Re: OOC Thread for DW - Land of Fate

I'm hoping to get a post this evening here and the Heroic Destiny game.

Then there is a game I've left behind else where I need to make a post of the next evening.

Yup, just had half a post made, I think it might be fun to see the reaction to the marble first.

So should I have Ravnar try Discern Realities again for the possible secret door...?

Hm, we never did decide what happened as a result of Ravnar failing to cast Magic Missile, did we?

Can he try it now...?

I'll say yes, and think if I need a possible consequence for that roll.

So... he... can try it now... but... you're gonna thing about... what it'll mean if it ever comes up in the future...? (Including, I suppose, if Ravnar blows it this next time...?)

If I may make a suggestion...?

This is something I worked out for another solo game I run...

Cast A Spell
When you unleash a spell, roll 2d6 and then add your modifier:

• On a 10+ the the spell is successfully cast, and you may cast it again, later (the next round, if you want).

• On a 7-9 the spell is cast, but choose one:
--You draw unwelcome attention or put yourself in a spot. The GM will tell you how.
--Your casting wears you out a little; take -1 ongoing to cast any spell until the next time you rest for at least an hour.
--After it is cast, you cannot cast the spell again until you rest for at least an hour.
--The spell is somehow less effective than it was supposed to be, or has some other unexpected side effect (the GM will tell you exactly what).

• On a 6 or below, the spell is cast, but the GM will choose one:
--You draw unwelcome attention or put yourself in a spot. The GM will tell you how.
--Your casting wears you out a little; take -1 ongoing to cast any spell until the next time you rest for at least an hour.
--After it is cast, you cannot cast the spell again until you rest for at least an hour.
--The spell is somehow less effective than it was supposed to be, or has some other unexpected side effect (the GM will tell you exactly what).

Re: OOC Thread for DW - Land of Fate

Well the general of DW does think of 6 and lower as hard move time. But I do appreciate the possible thoughts on another way to treat the 6 result.

I am glad to have this as a possible idea if other hard moves don't seem right.
For this instance, let's go with - 1 ongoing to spell casting as the magics of the place are affecting Ravnar.

Mainly I said what I did in the last post because I never got around to making a consequence of the failed roll.

So the results of the failed roll last time (besides the magic missile just not working) are that he's got -1 ongoing for spellcasting until further notice?

BUT that he CAN try to cast Magic Missile again now...?

Oh yes, I wanted to always be sure you still had Magic Missile for a bit more time.

Understood...

...So... Nimol did damage to an imp... is that one still kicking, and needs to be finished off, or can Ravnar concentrate on the other one...?

Re: OOC Thread for DW - Land of Fate

6 damage wasn't quite enough to kill it, almost there.
If that helps with firing magic missiles.

So it's between the rows of library shelves now? Or it's (somehow) between a shelf and a wall?

It's between two library shelf rows in the walking space between. In a pile of books, or rather under them heh heh.

Next up: If there's nothing stopping him from attacking the imp when he gets back there, let me know, and Syrio will roll to attack... probably Ravnar too...

...This is just me asking "so do they find him there when they get there...?"

Okay, I'm just gonna ask you-- is there room in this library to camp and rest (and keep watch on the two entrances/exits)? As far as if it seems safe enough, I guess we're just gonna have to find out the hard way... IF there's room to camp in here AND keep watch at all...

Uggggh. Of course Sannang will also presumably help us detect anything odd...Okay... Syrio first watch (he got his throwing knives back by the way), then Nimol... then Ravnar... Uh... but... wait... what if I do Ravnar then Nimol and then Raqqa? Is that possible...?

Um, if you meant Jagga, I see that arrangement of watch could be done.
Like I said, for this instance, choose whom of the party makes the dice roll for the watch and has a possible event occur.
I have been thinking how some other DM moves might be used for night watch then the typical.

Oh, you just want ONE roll (a Wis roll?) to see if anything happens... not one roll for each of the shifts, huh?

Yeah, I'll have to figure out how the Take Watch roll works with a rotating lot of people (which is sensible, don't get me wrong). That will be for later.

I just figured I'd reply to the last thing you said.

Basically the group beds down to rest and recuperate... The Keep A Watch roll was a 9... So does anything happen...?
