Outstanding selection, though I still recommend a def as a backup, and maybe take the ECM skill so you can use that big radar to provide a little defense. And DST? Can combat driving be used in wheeled mode? It would give you a valuable bonus to dodge...

If the Cheyenne in its ‘wheeled’ mode I would allow combat driving to be applied.

Cheyenne also has a radar.

I believe I only get training for one destroid as I'm not pilot from start, hence the Cheyenne.

I'd probably go Tom or Phalanx for Vance, but let's see what Kitty Kat wants. Marie is experienced on the defender, and can do phalanx, but the situational awareness of the Def makes her a better fit in D's. Sounds like Kitty Kat is going to be my platoon Sgt.

I doubt a PC will take this option but in my RT universe the Tomahawk has two crewmen.

Also considering how the military works the least experienced guys end up with the shitty jobs such as being a Phlanex pilot or the extra crewmen on a Tomahawk.

Vance: Phalanx, though with the caveat you crosstrain in Spartan, for when we get to mars.

Lanx seems like a punishment, but I am expecting it will get the most kills. Plus the crosstraining might be fun.

Consider that the Phalanx will not be introduced until the Macross is closer to Saturn, you may want to have Vance go with the Tomahawk, which is the base frame of the Phalanx.

The next battle is Saturn, and the 'base' frame for the Phalanx is actually both the Tomahawk and Defender. All three mecha share the same leg/waist/power plant.

Makes me wonder if the Cheyenne, Defender, and Phlanex should/could be tied together to an ‘auto-fire’ mode. (More attacks, but don’t get to use pilot’s strike bonuses).

Ships have frequently fired on each other's chaff, given automated systems, like during GW1 and GW2. I like the human element in there, especially in a thick ECM environment.

Yeah and by that your character is insinuating that your troops should strive to earn medals in combat which in turn means they may take extra chances in combat and get themselves needlessly killed.
