Launch day: Aksa Tikkanen

Aksa stood back up after having taken a knee to allow a visitor to snap a picture of her with her two small children. Waving goodbye with a cheerful smile she put her  sunglasses back on and retreated under the wing of her VF, and to the shade from the afternoon sun that it offered.

Her sleeves were rolled up and her flight-suit top zipped down as far as regulations allowed in an effort to fight the heat. Sure, the folks on this island thought it was nice and cool; but for a native Laplander, the 19°C was downright balmy compared to the -10°C February's she was used to back home.

Re-hydrating with another bottle of water from a small cooler nestled in the shade next to the port main-wheel she applies another coat of sunscreen to her arms, face, and neck. It also didn't help that she was a bit sore and she rubbed the small of her back as she worked a kink out.

"Oi, Aksa; still knackered from last night?"
Came the chipper voice from an approaching female pilot.

Aksa waved and nodded. "A bit." 'Last Night' had started off as a 'girls night out' between her and a pair of other pilots, Flt Lt. Oxton: RAAF, and Lieutenant de vaisseau Guillard: l'Aéro, and ended up a 'girls night in' after a few drinks; well, more then a few drinks.

"Was quite the romp that." Oxton smirked dryly causing Aksa to flush slightly by way of agreement.

"It was."
Aksa replied.

"Well, I have to head back. Once the SDF buggers off things should calm down, if you're free next weekend, we should hit the Beach Club again."

"That would be nice. I'd love to." Aksa smiled.

"Right then, cheers!" Oxton replied with a wave as she departed.

"Heeey miss pilot?! Are those real missiles? Tommy says they are and I said nu-uh..." Came the insistent question of a young kid. Laughing softly Aksa zipped up her top a bit and set about the answer.

As Aksa answers the question a really big ugly dude wearing an old nearly worn out green tee-shirt with a military unit crest the left side of the chest. His paints are woodland green camouflage utilities which have been washed so many times they look like 'snow cammies'. To top it off he is wearing  a pair of well worn steel toed constriction boots. He is holding a brown paper bag which had a bottle in it. The bottle probably contains alcohol. How he got it past the gate is a mystery since the MP's were not allowing alcohol within the gates and the only thing being sold was beer. A number of US military themed tattoo adorne the man's exposed and tanned arms.

Unlike the majority of men how had been by the static display today instead of admiring Aksa's curves the ugly dude is admiring the curves of the FRS.1J on static display. "So this one was built by the limey's?"

Aksa, as a Finn, respects affection towards alcohol and is nonplussed.

"Good eye." She remarks. "Yes, it was." She confirms. "In all mechanical respects, there is no difference between this and the one's made by the Americans and Russians." She offers. "If you have any questions about the platform, I'll do my best to answer them."

“Sorry sir, that’s classified. I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you. “ She says with a smile. The sheer impossibility of making good on that ‘promise’ was laughable to the point of ridiculous.

"But, what I can say..."
She continues, and then gives a scrubbed/declassified explanation of what the armor is capable of. Since the fellows shirt and bearing lends her to suspect him to be ex-military, she doesn't bother with the 'civvie translations' and talks frankly one soldier to one ex-soldier.

Aksa's flight suit has the Finnish Flag on the left hand shoulder under which is her rank insignia; she bears the crest of HävLLv 11 over her left breast and her pilot wings over her right.

Vance laugh's at the Northern European woman's joke and listens intently (nodding every once in a while) as she explains the capabilities of the armor. When she's done he makes a statement. "So twenty five mike mike might piss you off." He waves a hand at any attempt to respond. "Naw you don't need to answer. I just hope you fuck up Eee Tee when he shows up looking for his ship."

The big ugly guy walks up off and can be heard muttering something. "There has got to be a wet t-shirt contest around here."

Aksa watches the man mountain leave and whispers under her breath. "Minä myös." (Me too.) regards his commend about the SDF-1's original owners.

As a matter of course, she tidy's up her area, and does a walk around her bird, just to make sure no one has left an empty bottle or other trash on the wing, in the engine exhaust, or intakes. She snickers to herself, she never really understood the need for kids, or adults for that matter, to stick their heads into the tailpipes of military aircraft...she just wished they'd remember not to leave anything behind more often.

Seeing that there was a break in the crowd, she ducks under the plane and pulls out half a sandwich of roast reindeer with crisp lettuce and lingonberry jam from the cooler.

Once done with her snack she turns to any new visitor(s) to the display to greet them.

Launch day: Aksa Tikkanen

The days events continue.....

When it happens only a few people on the airfield (military and civilian alike) see it at first. The bow of the SDF-1 Macross splits and begins to glow. The air is then filled with a massive amount of static for several seconds before a massive energy blast erupts from  he  bow of the SDF-1 Macross. The energy blast travels over a portion of Macross city and then vaporizes a portion of the hilly part of the island.

