Re: Players Joining
Whatever you care to look for. I'll update my post with some vague topics that might be worth researching. I try not to offer too much guidance, as I'd like for the PCs to say what they're looking for, so I can try to put it into the world. Should I put a "Style Guide" post in the Rules, so everyone knows what's in-bounds for describing what their character sees/experiences first-hand, so you can broaden your posts with confidence?

If you're not sure, you can ALWAYS describe more about what you're after in the OOC section, like:

Detective Silas' eyes tracked over the hieroglyphs and wall carvings, trying to work out where they were from, or perhaps what the carvings referred to.

OOC: Looking for some clue about what locations may be of interest, based on the carvings. Material or crafting style might indicate the origin, but the content and meaning might point to someplace else, like a book printed in America might describe the bottom of the ocean.

That OOC might give me more to work with, and give you more or less information based on the results of the roll, or what your character likely knows.

Okay, fair enough! Update from me later today.

FYI: I'm going to be traveling for work Monday-Thursday this week, so if I miss a day of posting, don't panic. I will probably be able to keep up, but one never knows with work travel!

I seriously am deferring to my much smarter companions Caleon and Oleander in my scene. My guy's all talk or fists, no brains :-)

Re: Players Joining
I am sorry Ta-Suil I thought you where the stable brains of the party.
The learned monk.  Not the tank.

I was expecting to play of your wisdom and be the erratic intelligent nutter.
I did not what to come in heavy handed and take over your characters roll.
As I am a new member of the party.

Now I know different I will try to a take more active lead in thing to do with more intelligence side of campaign.

Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Re: Players Joining
Well, this is a classless system, so you're all allowed and encouraged to make attempts, there really aren't any fixed roles, and what I suggest for rolls and actions is not the limit, either. If someone wants to try something...more to their strengths to contribute, I'm totally open to the idea.

OOC: The rest of the mugging sites are too spread-out to examine like this in a single roll, but getting the above should take 15-20 minutes. Your Effect die got reduced to nothing, but you'll at least be able to recognize the mugger's energies.

So if I get this right.  Lutphen has made himself attuned both to the egg and the thief.
So if he in close presents of either it will be easy for him to pick this up.

That however does not give me physical proof that person I sense is the thief.

Re: Players Joining
You may assume you have either the thief or someone who has had very close contact with them. In essence, you have a sort of signature you'll recognize when you come across it. You're correct that it's not physical proof, but it is darned close, and may give you the chance to....elicit more concrete evidence.

Part of the point of this adventure structure is that nobody has to wait. Go ahead, try and work something out on your own!!! :D

Plus this is Lutphen - he will most likely forget to tell you what he learn until half way thought next scene just at wrong moment (he he).

Raised in a Monastary d4, Diplomacy d10

12:04, Today: Ta-Suil rolled 2,6 using d4,d10 with rolls of 2,6.  Raised in a Monastary d4, Diplomacy d10.</orange>

Ta-Suil you have a Attributes Mental stat.
Why did you not add that into the roll.
Even if it only 1d6 it would help?
(well unless you roll a 1).

Good catch! Add the d6, though the rest of the roll will stand. I'll modify my results post afterward.

Re: Players Joining
In reply to Ta-Suil (msg # 153):

Don't wait. Go do stuff. If they fall behind, it's up to them to catch up, or find some other way to help out.

I've seen too many perfectly-good PbP games go the way of the dodo by players not posting. Avoiding that fate in as many ways as possible is the part of why this game is structured this way. I want you players to seek out what you want to see, and try crazy things. If you let me know ahead of time, I can usually work out a way you can.

I am going to start posting to keep stalled threads moving, to wrap up stalled PC conversations, but please, don't set your character up to depend on someone else's posting. It may take some effort to keep PCs interacting optional, but it is worth it in the interest of keeping the game from stalling completely.

OOC: Gimme a roll to jog his memory! Mention the art style, cultural motifs, symbols, weapon stylings, anything! You'll get an XP for the attempt, but roll well enough, he might be able to point to actual EVIDENCE!! 3XP! I'm excited!!!

Well you said go for it so I have.  Pull all stops out.
Found the highest combo I could and rolled high.
Also put in as much of description as i could without it being whole story in own right.
And we now have the mythical (sharper than steal) elves resin swords and dagger of Kingdom of Caleon as well (If that ok with GM?).

Also created a logo to give you idea of what on elf cloaks.
It make take few seconds for larger picture to appear on web site.

Aaaand boom goes the dynamite. Heckuva post!!!

Actually, stopped here, read these posts, and got all excited to hop over and see the other thread. Daaaang.

I'm just a little heartbroken that the dice gods frowned on you after that awesome post, but I added what consolation prizes I could.

Would spending a 1PP and adding my rolled 4 help.
Or is it to late for that??

I forgot I could do that...

Re: Players Joining
Sorry, it would be too late.

The way the game flows, one roll gets resolved, then the reaction, then we see how things settle out. Letting players spend XP afterward turns things into a bidding war. This also gives the "defender" a little advantage, knowing how high the bar is set, which keeps the game from devolving into rocket tag too quickly.

Pop-culture references in game
I know I'm prone to making these a fair bit in my OOC comments and posts, and GMs are prone to stealing plot bits and so on.

Is anyone against my folding in references into the IC posts? I don't want to wreck immersion, just show peeks "behind the GM screen". I mean to show the zipper on Godzilla's costume, not turn the movie from a serious sorta-action-disaster flick into a comedy/parody. So I plan on keeping the stakes high and the IC universe internally consistent, but if I borrow something pop-culturey, I'd like to lampshade it a bit. I might offer an XP here or there for people who recognize it WITHOUT GOOGLING. I know this is the Internet, but jeez.

Again, not intending to throw off the tone of the game at all, more-or-less license to throw a slightly more obvious pop-culture homage in here or there. I'm not planning on fourth-wall-breaking, more tapping lightly in case someone might notices, but I do not want to endanger anyone's immersion by distracting from the story by looking for real-world breadcrumbs. Thoughts? Concerns? Below is an example:

-------------------

*post introducing some flamboyant villain, mentioning "dancing with the devil in the pale moonlight" *

OOC: Anyone catch the reference for 1XP?

--------------------

*regular IC response post*

OOC: Late '80s-Early 90s Batman movie? Michael Keaton's Joker?

--------------------

*GM's next wall-o-text*

OOC: spot on! 1XP awarded!

Nope, sounds fine to me. And knowing that, I'll be sure to throw in some references to see if you get 'em :-)
