The Palace of Divine Grace - The King's Throneroom
The kings golden throne sits on a with four steps that lead up to it. The dais and steps are covered in a crimson velvet. A black silk canopy, spangled with tiny diamonds that look like stars, is parted above the throne and pools at either side of it on the dais. A white velvet runner, lined in red leads to the first step of the dais. On the steps of the dais are pillows where the King's consorts and wives recline or kneel. On either side of the long room are low benches covered in blue velvet where the King's advisors and other members of the court sit.

The walls of the throne room are white marble decorated with squares of gold that depict various predators in bas relief. Above the middle of the long runner, hanging low from the ceiling, is a dazzling gold and diamond chandelier that illuminates the whole room.

Morbus slouched back in his chair, his crown lowered over his brow so that it casts a shadow over is metallic eyes. He inhales methodically, like a calm predator channeling focus. He clicks his fingers and a human is immediately ushered towards him. Whilst the King drinks Chosen or Number blood, human will suffice; however, disgusted by the inferior species, he has his human meals dressed specifically: bodies completely covered in white cloth, with a sheet of chainmail covering their face, only their necks exposed. The King eyes the human, before grabbing it by the wrist, pulling it into a painful arch below him, and burying his mouth against the tender nape. When the body grows limp, the King grins, pushing the body off so it rolls, ungracefully, down the steps. The King sits upright as attendants scurry in to dispose of the body.

"Killishandra," the King summons his Knight, "The reports on the rural lands, the human population." He crosses a leg, focusing with intent as he grows with motivation. He had aimed to use his powers to rot the vegetation, therefore driving the humans into urban areas like cattle, for vampires to exterminate.

His utopia was divine genetics and perfection, and the his first goal was to eliminate all humans; either by feeding on them, or infecting the strongest.

Killishandra stood off to the side and watched Morbus feed. She was as disgusted by his treatment of them now as she had been he had first descended into cruelty and her recent discussion in the garden with Him just added to that disgust. She touched the white rose tucked behind her ear and stepped closer to him, leaning one arm over the back of the throne.

"The rural lands remain rural and the humans continue to do what humans do. We haven't received reports back from all of the census takers so I do not have firm numbers to give you.

She leaned in and lowered her voice. "Do you still truly plan on going through with your plan on killing all of them? Have you not come to see the folly of this?"

The Pestilence King raised a hand as Killishandra leaned over him. "You seem to forget," he coiled his fingers, and the white rose petals started to decay and drop off, "Who you are speaking too."
Morbus had this confident authority as King, especially when it came to any of the Originators challenging his word. His lips curled at the mention of killing all humans, which gave a small insight on his abilities. When it came to control, and life itself, Morbus was the most powerful Originator, claiming himself as the Horseman of Death. His own ability could jeopardize the life of all three Originators... Yet he has sworn to never attempt assassinating the other holders of the Nephilim Code.

He sat up, twisting his torso to face Killishandra. He bared his fangs, saliva inked red. "There is no folly when I can drink vampire blood." He laughed cruelly, stepping off his throne to pace down the stairs. "Humans lack the Nephilim Code... Yes, Chosen and Dhampires are impure, but they contain a strain of the Code. Chosen and Dhampires can reproduce. The Fallen gave us the mission to cleanse this world. I intend to infect the world with the Code, and that any carrier serves the Brethren and me."
Morbus clenched his fists, closing his eyes as he imagined the outskirts of his kingdom begining to rot. "Or have you forgotten about the power of The Fallen, and what he wanted to do to humanity?"

"Give us the room," Killishandra growled as she stood. When the room had been cleared and Morbus had stepped off the platform she walked down herself. As she did so the white rose began to bloom again.

"I remember exactly who you are. We were best friends once or have you forgotten that?" She started pacing around him, moving like a panther. "Have you forgotten we were given the power of the Code to protect humanity and keep the ones that remained from falling back into the sinful ways of the past? What happens when the last ones die? Then we will have failed the last of the Fallen-the one who made us who we are and all that will remain are the four of us and the children our children and grand-children make and feed upon. Do you think Amaris wants the Code to be used like this?"

The Huntress's voice, rarely raised, had settled into a low, bass rumble as she continued pacing the room, reminding Morbus that whilst he might be King she was the Venatrix and not to be trifled with.

"Do you think Zen would approve? You forget there are four of us and solipsism is madness."

"Silence, wench," Morbus bellowed, his eyes flaring with a tiny of gold. "I have deemed that it is human nature to be violent, abusive of their own kin. Have you observed how the Chosen have attacked their own human families? It is because the Fallen has designed the Code, our instinct and hunger, to eliminate such filth. Hunger is the reason for us to kill, humans do it on a whim."
As soon as his sister was mentioned, the King spun on his heel, using the momentum to slap the back of his hand against Killishandra. "Don't you disdain her name."