Where there was once hill and spectators watching the air show there is now nothing and a section of Macross city is now considered beach front property.

Air raid sirens begins to sound. Not having been precluded by a 'This is not a drill' message in several languages causes pandemonium to breaks out among the civilians. The last time such sirens were activated it is wasn't a drill was back in 2005 when the island had a much smaller population.

The military personnel on the other hand begin to head towards their assigned location/duty in the event of an attack.

Aksa's assigned location during an attack is on the other side of the airfield 1 kilometer away on the other side of the massive  SDF-1 where the rest of the squadron has its veritech's parked.

OOC: Make a perception roll. Get a 12 or higher and you take notice of the SDF-1's bow splitting open. Fail and well you of course notice the static and subsequent energy blast.

Aksa doesn't notice the bow splitting as she is talking with a small child at the time. As the static builds she turns to her plane, wondering if some sort of electrical short is taking place...but that can't be, the plane is shut down.

The child pointing and exclaiming "Ooo lookit lookit!!" Brings her attention to the forward portion of the SDF-1 with lightning bolts of energy cross crossing between a now split fore-section. This...this can't be part of the show. Can it? She wonders incredulously.

The massive energy blast stuns her and she manages to maintain her footing despite the over-pressure.

"PERKELE!" She exclaims in shock as the dust settles revealing the area wiped off the face of the map.

She regains herself and then gently nudges to kid to his parents. "You have to go! Get to the nearest air-raid shelter!" She says as calmly as she can manage and points towards the closest shelter. "Go! NOW!" She adds more forcefully as they pause in panic. Following her urgent prodding they hustle off. She closes up her plane, then books it to her duty location leaving a long string of Finnish profanity in her wake.

(At Spd 28 (560 yards per minute) it will take her little less than 2 minutes to get there, (maybe 3 factoring dodging and weaving in and out of fleeing civilians.)

Aksa stops in her tracks, looks around, then, ushers the child back to her plane.

"Come now child, don't cry, lets see if we can't find your parents. Ok?" She says soothingly. "Whats your name sweetie. I'm Aksa Tikkanen."

She seats the child atop the cockpit ladder to keep her out from underfoot, so she can look for her folks, and, her folks can see her better should they be in line of sight.

She joins the girl up top and stands on the 'step' areas over the intake and looks over the situation. What a shit show this is... she mutters inwardly.

She pulls out her Nokia and sends a group text to her squadron mates. Crisis 101 phone and cell signals will be all kinds of crap, texts have a better chance of getting thru.

TXT: "I'm at my static display. Unable to get back until this crowd thins."

She looks for other military around her and if she can get there attention (waves, sharp whistles, 'HEY YOU! etc.), beckons them over to rally on her. Her thinking now is crowd control. There may be more lost children out there, and possibly hurt adults caught in the stampede. She intends to set up a collection point between her and the next closest plane for lost and wounded. To that end she'll need manpower to cordon off a perimeter and then to get the hurt and lost into it.

That is her initial plan of action. She figures, since it is currently near impossible to get across the airfield on foot, best to help out here, then, once it thins enough, rescue vehicles can get in and get the hurt out at the same time the ordinance folks and plane handlers can cart in APU's, Missiles, and Pods for the aircraft. In any case right now, the planes are stuck.

She nods at the trio. "We need to set up a cordon here, between this aircraft, and that one." She points. "For hurt civilians and unaccompanied children." She assumes that they speak English because most everyone on the island does to some degree.

"And I need one of you to go and find some more manpower as well."

She will watch them to see their reactions to her orders. Also, are they officers, enlisted, and if she can determine, what branch.

The soldier who gave orders then looks at Aksa and speaks in broken English. "Find hurt people, bring here yes. What is crod ron?"

"Cordon...secure area. Around here." She says and makes a circle motion with her arms.

Aksa sends another text to her squadron. As she takes a look over the crowd to see if it has thinned any.

TXT: Still at static display, can't get to you until crowd thins. Have set up collection point for hurt civilians. Have two souls, 1 child, female, no injuries; 1 adult, female, with injured leg(s).

She also sends a text to the LE Front Desk and Base Ops.

TXT: Medivac needed at Finnish Air Force static display. Have set up collection point for hurt civilians. Have two souls, 1 child, female, no injuries; 1 adult, female, with injured leg(s).

After she sends the texts she gives it a shot and tries to dial her squadron mates going down the list, from CO down.

Aksa can see the crowd of civilians thinning out some. Looking at her phone she doesn't get any response from her texts. Attempting to call doesn't work either as it shows there is no service.

She then witnesses surface to air missiles being launched from ADR-03 Cheyenne destroids, and fixed missile emplacements on the ground as well as on the SDF-1. This is shortly followed by explosions occurring in the air as inbound missiles are intercepted by the surface defense missiles.

Seconds later the missiles that were not intercepted hit all across the base as large explosions. There are several secondary explosions as several aircraft are struck.

