Behind the Gellar Field

The ship is 3/4 sunk into bile. It was grabbed by an enormous space tentacle and thrown in here. The reactor is in need of some serious prayers.

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

I feel you on the Heavy Flamer thirst.  Flame weapons leave something to be desired in terms of range, but there's nothing better at destroying hordes.  Salamanders get access to a special relic weapon that has a whopping 40m range and terrifies its victims.   With the right talents, it can deal (40m/4= 10) hits, plus 1d5 for being a flame weapon, plus 1d5 for Unrelenting Devestation, plus ANOTHER 1d5 for Cleanse and Purify, for a total of 13 to 25 magnitude damage.  If you include Storm of Iron, that's 26 to 50 magnitude damage off of a single attack.

That said, as of now I can do about 10-22 mag-damage with a heavy flamer which is pretty good for just Rank 2.

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

And for Nids there's the always fun Hellfire Flamer. May not pack the punch of a heavy but ignoring natural armour lets you take it to the heavy creatures a bit easier.

Also, who is considered "must rescue" and expendable?

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

Only the one imperial officer is considered high value Target. The others are expendable. To be honest, they're probably less valuable than the Stormtroopers, and the Stormtroopers were expecting this to be a suicide mission for them.

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

The way i see it we are on a suicide mission. The extra bodies are a great asset to keep the hordes at bay. Once we have completed the main objective and if then we have enough survivors Marine or otherwise we can deal with it at that point. The teleport homer for now is just a morale boost for those who might need it. ;-)

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

One thing that can save time and dice rolls Zayn (and anyone else that chews through hoards) if you can't fail to damage the hoard even if you roll a 1 for damage (once penetration and minimum damage is figured out) then just count the hits landed.  Kyros is a hoard killer, all I do is count how many DOS per swing, and each hit is 1 magnitude of hoard damage.  No one is should be able to hit a gaunt and not cause at least one wound.

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

For open ground combat, yeah.   A situation like what is happening right now means no cover bonus to armor.   If we're at enough range or in broken terrain,  that might make it questionable.

On the subject of melee combat,  does anyone know if Promethean Blessing gains the additional horde damage from Cleanse and Purify talent, or is it just the (-20 to flame effect tests)?

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

All the hordes are gone. There are two genestealers that you know of. One of them is lurking right next to kubra near the entrance you came in at. The other one is on the ship, making eyes at your salamander friend.

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

MRB:
Force Dome
Action: Full
Opposed: No
Range: 5m x PR radius
Sustained: Yes
Description: Summoning up a shimmering field of force, the Librarian fashions a shell around himself and nearby allies. The shell is a sphere extending up to the radius around, above, and below the Librarian and protecting him and any within it. The shell provides 2 AP x PR against all kinds of ranged attacks or hazardous environmental effects (this additional protection stacks with any worn Armour), even trapping air and water within it. However, it does not stop melee attacks or creatures (friend or foe) that may pass through it without restriction.

Lets drag this here. As i read it everything in the bubble now has an additional +14 Armor vs Ranged attacks. Or anything shooting from the outside in? As written i'f say anything in it which is a double edged sword if used in melee situations where we got mad lad gunemn around.

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

If you feel like pushing the power and dealing with psychic phenomena, sure.  It's great if a group of warriors or a hive tyrant show up to blast us, but otherwise it's not worth the automatic phenomena when facing termagaunts and the like.  If you cast it unfettered you still get a respectable +8 AP from the power in a 20m radius, but run less risk of harming allies.  Also,  because the dome is a shell and not a field if effect, having a smaller radius is actually more useful in tight passageways where enemies might ambush us so close that a guaranteed +4  armor in a 10m radius might be more useful than a +14 that enemies just walk past.

Another nifty thing to note it's the fact that it traps air and water,  making it an effective escape pod in a pinch.   If we need to,  we could literally just strap the VIP to the librarians chest and tie the rest of us together and wait for a shuttle to pick us up.

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

The last bit is why i pushed it. We got  the oath that gives you guys +10 ws and BS vs Nids and i can reroll phenomena. So if i roll under 75 its good to go.  Else i can reroll.

Now we got a bubble of 35 meter that protects us against the enviorment. And being inside a digestive tract does sound like we are in an enviornment we want to protect against.

It's in an inactive state right now. You could reactivate it but other parts of the ship are in bad states and might cause problems.

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

I figured if we could get it started we'd just have to disable any safeties that are in place and overload it. Though we'd have to stay long enough to make sure the nids don't dmg it enough to disable it.

Honestly the hardest part about getting this reactor to detonate would be getting far enough away from it once it is engaged.

Re: Behind the Gellar Field

We got our way out already? Or do we need to get back the way we came? Not sure we got to much time to waste inside a creatures digestive system. It might send us endless hordes on our ass if we fuck around to much with it and unsure how big the ship is but on average we are talking kilometers of tunnels filled with bile isnt it? I say we pull the VIP out and hope the reactor goes when the bile destroys it. But then this room might be made to sustain it and we'll just get a massive burp.

Just have the 'new' guys take their VIP out and then go to the exit if Kurba found one.
