No sorry pretty much none of this is possible in the Badlands settings unless you have a gift.  Some of it is impossible even if you HAVE a Gift.

Also I thought Wu Xia means 'martial heroes'... not sure about 'flying people'

Technology is generally early 20th century level or less... so no cyberware or metamaterials even for the Gifted.

Best of the best in the Badlands can parry an arrow, maybe two... but not 3, effortlessly perform wall runs, easily chain jumps 4 to 5 feet each adding acrobatic flare while doing it, fight one against dozen, twist in the air catlike, kick opponent through the brick wall (admittedly old and in disrepair), and shrug off damage that would be fatal in real life (the person kicked through that wall cringes and moans and then gets up and continues the fight)

... but that's about the extend of "normal" abilities.

Gifted play by different rules, but gifted PCs would not work.

The stuff you are asking for - there just wouldn't be anything in the Badlands to provide you with any sort of challenge.

OK thanks: I wanted to join a Feng Shui game originally. Then I thought it was going to be like the TV show. But now I see that we are in fact in a world in which the TV show exciting stuff is all done by NPCs

I like games with serious Kung Fu BadAss fighting (like the TV series) but as we can't do that here I guess I will be pulling out.

I appreciate the invitation, I wish all of you lots of fun. Please remove me from the game

I think you'll find all the stuff a Feng Shui character can do, you can do. If it's on the Archetype you can almost certainly do. Think of it this way, rather than use Chi, Genome, Scroungetech or Sorcery use Fortune. Fortune is the generic term for all of it any way.

If that's not going to be enough, sorry to see you go.

Could someone help me make my character? I wanted to be a Martial Artist, but I'm new to this system and apparently there's also some changes here?

There is not a lot to do. Pick an archetype is about it. Martial Artist is an archetype, the Old Master is pretty much a straight up martial artist, the Exorcist Monk may be a bit of a problem but could be modded, the Archer is a kind of martial artist and the Sifu is a martial arts and healer.

Each of them have a variety of abilities called Schticks.

All of the archetypes are listed here:

System mechanically the archetypes are the character.  What you add to it is the story, style, and in theory personality.

There are not a whole lot of steps to making characters, and martial artist is a perfectly good one.

OK I was wrong. I'm sorry. I forget the fundamental rule: the GM sets the vision for the game. I thought the vision was the TV series (as I said I've watched season one) but it isn't. It's the world of the TV series

If you are OK with me staying, I'd like a name change. The name I have is for a different campaign. A Feng Shui one. The name 'Xiao Mao' (means Little Cat) would be good. I'll look through the archetypes and pick something simple.

Ok it's probably just me and I'm not an into the badland s fanboy though I've seen all season one .....and it might just be my age but I think into the badlands is the modern day version of the water margins tv series......Damn that shows my age :(

I think calling Into the Badlands a modernization of The Water Margins is reasonable.  But that isn't a bad thing.

As for playing games in a TV or movie setting yes one always wants to step away from the main plot arc, using the world and evolving that world as required, but keep the focus 'off screen' as much as possible.

This is particularly true for a show that is still ongoing.

So, I'm still here and got my sheet up, things just got crazy for a bit. Just trying to figure out how to best introduce my character.

Walk up to the gathering on the road. A bunch of rough characters, standing in a group on a remote road is an interesting thing on it's own.

Ihalf beleived my reasoning. These roads are dangerous.. and if you join an existing group they are just as likely bandits. If they don't know each other they is a chance they are not all out to get you.

I have 5 times that many kids. One of them has her own place and gets the idea of breaks. The rest, not so much. I get your position.

Ok,Narrator. Where on the map are we? I assume to the south of the bridge in the stand of trees nearest the river?

I don’t think anyone will be surprised if I announce that the fight is coming.

The things is due to lack of experience with Feng Shui I could use your input.  The fight isn’t supposed to be a great challenge, but rather an opportunity for PCs to showcase their fighting ability and style.  You’ll be dealing with bandits.. Think Sunny’s first fight in the show.

The question is how many bandits should there be? how many mooks? should there be featured foes and how many? I wasn’t planning on a boss, but should there be one?

I also would like to give PCs opportunity to fight more without flooding Donbrook with large number of mooks.  So I might give mooks extra resilience (mooks go down in one hit as usual but some do not stay down and get up for another go at the heroes, this way you have a fairly reasonable number of mooks, like a dozen instead of 50, but still get to show your skill 50 times)... I did something like that in other games, but have no idea if it will work in Feng Shui… what are your thoughts?

In reply to Bone Flower (msg # 64):

Strictly speaking, yes.  I was thinking south of the wooden bridge in the center of map, I even have a IC write up that assumes you are crossing the bridge... but then I figured out, neh... let the players decide where and how they enter the village, so feel free to go from the west, or come across the river (large creek really at the moment, the amount of water in the creek depends on the season... and some other factors), from the north across the fields... your call.

The wagon wont be going across a river, and the fields are more likely to be annoying for it but possible.  The bridge is probably the best bet.

It works perfectly for the fiction so far if we're in the trees to the south of the bridge. The wagon works on the road and bridge too. Seems like that's decided.

Assuming you guys are talking about the map set to group 1 I am fairly sure that up stream is left of the bridge, down stream would be right.

Morgan, can you explain why?

While this isn't critical element, but I do agree with you and... I like to reward player skill, so if this isn't just a wild guess I think that would merit some small boon.