The King hissed, baring his fangs before heaving his chest as he calmed himself with heavy breathes. "My sister grows tired of the weakness, the child-like naivety of humans. They do not learn, ever. Each generation repeats patterns, they are all scared and violent and unambitious." His voice started to become steady, cold again, as he was cynically analyzing the behaviourism of humans.
"Zen is passive, inactive as an Originator. They are locked up in their own thoughts.  Zen has no place in modern affairs, nor would they have an interest in it. And as for you, Huntress... I care not for your input. Your role is keeper of the Goddess's peace, and therefore you shall uphold her propaganda... Which is, vampirism is a blessing. True bloods are godlike, to inherit the Earth."

He lifted his upper lip, revealing fangs, and bared his nails. "I would advise you not to challenge me. You were given the gift of fire to purify... But I have the complete power of decontamination."

Killishandra laughed, her own eyes flashing gold. “Really? Wench? As if I am some common barmaid to be told to shut up? Thank you for the laugh, old friend. You have deemed human nature to be what it is? It’s been that way since the first monkey killed his brother, long before we were born to our mortal lives.”

She saw the strike coming as if it were in slow motion and reached out casually, almost languidly, and caught Morbus’s hand. Her eyes shaded to deep crimson-the black pupils amidst the red appearing as if portals to Hell. “You forget yourself. You may be King but I am the Venatrix, chosen by she who I have loved and served whilst stars have burnt out. I have never spoken her name with disdain but love.”

She let go of his hand and drew back her lips, showing the perfect white of razor sharp fangs. “Ignore the Bishop at your own peril for they are far more outward looking than you give give them credit. They have their own agenda and yes, they still brood over the broken promise but they see more than you think.”

She stepped close to Morbus and spoke in the caressing whisper one would reserve for a lover. “I know what can kill me and it isn’t your disease. You know I am the strongest and most resilient of the Four. Remember that, my dear king.”

"Your king, old friend," Morbus reiterated, leaning closer to cut the inches between them. He grit his teeth before turning around. "Everything must die, eventually. Lucifer and I have seen to that. Disease is a beautiful, cunning killer. My own infection acts like a parasite to Brethren... It's quite amusing, a vampiric disease draining a vampiric entity." A grim smirk spread his face. "Nothing will change my mind, Killishandra. The vampires clear the human population, so my infection, by natural law of reaction, will control everything."

"Death was inevitable when He made Creation and decreed it so. You and Lucifer had no say in that. But I wonder at the inevitability of death given us. Perhaps we shall continue until the Universe itself dies or, if it is truly infinite and eternal does that mean we are as well?"

She stepped up to Morbus and kissed him on both cheeks and the forehead. "Perhaps not but have you ever known me to give up?"

She smiled and was gone so fast not even he could track her passage.

The king's scribe, Eldrin Argoso entered the throne room and bowed at the door. "My King, if I may approach with today's news?"

The Brethren was a nephew, one of King Morbus' sister's children. He had the coloring of his poor father, instead of Amaris. The father had been murdered after his conception, some 200 years ago. Eldrin was golden blonde with bright blue eyes and fairly tall. He wore his hair closely cropped against his skull.

"Ah, yes," the King answered, "and after the report, tell me, how are preparations for the upcoming event." By event he meant the Blood Ball, a tradition invoked by the King during milestones, as either celebration of his reign, or a ruthless reminder of his horrific nature. As they infamous name follows, Morbus prides himself in finding exotic humans from across the globe with varying blood types and physical phenotypes, to use as living blood fountains. The King had invented blood jewelry and furniture for this occasion.

Eldrin approached, holding up the paper and reading its contents, "The Historian has pulled more useful technology from the deep past of your time. A thing called a campfuser? A box that lets you complete tasks but you must tap your fingers about on it like so." He tucked the letter under his shoulder so he could wiggle his fingers like he was typing. "Would you find the plans for this device useful, or must we hide it in the vault with the autogobile and the many gum designs?" He made a shooting gesture with his hand then pulled the letter out again.

The King narrowed his eyes at his kin's offspring. "You're not a court jester, so stop with the charades," A foul toned voice interrupted Eldrin, creating a shameful atmosphere, before he added, "You are a descendant of the Goddess. Don't lower yourself or the bloodline with misconduct."

He rolled on his throne, sitting forwards. "The technology discovered by The Historian sounds useful for efficient labour. Yes, have it constructed. But it's a second priority... Now,  for the Blood Ball..."

