Re: OOC

I just became aware that people didn’t like the hobbit trilogy. Why? Did you guys like them?

Admittedly turning one book into three movies was interesting, and the second movie was slow and boring. But the first one and the last one was great I thought. Even the second one was good for what it was.

Re: OOC

In reply to Berethor (msg # 514):

Overall I liked them.

Yes, there was some artistic licence with the story, as with the LOTR trilogy, but that is to be expected with any movie adaptation of a book. But overall I think they did a good job.

Some bits were a bit silly, like the bridge falling down a chasm with the great goblin landing on top at the end of the first film, and at first I thought it was too silly, but on rewatching I excused it. Same with very bouncy elves running about in Desolation.

Also, my 11yo son has just gotten into the franchise (I hate using that word!). He has watched the first two Hobbit films and played the Lego game, and is now playing the Lego LOTR game too. I plan to watch the remaining movies with him when appropriate, but I know bits can be scary (e.g. Nazgul, Dead Marshes). He struggles a bit when characters he likes die, and his favourites dwarves are Thorin, Kili and Fili (spoiler alert!!!) so that will be tricky.

What are people’s thoughts on the upcoming TV series? Will it work? Will you watch it?

Re: OOC

In reply to Valtharr, Son of Valbrand (msg # 517):

I liked them as well. They were meant to be, as the Hobbit itself, more light-hearted than the LOTR. I loved Bilbo and the Riddle game with Gollum was awesome. I liked also how they gave all the dwarfs their own personalities as the book itself does not except for Thorin, Balin, Fili, and Kili. The rest not so much. Smaug was well done I thought. Again, I enjoyed the interaction between Bilbo and the dragon.

I have not heard of the TV show. When will it be on and will it be on HBO? Some other Network?

Thanks, Valtharr! It will be interesting to see what they do with the time period, much like Cubicle 7 they will have some latitude. Cheers

Re: OOC

I thought the Hobbit was pretty average for what it was.

It felt a bit slapdash, filled with kind of irrelevant bits that wasted time, and I was not a fan of the direction they took that made Bilbo and most of the Dwarfs feel a bit ancillary to what is (at least in concept) their story, along with lots of other little niggles here and there. It also had some moments with the style of humor that ruins serious scenes, which I really dislike.

However, that aside, I also recognize this is mostly because it wasn't given quite as much time as it needed to be written and developed properly like the Lord of the Rings, and the studio interfered quite a bit with it. It's still pretty good, all in all, and there are plenty of moments I love just that I feel it could have been better if given more time and love.

It didn't help that I could barely watch it since 48FPS really doesn't work for my eyes. I normally have some tracking issues (my eye can't move smoothly to track things in motion), so watching any high motion scene was an exercise in making my eyes hurt. :p

Almost forgot the shadow check.

09:19, Today: Asgrim rolled 12 using 1d20+2 with rolls of 10.  Shadow check DC12 (-4 for level = 8).

Re: OOC

in case it gets missed in my IC post, I'm hoping people can take a moment and endulge the introduction request made.  Perrin's introduction got skipped over completely/overlooked and I'd like not to see the same happen for Hummond.  It's likely a pain for the people who have been playing for a while, but for those of us who are new, it is what acts as our entry into the game and provides the player some information about the group of characters they are now going to be playing with.

Re: OOC

Sure thing!

I'm more than happy to do that - I play mostly to roleplay, not go through the mechanical challenges. Sometimes it gets skipped for brevity, I suppose, so I've gotten used to it, but I'll get right on that. :p

I'm as interested in the roleplaying as I am the rollplaying...and was somewhat disappointed with Perrin's entry into the game.  He appeared, none interacted with him, and bam, somehow he's adventuring with you lot lol.

Re: OOC

Loot-  So far we have found :

Copper Pennies x 20
Silver pieces x 10

I suggest we divide up the loot once the wagon has been completely searched, but at present dividing it 10 ways is pretty simple (if we include Hammond and Sadrion in the 10).

Salvaged weapons and armour can be dumped in the wagon to be sold at the right time. PCs can take what they want from the haul.

GM, can you list what we find in the wagon and on the bodies? Please include weapons, armour, food and equipment, valuables, and anything else of interest. Thanks.

Re: OOC

Does mithril conduct heat? It might be the worst material you could use for a frying pan.