Either through luck or divine intervention Aksa and the small group of civilians that have been gathered near her veritech are unharmed.

Aksa hands the little girl down to the folks on the ground.

"We can't stay here. You three..." She points to the Chinese troops. "Get them and yourselves to the nearest shelter!" She points in the direction of it. She hops down and clears display stand parts away from the front of her craft (to keep anything form FODing her engines) and then does a fast paced walk-around, pulling the 'REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT' tags, and then the chocks. It should be obvious whats she's planning to do. But, just in case... "Head in that direction, I don't want to hurt you with my jet wash." She pantomimes that just in case the term doesn't translate well from English to Chinese. She stuffs the remaining half of her sammich in another pocket. a bottle of water from her cooler in another then hands the cooler over to the folks leaving, as they might need the rest of her lunch and water in the shelter.

Grabbing the Finnish flag from the display and stuffing it into one of her cargo pockets, she climbs back up into the cockpit and dumps the ladder and works the start up sequence with practiced alacrity. Helluva a way to start a war... she snorts to herself with a wry smile. She makes sure the civvies and their escorts are far enough away before she gooses the throttle to get her going.

Once she is at clear of the civvies, she jettisons the dummy AMM-1's, but keeps their racks.

She will taxi towards her squadron area as fast as she can, but keeps an eye out above for incoming danger in case she needs to abort that and take to the air in a hurry.

As Aksa taxis across the airfield she can see several veritechs and aircraft are burning or have been flipped over. It looks like only runway two is operational as a light grey and high vis orange colored veritech (the standard paint scheme of a VF-1D) takes off.

The VF-1D is followed by several veritechs painted semi-gloss white. Then from the other direction of runway two several dark blue painted veritechs take off.

Off to her left a dozen or so aircraft tugs pull out of a hanger. Each tug is pulling a trailer with a gun pod on it and several people are sitting on each tug/trailer. There is some activity inside the hanger. The adjacent hanger (just ahead of Aksa's path) appears to have taken a direct hit and the front half of a blue and yellow pained F/A-18C lies smoldering.

Aksa pumps her fist as she see's the allied aircraft go skyward. "Saada ne paskat!" (Get those bastards) She says aloud, although no one can hear her.

She notes the tugs, the hangers, and the shattered Blue Angel. She turns her aircraft in the direction of the good hanger to pull along side as she pops open her canopy and whistles and waves an arm to get the tug crew's attention.

She throttles down a bit so she can be heard. "I need a gunpod! I'm Winchester!" She hollers out to the ground crew. God I hope they have missiles to, but, I'll take what I can get. "Arrows too!"

"And a helmet!!" She adds pointing to her head.

(OOC: I have no qualms of not having a radio, the WWII style hand signals would make for good RP and actually be pretty funny. But, she would ask for a helmet. (or a hand radio if a helmet is not available.)

OOC 2: Are those dark blue VF's that took off of her squadron?

Several ground crewmen push a trailer with a gunpod on it, and slide it under Aksa's veritech without getting sucked into the intakes.

There are no carts with missiles, and no one runs up with a helmet. But a ground crewmen tosses up a civilian style aviation head set up and yells at her to plug it in.

After calling to the tower Aksa is asked what her combat load out is and then instructed to taxi to either end of runway two and await further instruction.

As she taxi's over to runway two, Aksa pulls along side a U.S. Marine VF-1A painted gloss gull grey with the vertical stabilizers and nose painted flat black. She can't tell the gender of the other pilot as he/she has both the face mask and visor down.

Once at the end of runway two, the two veritechs 'get in line' with about a dozen other veritechs which were previously on static display for the air show. The eight 'Angel Bird' veritechs are also present. None of the hastily sortied veritech's have under wing ordinance and just have gunpods.

OOC: No you cannot tell if that was your squadron taking off, although it's a pretty good guess that was them.

The civilian style aviation head set (hey better then a hand held radio!) is basically what the ground crews use when doing pre-flight radio checks. It plugs in the same place your helmet comm line would.

I am not going to give you any shit if a pair of sunglasses 'magically' appear on your equipment sheet.

Aksa give the ground crew a thumbs up and salute to thank them for the armament and the headset.

Once she has taxied to her jump off point and the plane is in 'park' she adjust her hair slightly, redoing her ponytail, then slips the headset and her sunglasses on. She pauses as she catches a glimpse of herself in the cockpits rear-view mirrors and can't help but chuckle.

She looks less then a person about to enter her first combat sortie, to fight, and maybe even die, and more like she would taking her Europa XS into Sodankylä for the weekend. She looks left and right to see who her 'new' wing mates are and feels a mite under-dressed.

Pulling on her flight gloves she zips her flight suit top up but leaves the sleeves rolled up, for now.

"Tower, Reindeer 18, radio check. Reindeer 18, ready for take off."
She reports, then asks to be fed into the net so she can hear and be heard by the rest of the folks heading into the air, and already in the air.
