Dungeon master:
I am considering grouping you water folk and giving you a water themed adventure, so if anyone wants to get in on that tell me. Or if you hate that idea tell me. Especially Gale and Jerrick considering you are the main ones I have in mind there.

I like it. Let us sail the great oceans!

I'll be able to get a character sheet up tomorrow and be at a higher posting frequency. Monday's are my game nights in RL so it's hard to sneak away and get a post in.

Because I like tables, and seemed to have missed quite a bit of discussion (curse you timezone difference!), I tried to summarize things.

Valica BlackwindBarbarianNewcomer to the town - seeking love
ZadiBardWanderedCurios

Note - newcomers just mean they have spent few years in the town, but have been raised elsewhere. There was more than enough time for forming relationships with other characters.

Question, mostly for GM, would you like to have two groups (one land, one water, or two land), or three (two land, and one water)?

Re: OOC
P.S.

Silanar's father is the town blacksmith - Draco Falone, and he's definitely disappointed with the behavior of his son.

Connection wise, Sil was sure to spar with anyone willing (and skilled enough). While not narcissistic, he's definitely self-centric and seeks attention. It's up to all of you whether you tolerate it, or not. Either way, we can work out some connection or friction details.

Valica, if they are no other takes, would you consider her going after Sil (he is dashing and confident after all, maybe even somewhat good looking), but he's not yet sure about how he feels? A bit of a twist on the guy trying to win over a girl.

Marlo, as Sil is quite social, they might venture out and he'll help the gnome deal with the people, while not mining being the butt of his pranks, as long as they are in public (there is no such things as bad publicity ;) ).

Re: OOC
I was going to go with 3, but here is my concern there. I have a group of 6 which is doing fine. Then I would end up with the water people. Then the other group would be basically all fighters if I am reading it correctly.

Warriors
Celeste Stormwind
Ravrok Greytoe
Silanar Salindor

Curios
Esmerelda
Khaaven Skullsplitter
Marlo Rumbuckle
Val Brightseeker
Valica Blackwind
Zadi

Water people
Gale
Jerrick Smythe
Mictlan

So, I end up with 2 groups of 3 in which one has no melee people and one is all melee people. It seems wise to merge those two. Then I get two groups of 6 who are balanced to some degree. That isn't to say that it couldn't be done the other way and each group would just have to be aware of where their weaknesses are. Merging them means that open water would be less of a thing for the group, but that idea was put out before I knew how the groups were going to form up. I can still do some aquatic stuff and some land stuff, but it just means making sure a good balance is struck there. Spending huge period time on the waters would leave our more armored people in a lerch but those with skills relating to the waters can still get their times to shine. I favor this idea in that it insures that I do not end up killing one or both groups because I threw something at them that they didn't have the tools to handle.

Re: OOC
Appreciate the thought Sil, but I think the big guy would be heart broken :-)

For what it's worth, I'd definitely merge the two small groups as you say, DM. Aside from Celeste and likely Ravrok not doing well with water adventures due to heavy armor, you're pretty much set as a group. And I'd say three groups of four is too small, given attrition rates.

Re: OOC
Sounds good GM. So we should assume that people inside each group interacted more with each other than the other. Will we be geographically separated (two towns that trade with each other, so we know off one another), or not? Either way, may I suggest separate OOC topics for each group to do their planning/discussing?

Re: OOC
That is my next step. I just wanted to make sure people were cool with their groups. This thread will continue to exist if for no other reason than allowing people to remain friends and deal with attrition if it gets bad enough. So, keep an eye out for access to a new group and the threads to pop up. I'm currently working on responses some PMs, but I will make an effort to get those up. I would suggest that it would be better if you interacted more with your own group previously in character. They do not have to be separate towns, but it wouldn't be a bad idea either. Trade relations and emigration between makes sense though.

Same here. Aquatic adventure or otherwise Jerrick is a rather handy skill monkey. He's starting off as a rogue and will eventually transition to a bard.

Re: OOC
Some of you have been keeping me in the loop on character creation and/or sent me a finished sheet. Others I am just learning about by looking at the updates they make to their character sheets. You all also seem to be making progress on forming connections and getting things lined up for starting. I do not wish to interrupt those processes nor do I wish to leave a group who feels they have done enough hanging and just fiddling with details to kill time while they wait for me to do my job. So, if you all could give me an indication as to when you feel you're ready, within your group threads, I will either pop up the first post in your game thread or initiate a short conversation about how we are starting things.

Also, I mentioned rewards for forming connections. You will get 5 xp for each person you are connected to in your groups that means you can get 25 xp if you form connections with all of your people. Also, start thinking about magic items you might want. It would generally be nice if you were getting things you at least sort of liked when I handed out treasure instead of looks of disappointment as I generate items that just get tossed in a closet somewhere because they aren't worth carrying around. It will still happen as it can be fun to watch people find clever uses for them or cultivate connections with people who might trade them for things you want. But you all should generally feel rewarded when the treasures come.

Re: OOC
Questions two, which are probably of general interest:
1. Do we use any specific pantheon, or can we draw from which we like? I know Celeste has gone with Fearun's
2. How much history/connections should/may we put into character's description? On one hand, it's generally well known, and something we might want to reference from time to time, but on the other, it might cause a bit of clattering, and cause some OOC leakage into the play

Re: OOC
I would generally put anything you don't want others to see in your scratch pad, or if you don't mind me seeing it, as a note below your character sheet. If it is reasonably well known, you are free to put it in your description. The other way to do it is to make clear note of who does or does not know it and I will keep an eye out for people using the information. I can't police people's thoughts though, so there is a risk there.

As for gods. This is the answer I gave when I was first asked the question:

quote:
If you want any given god to exist you can assume that they do to someone. Gods do not generally seem to act outside of their followers. Clerics and the like get power from them and may even have two way conversations with them, but nothing that anyone could solidly confirm was the god doing something directly as opposed to clerics and the like just wielding some sort of faith based magic or being crazy. Everyone has stories and legends about various gods doing various things, but solid proof is hard to come by in any world especially when you have magic and monsters. The old question of how one tells the difference between a powerful demon and a god and all that.

Your gods may well be real, but proving that is really hard when people can fake a lot of stuff with magic. If you have a sure fire test for godhood, you can eliminate some of the frauds, but finding a fraud doesn't prove that the god does not exist. And anyone who passed your test could, to all the skeptics, could just be using more powerful magics to fool you.

Re: OOC
I will admit to some concern on my part. I hope that it is nothing too troubling in the long term. Which is to say that I hope everything is or will turn out to be okay. I have no wish to pry, but I generally wish well for the lot of you. I am glad to see your return. There isn't a whole lot to get caught up on. I have just been working on trying to get things set up. I have the opening post ready, but that does mean you all can't work on connections or you sheets if you all are still considering options.

My apologies for being absent. I'm afraid I need to withdraw from the game so as not to hold any of you back.

Because relationships were made, perhaps Jerrick can be made into an NPC. But of course it is all up to you GM.

Again, sorry to exit so suddenly. I wish all the best in your adventures.
