Re: Episode 1: Where have all the Heroes gone?
The Shade opens a Gate over the city, it looks much as it always has. Chicago has remained remarkably unchanged in the years it has existed. Despite, or perhaps because of, it's tendency to burn to the ground from time to time. Looking over and through the city, the lack of superheroes seems to have had a limited effect on the population. People still go to work, go out with their friends. There are still the occasional street-level crimes; a mugging, a carjacking. If he looks long enough, he can find someone doing something illegal. But no signs of anyone with powers.

Up on the roof, Sigrún laughs again. "Xuanwu was it? Has anyone ever told you that you are adorable?" She sighs, "Sarah and I met because she's an ornithologist, she studies birds. I'm sure you can guess why she was interested in me--" She is cut off as a bell sounds, her attention immediately going to the door as she stands, "Come on, someone just activated the transporter, we should go see what's happening." Sigrún then leads the other two back downstairs, just in time to see Gypsy vanish in a cloud of colored sparkles.

Gypsy steps into the booth, a moment later their vision goes all screwy. When they can again perceive the world they are standing on a much larger pad similar to the one they just left. The lights in the room are off initially, however they begin coming on as the station's systems detect Gypsy's presence.

Welcome to the Skybase.

Re: Episode 1: Where have all the Heroes gone?
Gypsy spends a moment to try and bring the connection back online between the Skybase and Chicago. Assuming it works they will radio back down, "Everything looks like it's still here. You should be good to come up." Then will leave the room and go looking for the main control room or any data access terminal.

[OOC: 12:59, Today: Gypsy rolled 10 using 3d6 with rolls of 3,3,4.  Computer Programming 14-.]

Mo'an Guuz:
At home, it was common for groups of boys to cajole an older pyro into a day at the beach. Once the pyro melted the sand they would race to grow their own crystal sets. My peers had an elaborate scoring system, with the time it would take to grow the set being modified by loudness, clarity, and facet aesthetics."

Skybreaker raises an eyebrow, "I didn't realize you weren't from Earth.  You'll have to tell me more about your people, world and what brought you here sometime."

"Now though," he frowns, "we should see if the others have found more than we have.  Looks like Sigrún was right about any important records being moved."

He'll head in search of the others, joining the women as they reach the transporter room.  Skybreaker tries not to let his nervousness for Gypsy's safety show as the group waits for any word from the hero.

Mo'an nods and says, "agreed."
As the two return to the others, Mo'an offers further explanation, "the truth is not always what it seems. I am from earth, but I am not from this one. There is so much talking, here, and so little communicating, that I often find I have not said enough to convey what I mean. I am learning not to rely on my true senses to understand what is within the hearts and minds of those around me. It is much more difficult than I expected it to be."

The city was as busy as he remembered it, but nothing obvious was evident. The Shade heard the teleporter activate, and closed his gate.

... time to find out if the station is still there ...

Re: Episode 1: Where have all the Heroes gone?
Sigrún arrives in the transporter room just in time to see Gypsy vanish. There are a tense few seconds before their voice comes over the radio. She sighs and relaxes and goes to the terminal, "It looks like the connection is coming back up, whatever he did over there seems to have fixed it. I think I can get video..." She taps at the system for a moment, then the image on the monitor becomes one of an apparently empty transporter room. "Or not, Gypsy we're not seeing you on the monitor."

Re: Episode 1: Where have all the Heroes gone?
Mo'an watches Sigrun push buttons and move levers, murmuring something about "excessive digital manipulation" as she obtains the video feed. At not seeing Gypsy, he says, "it is entirely possible this transporter machinery has been skewed, so that Gypsy has transported to another dimension, perhaps orbiting a different earth. It is also possible Gypsy needed to use the facilities after arrival, and is looking for the door with the anatomically appropriate stick figure on it."
It is entirely obvious Mo'an is not being humorous.

Gypsy's voice comes over the radio, "I can become invisible you know. I'm just looking around a little, trying to see if I can get started on the computers up here."

"I believe it is customary to use the correctly gendered facilities whether or not you are visible."
Mo'an walks towards the platform and says, "in any case, it would be wise to have more than one person in any given situation. We should transport someone else to the facility to join Gypsy."

Listening to Guuz's comments, The Shade begins an in-depth study of the teleport pad area, allowing his mind to retain an imprint of the location.

He chuckles a bit after hearing Guuz's allusion to Gypsy's possible "misuse" of the "gendered facilities".

