Col Ibarra:
"We're still working on the survivor list. We know a lot of military personnel made to their designated emergency shelters. The shelters on the military base are going to be the last to be evacuated."
She nods, but says nothing.
Col Ibarra:
"You did a good job in helping to plan the recovery of the veritechs. It didn't go unnoticed, which is why your here."
Aksa viably turns red.
"It was nothing. I was just trying to help."
quote:
Col. Ibarra hands over a tablet. He allows Aksa to read it over but touches on one of the the important points. "They want anyone being given a squadron to transfer to the UN SPACY until we get back to Earth."
Aksa nods, and accepts the tablet. As she reads her expression turns more and more sour. Clearly one or more points aren't to her liking.
She stands, and paces with the tablet in her hand, and has to fight really hard not to laugh at some of the points sheer cheek. She looks back at him a few times as she reads with a look that says
'you can't be at all serious?'. Part way through her circular wandering in front of his desk she withdraws her phone and looks over some document saved there, clearly she's referencing something.
"Colonel..." She starts, and pauses.
"Sir. First of all. Thank you. I want you to know that I appreciate you, and the UN SPACY's, positive impression of me and my ability." She says, slowly, choosing her words carefully.
"Which makes the rest of what I have to say...difficult." She adds.
"If I may be blunt." She pauses, and once given his leave to be so, continues.
"What you; I'm sorry, what the UN SPACY is asking, well sir, it's tantamount to asking me to desert, or worse, commit treason." She says with a pained expression on her face.
"It's asking me to to abandon my country." She pauses.
"As much as I would like to continue serving the mission, I can not, will not, just up and renounce my service, or my nation."
She takes a breath.
"Please understand, I do not wish to sound ungrateful, or contentious. But until the survivor list is finalized, I have to consider myself the ranking member of the FAF and FRDF on this ship. That means, I am compelled to act as a representative for my country." She explains.
She looks down at the salient points.
"As such, I take no exception to Points 11, 10, 9, 7 and 5."
"Regards Point 8. I take no exception, provided the UN SPACY formally request the loan of FAF property to the UN SPACY until we return to Earth. Those planes do still belong to the Finnish people. For the UN SPACY to unilaterally reassign them without our consent would constitute theft. And, as the de jure commander of Hävittäjälentolaivue 11, they are my responsibility." She says.
She gulps, her mouth now quite dry, but she presses on.
"Regards Point 6. Hävittäjälentolaivue 11 already falls under the UN SPACY command structure, in accordance with the FRDF mandate as stated in..." She looks at her phone and rattles off the appropriate section and subsection.
"I see no reason why that state of affairs needs to change."
"Point 1 is the sticking point, and since Points 2, 3, and 4 are basically moot without it I'll address it first." She says, clearly uncomfortable, sweating a little.
"Believe me, I am full aware as to the reasons behind it. And, I do appreciate the irony of the request, given that my country practices conscription. That said, it's not something I can easily agree to."
She opens her mouth to add more, but stops. She's already said quite a lot, and before she goes any further, figures it would be best to hear what the Colonel's reactions are to the concerns she's already voiced. She just hopes that he understands she is just trying to be a 'good soldier' and steward of her countries interests, and not some pissy bitch on a soapbox; and especially not someone crapping on what is, in her mind, a sincerely offered honor.
