Shields

All shields grant the ability to provide cover or take the Engage and Disengage actions as Reactions or Bonus Actions.

You gain more cover using a Bonus Action than using a reaction.

Bonus Action Cover/Reaction Cover/Passive Cover

You can also use a shield as an improvised weapon dealing d4 blunt damage.

Wielding a Weapon with a Shield: shield counts as a weapon for purposes of dual wielding fighting style and feat. Shield dies not count as a weapon for the dueling fighting style.

Dual Wielding Shields: like dual wielding weapons for attacking purposes. Use the higher of two amounts of cover provided and all attacks have disadvantage against you.

Shield on Back: half cover passive. If active shield provides passive cover then increase the amount of cover from half to 0.75.

Dual Wielding Shields while wearing a shield on your back:

False Shields: Buckler and Bracer Plate. You can provide yourself half giver as a bonus action.

Buckler: +2 Dodge against a single melee attack as a bonus action or Reaction, dual wield light weapons or wield  2-handed weapon, no cover

Bracer Plate: +1 Dodge or +1 Armor against a single melee attack as a bonus action or reaction, dual wield light weapons or wield 2-handed weapon, no cover

False Shield Enhancements:
Spiked: d6 pierce
Bladed: d6 slashing
Studded: d6 blunt

True Shields: Circle. Disadvantage on Perception and Stealth. Provides half cover as a bonus action or as a reaction. Has the more enhancements than False Shields and Tower Shields.

Circle: no extra perks as this a base unit

True Shield Enhancements:
Crescent: no disadvantage on Perception
Lantern: provides light
Boss: d6 blunt
Spiked Boss: d6 pierce
Bladed Rim: d6 slashing
Lance Holder: same hand as lance while mounted
Back Strap: can be carried on back providing Half cover.

Tower Shields: oval, kite, scutum, and hoplon. Auto-fail Perception and Stealth. Provide full cover as a bonus action, provide three quarters cover as a reaction, have half cover passively as long as shield is in hand.

oval: 0.75/0.75/half

scutum: full/0.75/half

Pavise: as an action can set shield on ground as a wall providing cover without requiring an action so long as the broad side of the shield is perpendicular to you and the person targeting you (full cover in a line, 0.75 in a cone, half if not crossing the parallel). Full/0.75/half

kite: 0.75/half/half, Protection OR d6 punch OR use on horseback

Hoplon: Protection fighting style, +2 Armor when using action to activate cover, 0.75/0.75/half

Tower Shield Enhancements:
Vision Slit: disadvantage on Perception instead of auto-fail on perception
Back Strap: can be carried on back providing Half cover.
Lantern: provides light
