Silviene nods remembering, "Yes, I've met Nog. Very brave for a ferengi. Shame about what happened  during the dominion war, but as I understand it he showed great valor. He seemed to be doing well last I heard."

"Please have a seat Lieutenant." Turning to Lt. Commander Vinzz he realized that the Ferengi didn't have a clue as to what Shard was doing, and rather than embarrass anyone would finish the meeting and then explain it in private. "You as well Shard."

Re: USS Mongoose - Captain's Ready Room

Apart from a raising of his eyebrows and a brief parting of his lips, Sergei managed to contain his surprise at hearing that the ship's counselor was a Ferengi. And a Lt. J.G. at that. He'd actually heard of the Ferengi counselor through his colleagues who taught at the Academy, but he never imagined that he would have already graduated, much less be assigned to his ship. Their mission must be more important than he had believed if Starfleet was willing to accept such an unconventional officer as counselor on a ship this size.

"So does anyone else have anything to add? Counselor you need to review what resources you will need and submit a report by the time we arrive on site. We have eight hours till we arrive at the area where the Cat's Paw was attacked, and I need everyone on their toes for this. So find out what you need, and we will make it happen, or do our best to figure it out."

Silviene cocks her head.

"Giving that we are flying into an area where a ship has already been attacked I recommend that we head in expecting trouble. Yellow alert. We need to be ready to throw up shields and fire weapons if we are attacked."

"Yes sir, I will have it to you as soon as possible, I already have ideas on what will be needed." The Ferengi gave a nod as he spoke. With that Napax turned to Shard Vinzz.

"If your apology is sincere I accept." And after this he gets up from the seat he had taken earlier, takes his heavy ruck sack and leaves for sick bay.

Surprised at Napax's exit the captain raised an eyebrow. "Well, since there isn't anything else, Dismissed."

Standing up, he walked over to the door and to the bridge.

Sergei gets up and proceeds to Sickbay. He would need to prepare for potentially more casualties.

Miranda, preferring to use the conference room rather then her quarters for work, spends a lot of time here and on the bridge.

Re: USS Mongoose - Bridge

Once all the Department Heads arrived in the conference room, plus a few others, the Captain started the meeting.

"As I'm sure you've all heard by now, the star system up ahead that we were intending to explore has turned out to be something... highly unusual," Captain th'Valla began.

"For lack of a better term, Stellar Cartography has dubbed it a super-system, and Lieutenant Commander Blackthorne has named it Dalmatia... because it has 101 planets."

"You heard me right: 101 planets. You'll have to ask the Lieutenant Commander why he named it Dalmatia, though."

"We're still gathering data on the system. Once we have some more details, we'll put together a plan of exploration. I'll turn the meeting over to Blackthorne now."

Re: USS Mongoose - Bridge

"Thank you, Captain," Roland begins.

"I was watching an old movie with my kids last week. It was called 101 Dalmatians so you can see why it was on my mind when this super-system showed up on our sensors. It seemed... appropriate."

"So, what we know so far is that the primary is a white sub-giant and it has an extremely large orbital track. Two of the worlds are proto-stars, which is how the outer planets are getting light and heat."

"Here's the thing... the primary shouldn't be large enough to have that kind of gravitational pull to keep all those planets in orbit, especially the outer ones."

"Our working hypothesis is that the system isn't natural because we don't know of any celestial mechanics that would account for it. We also don't know of any artificial means that could be accomplished, though. That's what we'll be exploring."

Re: USS Mongoose - Bridge

Some of the Department Heads had brought along someone else from their department or a 'guest', which is what Deera Ren had done bringing along Eclipse.

Dypec had brought along Koram Val for his dual knowledge/experience as a joined Trill.

Shard had brought Pacomio along for a different perspective, as well as his recent experiences with the alien ships.

Ensign Quinn was there because she'd have to plot the hundreds of courses among all those planets.

Miranda was there because she'd be leading most if not all of the Away Teams... assuming there was anything needing hands-on exploration.

Others at the meeting were Jack Tycho (CTO) and Sergei Condratev (CMO).

Re: USS Mongoose - Bridge

"We're still too far out to get any life sign readings from the planets," Roland answered Pacomio.

"We haven't detected any warp signatures, but we have picked up some energy emissions. We just don't know what they mean yet."

"With 101 planets, I'm expecting we'll have to use the shuttles to send out several away teams at the same time."

"So, I'm notifying all of you ahead of time... to think about who you can send on three different Away Teams."

Eclipse smirked a bit at the name of the system and the explanation, as shi remembered both the original animated movie and the later live action version. Shi listened though to the others before shi spoke up.

"We could use the Ancestor instead of one shuttle, it is capable of planetary landing and in an emergency would probably be able to provide better support then a shuttle."

"That's a very good idea, Eclipse," Roland replies. "Is your ship capable of accommodating our various species?"

"In any case, we'll have to see what kind of additional data turns up. Who knows, there may be a caretaker race maintaining this system."

"As it is, I'm expecting a three-step exploration. First step would be explore the planets between the sun and the first proto-star. Second phase would be between the two proto-stars, and the third would be the planets beyond the second proto-star."

"As I said, something has to be keeping all these stars in their orbits. No simulation we've been able to come up with accounts for that."

"I'm fairly certain the Ancestor is capable of accommodating anyone that comes aboard as long as they don't need some really exotic atmosphere to breath in. Though the kids will probably complain about not being able to keep the artificial gravity off."
