Re: Into the Black Unknown: OoC

We don't have the Renown for the Signum, I don't think. We're Respected but that requires Distinguished. Moreover, with the casualties among our Nechanicus Adapts and the limited resources of Undoubted Benefit there may not be one available.

Noctis Expanse, is there a Signum and Signum Links in our stores and can we Requisition them?

Re: Into the Black Unknown: OoC

Oh, shoot.  I keep mixing up the Renown tiers, thank you for the correction.

Yeah, definitely going Heavy Flamer then.   Nothing takes ork nobs out of a fight quite like burning burning Promethium, a -20 Agility test and a Willpower test that is not fear-based.

Let's see what Nocturn expanse has to say about availability. We do have the acting Company Captain with us...

Re: Into the Black Unknown: OoC

Wasn't there a rule you could take stuff of higher renown for a higher price?

Also maybe take some backup weapon for the situation where the flamer isn't desirable? We are doing a fuel run after all. Plasma gun or some such maybe?

Re: Into the Black Unknown: OoC

I heard it was reactor fuel.   That usually means MASSIVELY shielded,  plasma- inducing compounds in coffin-sized vessels that (once opened) are fed into the engine by a drugged-up sacrificial crew (or servitors) who get sealed into the containment as their radioactive cargo cooks their flesh.   A little Promethium is going to be less hazardous than high- caliber bolter rounds.

If it doesn't look like we can take a Signum, I can take an Immolation Rifle from Rites of Battle (which specifically DOESN'T light things on fire or damage inorganic materials).

In reply to Xander (msg # 75):

I just assumed it was a little GM hand waving for this one, simplifying what theoretically should be a massive undertaking requiring specialized docking facilities or ships.

In reply to Xander (msg # 75):

Now that your back, shouldn't you take the Heavy Bolter with it being standard issue for you (and you probably have abilities that make you more effective with it)? I can grab the immolation rifle and some other bits & pieces, as well as remembering my special issue bolt clip.

Re: Into the Black Unknown: OoC

I don't really get abilities to enhance the heavy bolter until Rank 4.  Right now,  with his Salamander heritage, Xander is a BEAST with a heavy flamer (3d5+7 Horde Damage per attack) and can pick off anything farther away with his bolt pistol.

Heavy bolter has more range, but hits less (Only inflicting #Hits+1d5+1 to hordes)  and just doesn't have enough punch to be worth it against enemies that are largely immune to suppression (like Orks and Tyranids).  Orks also don't build long straight hallways in near orderly lines; everything is either cavernous or chaotically cramped, unless it's looted, so range wouldn't be worth much.

If we were up against Eldar or Tau, I'd totally agree that it's better, as volume-of-fire trumps dodge/Shield effects any day.

Re: Into the Black Unknown: OoC

Unfortunately a Signum is too advanced for your high school dropout Tech priest. Furthermore, you don't have one available.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)

If you would like, I can spec the next adventure to feature one as a reward.

Re: Into the Black Unknown: OoC

Xander, grab a reload or two for the Heavy Flamer.

Other than my Kraken Rounds, we don't have anything to penetrate heavy armor, do we?

If you have Target Selection (available at Rank 3) the Heavy Bolter is much more practical because you can fire into melee which means the Assault Marines can do their bloody work at the same time. While you can't do as much damage directly, the Squad can do considerably more total damage to both hordes and point targets. Another thought about the Heavy Bolter is that Tearing allows you what is essentially a free reroll of damage against point targets.

Tangentially related, am I wrong for wanting a Reaper Autocannon, like in the good old Legion days?

Someone is spouting heretical thoughts.

And Keep that flamer its a nasty little beast it seems.

Maybe just put the remaining points into melta bombs? Simple enough to use and it might help in a pinch.

In reply to Kubra (msg # 82):

That's a really good point, especially considering our team.  My current strategy, if allies are in melee and there are no other targets, is to draw my flaming chainsword and join them.

I second the motion for Melta Bombs.  Krak grenades should suffice against most problems,  but if we really need something to get wrecked that's the way to go.

I should tell you the ork horde's size.

In reply to Xander (msg # 88):

Nah, I don't mind paying the Req for it. It seems a bit gamey otherwise.

Speaking of Req, kind of. I'm also grabbing a clip of Hellfire bolts as my Tactical mehren freebie.

At least the Trukk is a fairly big target.   You might still clip a wheel well, or at the very least between the legs of one of the orks marching by.

Re: Into the Black Unknown: OoC

If Kyros started having second thoughts:

As the Assault Marine Kyros makes it a priority to be first out of the Pod, weapons drawn.  Even as the vile Xenos thing spoke he fired his jetpack and was flying headlong into the thick horde of green filth, his weapons becoming drenched in gore with his first pass.

+Engaging the Xenos Brothers.  Let the Dragons Ravage them.+ he adds, almost an after thought as he lays into the Orks, reaping a heavy toll.

'Wait...they were just sitting here in the middle of space.  I mean sure, they're Xenos, and we're supposed to hate them.  But were they doing anything wrong?  We blasted into the Hulk with a Drop Pod rigged with explosives and here I am, flying through them, lopping off heads and limbs...Are we...have we become the bad guys?'
