post for her. It sucks. Honestly, to the point I have wanted to quit the campaign.

It is exhausting...and I've talked to Matthew about how I live with the GM, not my husband. He understands, and that is one reason he agreed to go to every other weekend.

Re: We all need to talk about this!

Here is my understanding of the needs/wants of the group:

- Players want to roleplay more with other players.
- Players need to pay attention to other players and not ignore them.
- Do not expect more than 1-2 posts from players during the week.
- Live rpol every other Saturday, and slow things down with MASSIVE amounts of player and GM communication via OOC: comments and text messages.
- Tabletop sessions January, April, and July -- make sure to have the date set at LEAST three months ahead so players can ask off for the weekend.

Anything I missed?
