The Temple of Amaris - Throneroom of Amaris
The throne room has walls of red with gold designs painted delicately such as flowers, birds with long sweeping tails, various animals, and angels with widespread wings. The floor is made of grey marble that gleams like a mirror reflecting the worshippers as they approach the throne. Hanging from the ceiling are delicate lanterns in the shape of flowers and butterflies. The throne itself is made of a dark wood like teak that has been painted with gold swirls, runes, symbols, and more blooms. Velvet pillows lie before the throne to kneel upon.

The Temple of Amaris - Throneroom of Amaris
Amaris sat on the throne of her temple, looking out at the masses who were still coming for their destiny. Her lips had long since settled in a moue of displeasure at the long hours listening to vampire, dhampir, humans all begging her for good luck and blessings as though she could toss them out like candy to everyone. Selfish.

The only other hint that she was unhappy, other than the downturn of her lips, was the way her long, artfully painted nail picked at the arm of her throne, creating a small gouge in the teak wood.

She gazed at the woman in front of her pleading for all manner of blessings as if she deserved any of them and imagined spitting her venom at the mewling vermin and watching her shrivel. A small smile lifted her lips and the congregation sighed with delight. The mewling woman's compatriots gave her congratulatory touches as she bowed with a happy cry and walked away, believing herself blessed.

There was a brush of wind that caused the curtains to rustle and suddenly stood the Venatrix to the side and slightly behind the throne of her beloved Queen. She had spoken truth to Morbus-she did truly love Amaris.

Which made what was to come even more difficult.

Amaris didn't look at Killishandra as she settled in beside the goddess but she commented on her presence. "I thought you and Brother had to go over the details of ruling the entire world?" she murmured discreetly while the people kept moving forward.

Another human was beseeching her to save his daughter, as though his daughter had more rights to health than another sick child. Selfish.

"Bored already? I know I am."

"Your dear Brother is still planning on killing every human left alive which caused us to have another fight. Don't worry-all structures are still standing," she replied in a voice only Amaris could hear.

"I am. It's been awhile since there was a rebellion or good hunt to go on. It seems everyone is behaving."

Amaris looked out that long line of people with a weary huff. Another person came forward and petitioned in a high, wailing voice. Something about nine hungry children and the taxes being so high. As if she could control the tax. That was all Morbus. The malnourished man was pleading to become rich. She already knew his fate would be to die in the platinum mines, indentured for his debt to the crown. She held out her hand to indicate that he should stop talking, but of course he believed she meant that he would get his wish. He began weeping and praising her name. When he reached out, her guards crossed their spears in front of him. He bowed several times while touching his forehead then left.

She gave a signal and her guard announced, "The Goddess requires a brief adjournment. Everyone outside please."

When all of the parishioners had left, she sighed, "I have foreseen a band of Chosen rising up and creating dozens, if not hundreds of unsanctioned new Chosen. The leader has a strong charismatic gift not unlike Zen's."

"Finally something to do besides spar with your Brother over his ridiculous plans. When can I expect this band of Chosen and their gifted leader?" The Huntress asked.

She sat down on the dais and looked outside to where the masses of humanity waited. Unlike Morbus she didn't hate them and she wasn't bored or disgusted by them as was Amaris. They were the children of the Creator whether or not they knew it and no matter how He ignored them.

Someone had to watch over them.

Amaris fingered the red beads of the intricate headdress she wore. Large whorls swept up from her glistening black hair, each whorl inset with a large red stone, like a ruby. The headdress was a gift from her brother and one she'd taken to wearing the most since she got it.

She closed her eyes and tried to move past the fog that blocked her ability to see more than vagaries in the future, but it was no use. With a swipe of her hand she said, "I don't know. Soon? Perhaps even this moment. What have you heard in the city?"

“Nothing about a band of Chosen making new Chosen on a whim. Mainly fear from Morbus’s upcoming fete,” Killishandra said, not bothering to hide her distaste. She found the Blood Ball to be disgusting and as wicked as anything the Old World offered that made Him turn His gaze from His broken Creation.

Amaris' lips twisted in bitterness. "Of course. You have other things on your mind so perhaps your attention to the populace has been divided."

Her gaze fell to the rose in Killishandra's hand. "I wish you luck in trying to remove me from your fate. I did try. You are welcome to the pinnacle, but beware of the sharpness of your roost."

Her gaze lifted to stare at the other woman. Her dark eyes stormed with varying emotions: disappointment, envy, pain, relief.

Killi’s gaze softened and she went to her knees before Amaris and took her hands. “Oh Beloved, why do you look at me so? You know I did not ask for this destiny but had it laid upon me.”

She lowered her head and Amaris could feel warm tears on her hands. “If there was a way that I could take away the pain and fatigue you have felt for so long and make them mine I would do it. I would give anything to hear you laugh with joy again or see your radiant smile and not lose you forever I would but we are both trapped in this fate. What would you have me do?”

She looked up at the ceiling as she held out her palm face up. "For nine thousand years I never cried a tear. Not a one."