In reply to Mo'an Guuz (msg # 102):

"I don't think that Gypsy he or she, is concerned about bathroom things. I think it is obvious that they are doing exactly what they say they are doing. I mean if normal astronauts can have self-contained waste facilities, I'm sure that Gypsy would have something better if she, he, or they needed to. That just makes sense. It also makes sense to have someone join them up there as we now know that there is a place up there, as soon as possible"

After committing the spot to memory, The Shade observes the active view screens.

"I agree with you. I believe Gypsy would be well served with support."

He approaches the teleportation pad, but remains two steps away. Looking at Transpower with a smile and a nod, he adds,

"After you."

Mo'an faces those moving to the pad, and says, "if you wish, I can supplement our current communications so we do not have to depend on electromagnetic phenomena. It would take little effort, but would return only an increase in redundancy."
Staring at the transport pad, he grimaces, "but this seems reliable, in spite of its construction. Truly, you would think at least one of the surfaces would glow while quiescent."

Gypsy:
Gypsy's voice comes over the radio, "I can become invisible you know. I'm just looking around a little, trying to see if I can get started on the computers up here."

Before stepping on the pad, Transpower asks, "Gypsy, is there air and gravity where you are now? Reason I ask is because someone has suggested that I follow you up there. In fact, I guess all the rest of us would need those thing to be there if we are truly going to be of any help there."

While waiting on Gypsy's answer, she looks at Sigrun and thinks. 'I'm sure that my Aunt Gunny would find you as fascinating as Faith obviously does. But I don't admire you for the same reasons that they do right? Only a blind person couldn't see that you Sigrun are almost divinely beautiful. But I also see that you are a strong woman, a proud warrior, and truly heroine. Because I want to be a woman like you, a heroine, that's why I admire you.'

Gypsy answers, "Yes, there's a full atmosphere and gravity here. It looks like they just went out for coffee, except all the lights are off." There is a slight pause, "In fact, it might be a good idea if everyone came up, this place is huge and I can't find a map."

With connectivity to Skybase restored, Skybreaker suggests to Photon, who's already working at a terminal, "Say, can you access the data cores on Skybase now?  Is there anything on the temporal shielding and why it was installed?"

Xuanwu had been muttering under her breath about the ridiculousness of having gendered toilet facilities in an organization that had aliens and the gender binary in general until she heard Gypsy mention a lack of maps.

"Perhaps there's a map or record of blueprints on the computers up there or down here?" She suggested. "I'm all for joining Gypsy if pressure and atmosphere is Earth normal, but I'd rather we didn't get lost."

Mo'an nods to Shade, "of course, if you would not resist I will forge a conduit between our will."
Maintaining eye contact with Shade, Mo'an attempts to communicate.
[Private to Narrator; The Shade: If Shade was a 'willing mind' the mind link would be successful and they will be able to converse without communicators. Of course, Mo'an's first thought to The Shade will be "Can you hear me now?"]

Transpower turned toward the warrior woman, "Sigrun, I'd bet you have more experience with the Skybase than any of the rest of us, would you like to be the next to go up and give Gypsy a wing or two?"

Quickly the Latina smiled and blushed while correcting herself "Um sorry... I mean a hand or two with getting things going up there."

Re: Episode 1: Where have all the Heroes gone?
The Shade heard Guuz in his mind. It was an unusual experience, but not entirely new to him. In the course of his work as The Shade, he had been mind controlled, given illusions, and twice before had a "mental concourse" such as this one arranged for him.

Each one was different, in their own subtle ways. As he pondered this new way of "linking minds", he stepped on to the teleportation pad while giving a Guuz a thumbs up and a thought.

"Loud and Clear, Mo'an".

Out loud, he spoke,

"Gypsy, I am ready for transport. I shall begin the sequence... now."

The Shade activated the teleportation equipment... and waited for the scenery to change. Inside his own mind, he chuckled a bit.

Mo'an watches The Shade transport away, then says, "excellent. His eardrums are completely intact, no blood whatsover, and I can still hear him. I wasn't sure how the link would function during transport, but it appears to suffer no ill effects."
"If anyone else wishes me to do so, I can add you to the mental conduit. If no one else desires to do so, I am prepared to transport."
Standing by the transport pad, Mo'an waits for the other to decide what they wish to do.

Re: Episode 1: Where have all the Heroes gone?
One by one each of the heroes steps into the pad and vanishes in a sparkle of light. Sigrún smiles at the two ladies as she operates the controls, "I'll be watching from down here. I think it's best if someone stays here and keeps the lights on. Plus I'm a little worried that what ever happened didn't get all the superpowered people, and that some of us left aren't the 'hero' type."

Your vision fades, and you find yourself somewhere else.

To Be Continued.
