I have no problem with another player, wherever they're needed.

Lieutenant Stan Poxrod:
I hate to rock the boat, but maybe the other ship needs another player more than we do at the moment.

I could always go back to my original Android-ness, and opt for Envoy instead of Explorer. It does require deleting my first IC post and tweaking the introductory one to swap Sappho's name for mine, but that's not a huge deal. That way we have room for a new Hot-Shot Pilot.

Re: OOC for USS Raptor
I think you guys have good points and losing Sappho does mean we would have 6 players and 4 if the new guy (Flipper McGee) goes to Raptor. But...

There's another possible new player who could come aboard Ladybug.

Raptor has no pilot.

There would be a ton of editing to make this work.

Let's keep it simple.

Re: OOC for USS Raptor
OK, answers to a series of questions:

quote:
What should we assume works and doesn't work?

Pretty much nothing is working at the moment except doors (which I will address below) and the computer core. The advanced AI has its own small fusion reactor. Whatever took Hawkeye offline was not a lack of power. In emergencies, a small amount of power can be routed from the AI's reactor to the bridge, but it's basic: Power the consoles, run one life support module to keep the bridge crew from freezing and suffocating right away, etc.

You do not know at this time if emergency power is off because the system is ruined somehow or if it's just disconnected/turned off.

There is emergency lighting in most locations because (as in our day) those lights have separate battery packs.

quote:
Do we have sliding doors that need power?

The engineers of the consortium are smarter than the fictional engineers of the Star Trek television show and realized that electrically controlled pneumatic doors would be a serious impediment to the crew if they lost power during an emergency. Therefore, every door has a battery pack which engages if main power is lost. This includes the airlocks.

quote:
Should we assume that our ship has a Star Trek-like feel?  Jefferies tubes, turbolift, individual quarters?

Yes. If in doubt, figure you're essentially on a smaller version of USS Voyager. About Crew complement is about 150.

And now...

quote:
Watching him for a long moment, she considered this tragic loss of her colleague and superior, then downgraded their relationship status.

quote:
'There is an imbalance of peptides and other neurotransmitters in your brain. Have you been taking mind-altering drugs?' A pause as she reconsidered, or pretended to. 'Or do you need to and/or want to?'

There was no point in incriminating himself and now was clearly not the time to engage in such questionably recreational activities. However, he did make a mental note of her offer and filed it away for another time.

These literally made me laugh out loud. Nicely done.

Thank you. :)

Are our commbadges actually working? If so, can I remotely talk Stan through applying first aid?

You could have made it all up and I still would've believed it.

Re: OOC for USS Raptor
When I, um, looked at my result in the dice-roller earlier, I mistook the 6 in name as my result and thought I'd rolled a 6. :\ Yeah.
09:25, Tue 03 Apr: Dr. Synthea 6 rolled 4 using 1d6 with rolls of 4. lasers under 4.

Okay, rules question, does it count as a success or failure if you roll your number? It's not actually under, so I'm not sure.

Anyway, I should let Rintoth solve the current problem, since I'm not sure how Synthea can. However, we may have to squeeze past each other in these close yet surprisingly spacious access tubes. ;)

Having made the landing, Synthea quickly threw her arms around Rintoth's neck for support and scissored her long legs in delight. 'Oh my, what strong arms you have.' she said flatly. 'If only you hadn't failed that performance of the Fershali mating dance.'

I laughed out loud.

Re: OOC for USS Raptor
Trying to get a feel for how many dice to roll on tasks.

When you roll the base is 1 die.  Then the rules say "Roll +1d if you’re prepared and +1d if you’re an expert."

Seems like if your role applies, you're an expert.

How do you determine if you're "prepared" or not?

Re: OOC for USS Raptor
Since prepared counts as much toward your chances for success as being an expert in the field, I tend to see it as needing to be backed up by a significant advantage in the story, though not necessarily a significant amount of time. For example, Astrid rolled her ambush prepared even though it probably took mere seconds to hide.

At the risk of repeating myself, think of it this way: If a character is a doctor doing medical care, something that gives them a prepared die has to be so much of an advantage that it counts for about as much as their medical training when it comes to the likelihood they'll succeed.

So I don't think it will apply for your thrusters roll. That said, if in doubt about whether preparedness applies, just roll the extra die and I'll make you pay dearly for it clean it up later.

Re: OOC for USS Raptor
Is this a really a Feelings roll to fix the thrusters?

It seems that this would be more of a Lazers thing, repairing a mechanical device.  Rolling under his L&F score.

Flying the ship by the seat of his pants would be a Feelings roll.  Rolling above his L&F score.

Re: OOC for USS Raptor
I see it as a matter of approach, with the success results being interpreted by the GM.  Certainly Lazers would make much more sense, and should lead to better results.  A success on Feelings probably won't have the same effect, and may not improve thrusters at all, unless the GM is feeling charitable (or entertained).

Re: OOC for USS Raptor
I'm going to allow it this time, but Stan's closer to the mark. Some tasks can be approached as either lasers or feelings, but others are closed off from one approach or the other by their nature.

To make it a little more clear, let me use an example from the Fate Accelerated system. In RAW, the six approaches a character will have are Careful, Clever, Flashy, Forceful, Quick and Sneaky.

If the characters are trying to interrogate a prisoner, a big guy might do it forcefully, a brainy guy might do it cleverly or sneakily and anyone might do it carefully. There might even be an argument for flashy, where you baffle the guy with BS, then hit with courtroom-style dramatics like Ben Matlock. Any character can go after the guy with their best approach.

But what if they're trying to sneak past an attentive guard? Well, you can't forcefully or flashily sneak across a room, so some folks are going to have to make their attempt with their less optimal abilities.

Re: OOC for USS Raptor
Ironically, with those rolls, I'd have been better off with Lazers.

Will you be specifying a type of roll when you feel only one applies?
