Request to join/FAQ (read first)

At this point in the story, I have the following openings for potential new players to run a veritech pilot, or Weapon Systems Operator to sit in the back seat.
  1. I currently have room for a few brand new characters who:
    • Had just completed High/Secondary school or maybe collage/university at the time of the SDF-1's space fold to Pluto. The character has met the aptitude requirements to be a VF-1 Veritech pilot and has spent the past six months in training.

  2. I also have room for up to six potential players to take over named NPC's in the Veritech squadron.
    • Hugh Elordi (Australia/RAAF) – 4th level Veritech pilot (NPC)
    • Aarne Kotila (Finland/FAF) – 4th level Veritech pilot (NPC)
    • Klass Neulen (Netherlands/UN SPACY) - Veritech pilot (NPC – former 2nd level F-16 pilot turned airline pilot, and now a 2nd level Replacement Veritech pilot)
    • Phillips Bodhi (Australia/UN SPACY) Veritech pilot (NPC – former 4th level RAAF F/A-18 pilot who served in the GCW and became and airline pilot, and is now a 2nd level Replacement Veritech pilot)
    • Qian Jun (PRC/ PLAAF) – 2nd level Replacement Veritech pilot (NPC)
    • Take over the fully made character, Aleksandr Bogdanov (Russian Air Force) – 2nd level Veritech pilot (NPC).
    • Take over the fully made character, Lameck Phiri (UN SPACY, Zambian) – 3rd level Weapons Systems Operator. This character sits in the back seat of the veritech.
    • NOTE: Depending on the NPC you select, this option may require a bit more work for character creation, but you already have a name and nationality picked out.

Civilian Character: If you just want to role play being a civilian living within the SDF-1 this is the option for you. Your character could be a bar tender, cook, or waitress at 'Club Dimensions'. This is the military player characters bar/club of choice. NOTE: The one downside to this option is that when the game is strictly focused on combat (Battle of Saturn, Battle of Mars etc etc) your civilian character will not have much to do.

Please do not:
  • Make any suggestions of your civilian character being prior military, as a prior military character would require a LOT of work for character creation, and backstory.
  • Propose a character concept that mirrors a character seen in Robotech/Macross (i.e. no you cannot be an amateur stunt pilot). Please be creative! Some of the active players in this game have made backup civilian characters in the event that their veritech pilot is killed. One player made a sushi chief, and the other has made an adult film producer/actress.

Last but not least please be aware that as seen in both the Macross and Robotech universes the veritech squadrons had something of a 100% plus casualty rate. So, you may lose a character or two. I will guarantee that your character will survive one major sortie/battle. But after that the dice and player decisions may result in character death, or a severe injury. In the event of a severe injury your character may not be able to go back onto flight status for some time.

Use the die roller (for all rolls)

For character creation. Please do not roll stats up at home and just plug them in.

Likewise as the GM I will make all combat rolls against PC's with the die roller as well.

If you're accepted as a player but no longer want to play...

Please PM me and say your leaving the game. I don't need to know why.

Also if real life is getting busy and you can't post as much, or need to go on a hiatus, let me know, we'll figure something out with what to do with your character. I have had some players deploy to the Middle East and come back to the game 6-9 months later.

Inactive players: If a player is inactive for over a month and has not contacted me regarding an absence from RPOL his/her characters will be put into NPC status. If the hiatus occurs during combat there will be no promises that the character(s) will suffer an injury or be killed.

Player absences: If a player does contact me regarding an absence I will place the players character(s) in NPC status and semi write them out of the game. When you return I will try my best to get you back into the game ASAP. I do not need to know the reason for the absence, but a good idea of when you will be coming back would be nice to have.

Ways to contact the GM
  • Make an OOC post
  • Send a a PM to me here in game
  • RPOL Rmail

Character sexuality

This game is rated mature, therefore it is ok for there to be some intimacy in the game. Just make sure that any interaction beyond kissing is dealt with in a 'fade to black' manner. I see no reason to role play sexual encounters, and do to so would make this an adult game.

