Hello! Read Me First...

Newbie GM here looking to learn/hone my skills with GURPS 4th ed.

Here's the General outline:

I want to start things out very simple for the sake of my sanity and that of any prospective players.

Having said that, I would highly prefer that we begin play by using GURPS Lite 4th Edition. I will post the link where you can go and download this for free (along with the character sheet)

The other caveat of this game is A LOT of player input. I don't know how it will work, but while this game is being set up, I would love it if any interested players weigh in with ideas of what they would like to see in a game, and I'll see if I can weave it into something cohesive.

So right now, you're standing in a totally white, empty space. It will be your job to fill it in with the broad strokes, and I'll do my best to fill in the details.

This applies to player races too. Come up with something original and creative. Give me ideas of what your people look like, how they act, what kind of environment they live in, etc.

I offer no promises to how well this will work, but as a player, I dislike being pigeon-holed into a certain role or idea. This game will be about creative room for our imaginations to come up with something unique and fun for everyone to play in.

Also, I'm still learning everything this website has to offer...  so many features. But, I promise I learn quickly.

Thank you for your interest, there will be much more to come.

Additional Comments

I would like to add that as things are written down in posts, by me, they become canon. I'm sure it will take a while for players to arrive, if they do at all, and I won't stop the world-building in the meantime.

The reason for this is: I don't want to put a ton of time into making maps, coming up with names of people and towns, just to have it all go to waste when someone comes along and says: "Nah, let's do this instead..."

Thank you for understanding, and never fear, there are WORLDS out there to explore.

The Next Step

The next thing you should consider is heading over to the "Playable Races" thread to see what your options are.

More designing is going to happen in this world, so a dwarf isn't necessarily a 'dwarf' as we all know and love them.

Same goes for the other 'familiar races'. Someday I will have art posted showing everyone what each race looks like.

For the time being just operate on the fact that the human is really the only race you are familiar with here.

Example:

Dwarves in my world are short-statured and hairy. They are also semi-quadrupedal. The old clans that still live in the mountains are fairly primitive, but still clever artisans.

When a dwarf drops down to all fours, you have no doubt they are serious, and someone is about to have their asses handed to them.

Halflings resemble human-faced monkeys, smaller than humans. Incredibly fast and agile, a halfling monk can hold their own against any foe that underestimates them.

The Next Step

I just wanted to put a little update here.

It's been a while since I've started this game and now I'm confident enough to upgrade my GMing skills from "complete newbie", to "beginner".

The game, with the exception of my several long absences, has been great. For me at least. There seems to be a lot of interesting things going on and I'm looking forward to much more.

I'd especially like to thank my current players. You guys rock! And to new players, I hope you find some enjoyment here too.

Have fun...