Her lips lifted slightly as memory took her away. "For nine thousand years I never laughed either. One man changed all that. For one year I laughed enough for the thousands, and when someone took my man away, I cried enough to fill two bottles. "

She stared at Killishandra who would remember the day that Amaris drank down one bottle of her own tears and started the chaos of the tragedy.

"The other bottle..." she whispered. "Where is it?"

Killi looked at her through red-rimmed eyes. “Hidden away and kept safe as it has been since you gave it into my keeping” she said, her eyes asking Amaris the question she would never ask out loud.

She remembered well that terrible time. The Time of Dying. Amaris vanished, vampires died by the thousands and the humans cheered. She also remembered the rivers of blood that flowed like water through city streets as the vampires took out their horrific rage upon the mortals. She had prayed then to never see such sights again. She would pray again.

She gazed down at her hands.

"It's easy then. Just give it to me and see if the Creator will spare you the aftermath."

She pressed her hands against her abdomen, "Although, Bishop will rage some more. Poor thing. I plucked eir son's pretty flower, and now the seed will die as well?"

She shrugged with a bitter laugh.

"N-now? You want to do it now, Amaris? I know you are tired and time is nothing to us but it seems so soon," Killi said, getting up to pace the room. She was rambling, knew she was rambling but was unable to stop. She had known Amaris for over 10,000 years and suddenly it seemed that was hardly enough time with her.

"Isn't there another way? Something that doesn't end in your death or cause so much chaos and misery?"
She threw herself down at Amaris's feet again and took her hands, crying again, red tears flowing freely. "Can you not look out and see if there is another way forward for all of us?"

Amaris was like a stone in the face of her friend's agony. She'd long since lost the ability to smile, or cry, or feel. "You know I can't see my own destiny, only those of people around me. All the curses of who I am will likely move to you," she stated calmly, as though she hadn't asked her closest friend of 10,000 years to kill her.

She waved her hand in the direction of the palace, "And you will have to contend with Morbus and what he did to me."

When the tragedy happened, as both of them knew, he'd made it so that Amaris could never take her own life. Purposely drinking her own tears would be impossible at this point. Killishandra would have to force the tears down her throat, or inject her as Amaris fought to stay alive.

"I do not envy you, old friend. What the Creator is asking of you sounds a lot more like a curse than a blessing. But if it means that we are all free once more, I accept it."

Killi bowed her head and placed it in the lap of her oldest friend in all the world. She had known Morbus longer but not by much and he had become monstrous as they continued moving through time.

She bowed her head in grief but also for the inevitable for what was to come was Destiny; laid upon her by God Himself but, more than that, it was what Amaris longed for.

"It shall be done."

With a sigh of wind and flapping of cloth she was gone.

It didn't take long-woefully short, in fact, for the Venatrix to return. She had hoped it would feel like years but she moved to fast for that and, to her, years passed like minutes. There was a crack of thunder from outside and she was back, standing before Amaris.

Her eyes were blood red and there were trails of crimson running down both cheeks but her voice brooked no refusal and sounded like the lash of a whip when she spoke to the guards. "Leave us. Now."

Amaris glanced up, confusion on her face. She'd lowered her hand as she'd been about to instruct the guards to return the worshippers for their blessings.

As the guards turned and left again, her brows raised at Killishandra. "What more must you say, old friend?"

"What is to come is not for their eyes. And neither is this." She set the bottle down and put her arms around Amaris. "How I wish this burden had never fallen on you and how I wish this had never been placed upon me. To be both your doom and release is not a blessing, despite Him telling me what He did. The things He said do not make this any easier."

Fresh tears fell and warned Amaris's shoulder.

"Killishandra…" Amaris' voice had a low tone of warning, "With the pestilence that my brother put within me... what you are doing right now is too soon. Let us wait until there is less curiousity. The temple's walls have ears and right now there may be busy feet running to my brother. You both say that you could best the other... but make sure you have the upper hand first."

Her arms wrapped around the other woman and squeezed, "I may try to kill you if we try, and that would bring everyone in."

Tears came anew but with them a small laugh of relief as what must be was averted, even for a short time. "Would that I ever be possessed of your wisdom, dear friend. I will place this back into its secret place and pray we have no need of it too soon for I am selfish and wish as much time with you as I may yet have."

She pulled back and kissed her friend upon the brow before vanishing and all that was left behind was the warmth of tears on the shoulder of the other woman.

Outside of the temple, the cacophonous roar of dozens of angry parishioners rose up. There were thumps against the door.

Amaris looked up with a frown and commanded, "Killishandra! Go see what is going on!"

A guard burst forth through the doors with a bloody lip, "A fight your Grace! The worshippers are all fighting outside!"

Amaris leaned forward with her brows raised, "DEAL with it, you coward! What are you doing back in here?"

The guard bowed and went back outside to deal with the crowd.

There was a gust of wind that announced Killi’s return but at Amaris’s order the air displaced with a pop and the Venatrix was suddenly on the steps outside the Temple. “What is going on out here? Why are you disturbing the Goddess with your fighting?” She asked in a deadly calm voice that managed to cut through the din. Her eyes were shading to red and her fangs were slightly elongated.