Character sexual orientation: If you wish to play a gay, or lesbian character you may. I really don't think a trans-gendered character will work because this is a military themed game (sorry) so please no trans-gendered character concepts. But there will be no issue with a character who cross dresses in his/her off duty time (such as what we see Lancer do, who IMO is/was bi-sexual).

Non-Player characters as significant others: It is ok if your character has a significant other. You can even create a background for them if you wish. Just realize that I will not role play your significant other in romantic situations.

The significance of Protoculture (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)

Since I started playing Robotech in 1992 or 1993 I have always believed that all mecha use Protoculture. I never bought into the idea that ASC mecha were fusion powered then and I don’t buy into Tommy Yune's idea of SLMH powering Macross era and ASC mecha now.

The reason being is to power mecha by something other than Protoculture takes away the one important aspect of Robotech, the importance of Protoculture. If mankind wasn't dependent upon Protoculture then why would a bunch of wars be fought over the stuff?

Therefore ALL human, Zentraedi and Robotech Master mecha operate off of protoculture. They can be modified to run off something else, but this will reduce all MECT bonuses by half.

Semi Liquid Metallic Hydrogen (SLMH) has it's place in my games as the reaction mass needed to propel mecha in space or where there is no oxygen.

Character Callsigns

The Three Rules of Callsigns
  1. If you don't already have one, you will be assigned one by your "buddies".
  2. You probably won't like it.
  3. If you complain and moan too much about 1. and 2., you'll get a new nickname you'll like even less!

So, how do you get a callsign?
  1. Do something stupid or have it fit with your last name. Obvious examples, 'Crash' or LT 'Cheese' Kraft.
  2. Sometimes it's based on a physical appearance thing like 'Carrot'.
  3. After you've earned the respect of your buddies, you'll get a more 'heroic' callsign.

Ideas for call signs can be found here: http://www.f-16.net/callsigns.html

In terms of this game, a player can certainly come up with a call sign for his/her character as they write up their character's background. But this doesn't mean your personally created call sign is gonna stick tho.

Changing a character's call sign in game
  1. This applies to every character.
  2. Yes other characters during character interaction can come up with a new call sign for your character.
  3. If your smart the call sign you made up for your character already fits with his/her name or an incident from his/her background. If your personally chosen call sign doesn't fit this criteria, well be ready for a change in call sign.
  4. Be nice, if you try to hook a character up with a call sign be forewarned that they may be just waiting for you to do something in game to warrant your own call sign to be changed.
  5. The new call sign needs to either fit with the characters name or be related to an in character incident/action. It can't just be some made up nickname that has no rhyme or reason.
  6. A character's call sign cannot be constantly changed.
  7. Senior ranking characters are less likely to get their call sign changed. That and you might piss off the senior ranking character who may put you on some sort of shit detail.
  8. Generally a character will come up with the new call sign for another character during character interaction (or even during combat). If several other player characters also agree on the use of the call sign then that's it. Maybe a vote will be held.
  9. If a character attempts to change another character's call sign and it doesn't stick that's the end of the story. No more trying to change the character's call sign to that particular call sign.

Some examples from my games here on RPOL.
  1. A characters name is Scott Hasegawa. Another character couldn't pronounce it the first time he flew with him and said House. This turned into the character's call sign.
  2. Alex Yamasaki keeps trying to change Kerina Valsier's call sign to Bubbles. The first attempt didn't work in the old game so there really shouldn't be a second attempt in this game.

Modifying mecha

Players can up with ideas to modify their mecha, but please keep the following in mind.
  • Please run the idea by the GM first in a PM.
    • I ask this because your idea may be a bit too technologically for where we are in game.
    • Or the idea may be something I think that will serious break the game in terms of balance.
  • Don't have your player character come up with an idea that we are already going to see happen in either the Macross or Robotech universes.
    • For example a player character says "Hey let’s see if we can mount missiles to the veritechs vertical stabilizers!" Well we see this mod on Max’s veritech so a PC ‘coming up with the idea’ is meta gaming.
  • Now if a player character says "Hey let’s make a brass chute catcher for the gunpods. Every spent shell casing ends up getting launched off into space and we really need to be saving stuff to be recycled on the SDF-1." Now this is a completely legitimate in character idea and not based off something seen in either universe (that I know of).
