I think I'm out on Only War - just can't see anything cool down that road from here.

Re: Silence of the Warp: OoC

I like BC. The Covenants mechanic means generating stuff to to is easy. I played in 2 of Arkio's BC games and enjoyed them both.

I can play a Marine or run-of-the-mill heretic pretty happily.

Id greatly prefer BC. I got all the ones pre OW but Once i went BC i never really needed to go for another.

Im game for a BC game. As long as we don't go mixing mortals and marines. I never seen that work well.

Has anyone tried the new Wrath and Glory system?

Re: Silence of the Warp: OoC

I bought it and read it, but haven't tried it.  It's fully up to date on the 40k story line, but I have to say that I don't care too much for dice pool systems with low dies, like d6s, which is what this uses.  The rules just didn't cut it for me.

In reply to Kyros (msg # 771):

I concur with Kyros - I played once. One, I almost seized - there were fucking Harlequin on my ship - my IG ass wanted BAD to shoot them. A lot. They loaned me a shuri-cat so I kind of cooled out though.

Two, it lacks the grit we associate with 40K. There's very little risk to PC's. My Cadian survivor LongLased a Chaos Space Marine and dropped him. The mechanics are not awful, they just don't enforce (or support) the setting's traditional tone. It's a modern gaming conceit that in places works well, but Grimdark is not what Wrath and Glory portrays.

For anyone who's played 7th Sea, it plays a bit like that. I like 7th Sea but it's specifically NOT 40K.

Re: Silence of the Warp: OoC

If we go BC, would we want marines or heretics?  As marines it would make a nice  counter to what we're doing.  As heretics, we'd have a lot to aspire to.  I wouldn't suggest using the archetypes in the Tome books, as they are more advanced.  I'd want to start with default beginners either way, heretics or marines.

Maybe we should start that game and discuss its matters there. I'm not going to close this one down.

Youre botherd by us killing time while waiting for your update boss? I mean Kestyr who proposed to run an OW game hasn't really agreed on running BC after all.

Re: Silence of the Warp: OoC

I don't have any BC books so I wouldn't be joining a game for that.

IC, I'm just waiting to hear if I can tell that Arkio's body is doing something...untoward, or if I should keep shootin' at the baddies outside.

I suppose not.

His body screamed a bit and then threw up. He appears to be back in control of it now. Also, every human from miles around is having terrible nightmares.

Glad to hear it, for the record that wasn't something I was thinking of when I suggested another game. Only that it's rare to find a good, reliable group in pbp so we should make the most of it.

Re: Silence of the Warp: OoC

Just finished The Red Tithe, a Carcharadons novel.  Good stuff, bloody as Hell.  Space sharks versus Night Lords battling on a prison planet.

Anyway, with BC, what do you favor?  Chaos Marines or mortal Heretics?  An idea I was thinking (either way) is that they are insurgents cut off from a larger warband and basically given leave to do whatever until they can make contact again.  Gives them purpose, but also freedom to pursue their ambitions.

Re: Silence of the Warp: OoC

Well, let's take a tally of 40k games we do have, might have needed to do that in the first place.

I have every 40k book and game line that came from Fantasy Flight, but haven't read them all.  I also have the main book for Wrath and Glory.

Would it have to be a 40k book?

Regarding the IC action...is there a way to provide an assist on the Drive check?  Aside from a Charm check to Inspire?

Re: Silence of the Warp: OoC

You could make an argument for using Drive to aid me by watching the sides on the narrow bridge.

As for books, I own all of Deathwatch and Black Crusade and most of Rogue Trader and the first edition of Dark Heresy. I do own the beta rules for OW as well. I have the free player guide for Wrath and Glory.
