This thread covers the Science Labs and Stellar Cartography. If you are in a specific area of the Science Department (such as the Physics Lab), you should start post with that location.

Lt Commander Ren stood at the main door leading into the main science lab directing several crewmen where things should be put.  She was checking off the list of things making sure everything was present.  She went over her list again as she looked down the hall seeing the next anti-grav lift coming with the next shipment from the cargo bay where it had all be beamed too.  "Good looks like the last shipment arrived, just have to get it all organized before we ship out."

She turned back to lab and walked over to a central diagnostic table sighing as she looked over her currently disassembled personal project. "After we get going will have to start working on you again." She tapped the small glass container holding the small glowing bioforms before turning back to the work at hand.

Deera was about to start into a side project she had been working on for sometime and she hoped to have finished soon.  As she was just setting out her notes the ship wide announcement was heard and she arched her eyebrow slightly.  She knew that Commander Blackthorne out ranked her in the science department but from her information she was officially acting CSO at the very least.

Putting things back she sealed away her notes and then headed for the ready room.

Whoever is on duty in the Science Department, a text message comes from SO R.T. Blackthorne alerting you to the possibility of a fragment of the destroyed ship being transported into one of the science labs.

You are to determine what caused it to become debris.

Science continued to analyze the debris from the Catspaw disaster, but most of it was down in the hangar bay.

It didn't take long to locate the subatomic signature of a warp core explosion. It was consistent with the T'Shran's report.

It'd be up to engineering to virtually reconstruct the ship from the debris, though.

There was an anomaly found: one section of hull showed signs of having been struck with a Klingon ship disruptor. This was also consistent with the report. It was a system-3 disruptor, also consistent with a Klingon escort ship.

There's a distortion in the medal, however, that indicates the disruptor used was slightly out of alignment, indicating that standard maintenance hadn't been done on the array for a long time.

If it matters and if the Klingon ship is found, Science can positively match the attack to that ship... even if the array gets realigned.

The captain leads the small group to the Science Department, continuing the conversation as they go.

"I don't begin to understand all that you have just said," he replies to Eclipse.

"Am I to gather that you can breed hybrid bodies and then transfer minds from one body to another?"

As the Chief Science Officer steps out of her office, Anther then introduces everyone.

"Eclipse, this is our Chief Science Officer, Deera Ren. She is a species known as Trill... specifically, a joined Trill. They are actually two species, one of which is humanoid and the other a symbiont."

"We still aren't really sure what the symbiont is, but it retains the memories of its previous hosts."

"Deera, this is Eclipse and her mate Navorn."

"Do you have such a species in your universe?"

Eclipse smiled slightly Deera ran and inclined hir head in greeting before looking back at the Captain.

"Navorn is a fluk, and while bioengineering new species can be done it is heavily restricted and regulated, with only the Chakats and Stellar foxtaurs being made legally in the last 200 some years since the end of the Gene wars. The transporters the Federation has in my universe are composed of two primary systems. The main transporter and body pattern buffer, and then the mind matrix generator. As was discovered by the systems creator when hir niece attempted to use the first transporter without the mind matrix generator the transporter alone could not handle the full complexity of a sentient beings mind, when the niece rematerialized all hir higher brain functions, all hir memories, where gone, shi was essentially a newborn in an adult body, and there was no way of recovering hir old memories. But it was discovered by accident later on that if the system has someones mind pattern a different body pattern can be substituted as long as there is enough organic mass available for the different form. This is actually what happened with Navorn, there is, or was, not sure if she got pulled here along with us, an elder ascended being, or deity, that likes to hang out with me and my ship, Navorn would actually either be dead or paralyzed from the waist down if she hadn't used to transporters to get hir out of a situation, but then the transproters body pattern buffer glitched, the deity had access to information about all the Stellar foxtaurs and using that information created Navorns hybrid body and put hir mind pattern in the new body in order to save hir life, shi is also the only hybrid there is."

"As to having anything similar to the Trill back home, not that has been encountered so far. We have not encountered any race that has a symbiotic relationship with another, and like I said the only human like race so far discovered is humans, all others bear more animalistic appearances, for example the Ciatians from the planet Cait, are a bipedal felinoid species, and the Rakshani from the planet Raksha are another bipedal felinoid species resembling the Earth Bengal tiger, it's also their world that the elder ascended being I mentioned originated from, and she is called by several names, Bast, Bastet, or Bastula, if you or any human crew might recognize any of those names."

In reply to Eclipse (msg # 7):

" Daughter of Ra, Goddess of Cats and Civilization. My Human Mother told me about her. "

"Quite pleased to meet you, Eclipse and Navorn," Deera replied.

"I must say, I'm intrigued by your universe. Our encounters with alternate universes have been limited and not all that nice. Yours sounds more like a different quantum universe since the alternate universe had duplicates of most people but they were somewhat twisted versions... generally not nice versions."

"I'll get right on this sample."

"Shall we continue the tour?" Captain th'Valla asks Eclipse.

"Is there any specific area you would be interested in seeing?" he asks as he shows your around the rest of the ship, eventually winding up on the Bridge.

One of the other science officers, Ensign Brewster, suddenly calls for Deera.

"Commander, the holo-system has come on line!"

Before Deera can respond, a hologram person suddenly materializes in the Science Lab.

As the hologram solidified the figure was different then any known species, as while obviously felinoid and obviously female, she was roughly about 8ft tall and her fur pattern resembled that of an Earth Bengal tiger, but her tail was thicker and the most outstanding feature was the pair of white feathered wings growing from her back.

Bast looked down at Deera and the others with a friendly smile making sure that her teeth didn't show before she spoke up.

"Peace, I am the one that Eclipse mentioned, Bast, I was just making sure I could use your ships holoemitters if the need arose like I do on occasion on the Ancestor, though I have extended the courtesy of not going through your computer to get all the info I want, does you ship have holoemiters in other parts of the ship aswell?"

"A little warning next time,"<green> Anther said with a wry smile and touch of humor in his tone. <green>"That was a bit of a joke," he added, as it occurred to him that these other Universe people might have a different sense of humor.

"Yes, we have holo-emitters in most major areas of the ship. This was to facilitate our Emergency Medical Doctor getting to where the crew was to treat them, rather than have to wait till they were brought to the Medical Bay. Many times, it was too late by then."

"The EMD is a holographic medical program, used when the Medical Officers are, themselves, injured or otherwise unavailable. It's merely an extra level of security."

"We activate ours only once a month for a day or two, just to make sure it's operating within normal parameters. The verdict is still out on what will happen if it's left on for an extended period of time."

"Anyway, welcome, Bast. On the surface, you'd be classified with Q and the Squire of Gothos or the Douwd or the Protectors, but, as what, we don't really have a convenient label for them. Disembodied intellects is often used. And then there's the Prophets."
