Into the Black Unknown: OoC

Welcome to our new beginning.

In this thread, we will discuss the out-of-character matters relevant to the Rogue Crusade. I will explain the options available to you after you have a chance to explore the new game in-character.

You will notice that, as we are now inhabiting a new region, the GM's character name has been changed to

The Noctis Expanse.

Great imagine it changed to Eye of Terror. That would be a whole different book ;-)

This seems like one of those foundational events that goes on to establish a great big of Chapter character.

Black Dragons are headed by a Council of Sergeants, still executing the Captain's order 10,000 years later.

So we're finally here. After playing pregenerated modules and building our characters, we've finally reached the point where you are off the rails.

There are four different types of adventure you can indulge in now.
First, the 'Dark Heresy' style adventure. Use the skills of interaction, investigation, and knowledge to uncover mysteries.
Second, the 'Rogue Trader' style adventure. Engage in various bizarre profit-seeking shenanigans, similar to a D&D adventure campaign.
Third, the 'Only War' style adventure. Participate in larger-scale conflicts between factions, mostly of low tech levels. Could also call this the 'Fantasy battle tourist' missions.
Finally, Space Hulk. Throw reason to the wind and engage in bloody battles against a variety of foes.

As you learned from your Master of Arms, there are certain limits on your current armamant. You can expand your arsenel by making contacts with suppliers and by augmenting your ship's production facilities. Once these are available, spend Requisition to add it to your current wargear. This represents the armoury diverting its energy to your specific instructions; they only have so many staff, and preparing more potent gear takes more time and resources.

From the looks of it start with the hulk to get something to trade and thne go RT style on that planet to see we can get back on our feet.

The Only war style seems like a way to secure recruits once we come to the conclusion we are unable to escape the sector and need to build up the legion again from scratch.

And DH is surely rearing its head when mongering favors.

What are your thoughts folks?

At the minute mine are:

Space Hulk to get fuel for the ship.

Hive World for food, recruits and possibly manufacturing, depending on what we find there.

Feudal World possibly for recruits and food.

The mystery place I can only think may have a potential recruit. God knows what else.

I think the Space Hulk first, if we go to the order of needs I think fuel is likely most important.

I think our best bets are the Hulk and the Astropath.

From an in-game strategic standpoint, the Hive world is a potential long, drawn out hassle. If we get bogged down for years and the rest of the fleet and Chapter get destroyed, we, as the remnants, end up permanently understrength.

Without the resources to makes Astartes, recruits are only going to be useful as crew and serfs. Making contact with the feudal world might not be a bad plan after we hit the Hulk and the Astropath. Food, crew and a place to come back to later use a base in the Noctis Expanse. Maybe even collect the rest of the fleet and base the Chapter here.

Hope I'm not being redundant here, but Requisition will work as before then?

What kind of transport assets are available? I assume basic cargo shuttles, but what about assault rams, drop pods, Thunderhawks and boarding torpedoes? Does Undoubted Benefit have teleporters and do we have access to beacons?

Typically homing beacons are associated with Terminator suits but anyone can use them.

And what about the Captain's Terminator armor? Can we commandere it while he's in suspended animation?

You have access to Thunderhawks and drop-pods for deployment.

Your ship has a teleportarium, but it is offline. Your Mechanicus detachment does not have the expertise to repair it.

The captain's terminator armour was damaged, and you currently do not have the capacity to repair it. Further, your surviving Mechanicus people are not advanced enough to activate Tactical Dreadnaught armour.

There may be more Terminator armour somewhere in the ship, but in the chaos the ship's inventory has become hopelessly disorganized. They will dig it out and offer it to you for use as they find it.

Re: Into the Black Unknown: OoC

So sitting on that sweet pile of xp and still having one psy power to pick. What do you guys think of picking up possibility shield. It gives me and pr (4) others a +10 on one roll per turn. It just costs me a half action but i think its a small price to pay to give us all a +10 at the start of every scene. Thoughts?

We also got to pick a leader for the mission. I think our tech marine is the best choice looking at the nature of the mission.

Re: Into the Black Unknown: OoC

Stacking the bonuses is a good thing, so yeah I'd say so.  And the Techmarine leading is a good idea for this mission.  Plus Techies have access to unique oaths.
