RTJ and Intro
Hello, every body!

WARNING: This game is starting at fifth level, using Unearthed Arcana (playtest material), maybe allowing third-party stuff like Matt Mercer classes and class options, using homebrew rules and other material, and generally just doing whatever we think is cool and fun. In other words, you might want to turn back now if you are looking for a finely balanced and expertly executed experience.

Still with me? Cool!

So the goal of this game is to have fun and do whatever you always wanted to do in a D&D game but have not had a chance to do. This thread will be a quick run-down of what to expect from me, what I'm looking for from you, and what is open for discussion.

Setting and Story
This story is set on a planet of our creation in the D&D universe. This means a few things:

1) I'm intentionally leaving lots of "blank spaces" for you to fill in. If you want to help build the world then that is great but you don't have to if you don't want to. The basic rule of thumb is that whatever you say goes unless I specifically said things were a different way. You can make up countries, gods, orders of knights, or whatever you want.

2) Since it is in the D&D universe, you can "copy and paste" from official settings. Do you want to be a clericof Kelemvor but worry that he's from a different planet? We'll just say he's a god on this planet too. I mean the official gods sometimes have authority in multiple dimensions or planes of existence so being on a different planet is no big deal.

3) I'm removing restrictions so you can mix and match things. You want to be a dwarven bladesinger or a goblin Battlerager? Go ahead. Do you want to be a purple dragon knight without belonging to the knightly order from the nation of Cormyr? Go ahead. Basically you don't have to be a slave to canon.

Setting and Story
So what is this story and what is this world?

This story starts with you trapped in a city that is being wiped out by a plague and you are trying to survive. After that we'll go wherever you want to go. We'll talk more about it when we get there. The goal is to have a mix of combat, exploration, and social interaction, among other things.

One of the names for this world is called Chimera, which means "a creature made of very different species." Thousands of years ago aliens conquered Chimera and created many races by mixing humans with animals (that's why they call it Chimera). They native gods and humanoids fought back but were losing badly. The chief goddess reached out to many beings from other dimensions and worlds who had great power, offering them official status as a god on Chimera if they would help drive off the aliens. Many beings took up the offer, drove off the invaders, and became official gods of Chimera. This is why you find so many dozens of races and religions here.

Character Creation
You can be any race you want, any background, and any class/subclass you want. As I was looking through all these options I realized that there are anywhere from 14 to 126 options to choose between in each step. To help simplify things I'm allowing you to build your own races by mixing and matching features from 18 homebrew races and creating your own backgrounds using a list of 13 features.

If you know what you want to be then you can use material that already exists outside of this game. If you'd like to try something else then you can create your own stuff using the rules I lay out in the Character Creation thread.

Character Creation
Please answer the Who, what, where, when, why, and how of your character.

When someone asks your character who they are, what does your character say? Do they define themselves by their family and village or by their goals and abilities or by something else?

What are your character's roles in combat, in social situations, and in exploring the world? What are their strengths and weaknesses?

Where did you grow up? Where all have you lived before now? Did you group up in a nomadic group like a caravan or a sailing ship or did you love your whole life in one town? How have you made a living so far?

When did you learn your current skills? Ere you trained as a warrior or wizard since childhood or did you live a boring life until adulthood, when you hone an army or attended an academy?

Why are you adventuring? Is it for Gold and glory or do you have a great and benevolent cause you seek to uphold? Basically, what are your goals and motives?

How are you trying to accomplish your motives and goals? Are you honest and law-abiding or are you a criminal and a jerk?