The man's throat worked nervously. "O-of course, Your Majesty. All is underway for the Blood Ball after the Festival. A-and I must say that my mother has been acting strange again."

He knelt before the king. "Forgive me for not making that my first announcement. I know that you want to be told immediately when she has her episodes."

The king immediately gripped his fists, the friction of his thumbs and knuckles creating a squeamish sound. Whilst he had lack of telepathic abilities, inside affairs would eventually leak to him. With one of the Originators growing unstable, alarm would always rise.

"What does my sister speak of? What has she done? Her and that Huntress," He gritted his teeth, a controlled but low hiss spat out, "Tell me now, Nephew."

"I am not sure, your most royal highness." Eldren al Amaris said with a concerned quaver. Although he was a nephew, he knew that Morbus had been testier than normal these days. He may see the inside of the dungeon for not know... or worse.

Just then the doors to the throne room burst open and a guard came through. "Your Highness, the Venatrix and the Goddess sent us all out of the room! The Venatrix was crying! I came as fleetly as I could. I'm afraid I knocked down one of your cooks in my haste. My speed made me too blurry for the human to see."

Morbus sat still, unemotional, staring at the guard. Within a second he had fleeted, claws digging into the throat of the guard as he raised him above the ground. Morbus's muscles were strong, not strained in the slightest, and he calmly hurled the body aside. "Normally I would rid of you for your poor composure... But I have to prioritize my sister and the Venatrix. Don't come across me again, Number."
He felt his body shift, jumping across large distances. He could feel the commotion, the swarm of frantic human lives. A sickening concoction of sweat, pheromones and adrenaline flooded Morbus's nostrils, causing him to exhale with disgust. "Animals."

The Huntress stalked into the room, all liquid grace and coiled strength. She stopped before the steps leading to the throne and inclined her head to Morbus.

"You wished to see me, Majesty?"

The King was standing as he faced his throne with his hands clasped behind his back. The fingers clenched together in a barely contained rage.

"Why weren't there more guards outside of my sister's temple to prevent such a ruckus?"

He turned slowly, his black mood darkening his visage. His brows were furrowed and his eyes were narrowed as he gazed at the woman who he'd built this empire with for 10,000 years.

"And what are you keeping from me regarding Amaris?"

"There were guards, my king. The same amount as are always placed there. We couldn't anticipate the presence of a magic user or that they would be so brazen as to do what they did in front of the temple. I'm going to station additional guards and a Hound out there until the threat has been eliminated."

She stopped for a moment and shook her head. "It is the old pain, Morbus. I wish I could see her smile once again. That radiant smile that could light up a room but I don't think that will happen, despite my telling her I missed her smile and that spark of life she once had. She simply goes through the motions of life and I wish she could find Some measure of peace and happiness"

She shook her head again. "I fear she never will."

Morbus narrowed his eyes and it was clear that he suspected there was more to what was being said than that. He leaned forward, "You and I... we made a promise years ago to never betray the other..." His heavy brows lifted with the implication that he felt she was going back on her promise. "Will I have to bury my friend in the deepest pit I can find and keep you fed on drugged humans for all eternity?"

"A promise we have both kept. Do you think I've forgotten that we were best friends in our mortal days and built this kingdom on the ruins of this ravaged world together? We are, the four of us, victims of circumstance and powers and principalities that are not finished with us."

She sat down on one of the steps. "No matter how much I wish it were otherwise. Do you remember the trains of our youth? We are on one and it is moving faster and faster but it is not a runaway. There is yet a hand on the controls and that hand belongs not to one of us."

His smile was secret, and his eyes glowed with a light of 10,000 years of too much power and too much time. It had not been the sort of life a man like him should have had. In the days before the end, he was a spoiled prince of a powerful sheikh. Amaris had been the little sister he coddled and controlled even then. While he'd always been kind in his own way, he had always taken power for granted, and had always been given whatever he wanted. What he wanted now was all the power, and no one would take it away from him.

"Your perception is such, but I number myself as the one on the controls. Amaris will do as I say." he said with a dark smirk.

As they were speaking, a knock sounded on the door of the throneroom.

Morbus' brows lowered but he called out to enter. A guard walked in while escorting a handsome man.

"Ah." Morbus said with a slight look of annoyance, "So he found you."

The Huntress laughed. She could not help herself at the arrogance which had been unbridled before but now seemed unhinged. She laughed until blood streamed down her face and made her dark clothing glimmer.

"Think you so? Truly?" She said once she was able to speak again. "Your hand is but one of four but overlaying those is another and it is His that guides events that have been, are, and shall be. He is not yet done with this world, Morbus-"

She stopped at the knock on the door, anger turning her eyes even more red, and waited to see who disturbed them.
