USS Mongoose - Engineering

<<< From: USS Mongoose - Bridge <<<

Dypec had soon entered the currently empty Engineering Department, the only sound coming from the idling Warp Core. He took some time to inspect the Core and finally moved his way over to the Master Systems Console and powering up the display.

"Everything seems to be in working order. Its not the most powerful system, but I think it will make for a good ship." He will continue to work with the systems, getting familiar with everything that he can aboard the Mongoose when it comes to engineering.

USS Mongoose - Engineering

Dypec continues to look through the computer banks before finally there was a ship wide announcement that brings him out of his trance like state at the computer base.

==================================================================================
=/\= "Attention all Crew. All senior officers report to the Captain's Ready Room ASAP."

"Everyone else...the Mongoose will be departing space dock in one hour!" =/\=
==================================================================================

The Vulcan will nod to himself and in his usual posture will move his way out of the Engineering Department towards the Ready Room.

USS Mongoose - Engineering

With Dypec attending the Captain's briefing, it fell to the rest of the crew to finish making sure that the Engineering Department was fully operational for the imminent departure.

Unfortunately, the next senior officer was a Lieutenant Junior Grade Maximum Overdrive (sheesh! What parents named their kids!) who wasn't aboard yet. That left a bunch of ensigns to do the work.

Fortunately, Engineering was the first system brought on-line. After all, without power, nothing else worked!

So, Engineering had been operational within a week after the refit had begun. It hadn't been running on external power links now for almost two weeks. It was just about dotting the T's and crossing the I's. Something like that. For a moment, he wondered if the Klingon's had a similar expression.

*BAM* He brought his fist down on the console that wasn't working properly, and was rewarded with a satisfying flicker of life as the console lit up in full display.

"That's more like it," he said to himself as he ran a diagnostic on it. There was clearly some sort of intermittent short in it, and the diagnostic probably wouldn't find it. He made a note in the Engineering repair log to look for that short when there was more time.

He looked around at all the other busy Engineering Ensigns, and quickly made the rounds of all the stations, not because he had any authority, but because his own job was done.

He texted a comm message to Dypec: Engineering fully functional and ready for departure.

He had no doubt Dypec would look at the repair logs anyway... just to make sure that all previous repairs had been made.

Koram continued to monitor the engineering systems, making adjustments as needed when an indicator showed something starting to creep away from norm. He also helped finish installing the remainder of the unfinished systems... mostly minor, secondary, or even tertiary systems.

"Hey, Zak," he called out to one of the other engineers. "I think we're being used as guinea pigs." He pointed to a panel he was working on.

"The refit has replaced the isolinear chips in engineering sub-section 274 with those newfangled bio gel packs. No, I checked the specs. That's what the refit called for. I suppose Dypec knows about them. Apparently, it's some sort of test to see how well they can be integrated with normal systems."

"If it works, it'll mean they can slowly refit a ship one system at a time, rather than take the whole ship off-line for a total refit."

"We'd better keep an eye on it, and read up on the specs for the packs. You'd better check stores for replacements. And the replicator for the replication specs."

"Of course, with my luck, we'll get attacked and that'll be the only system that's still operational!"

USS Mongoose - Engineering

As the ship departs Narendra, engineering's responsibility now is to make sure that the sensor pod had been completely and accurately connected to the ship and that all its sensors have been integrated with the ship's normal array.

Engineering should coordinate with Science and Tactical for the actual operation of the experimental sensors.
