The City of Amapolis - The Temple of Amaris - Outside
So far, Chen had managed to figure out two things based on context and the things Long had been telling her. One, he was somehow responsible for manipulating the way vampires felt -- an ability that, interestingly enough, did not seem to apply to her -- and two, that she was the daughter of someone of VERY high rank, to carry a personal key of the Bishop's garden and be personally acquainted to the King and Goddess, even if possibly indirectly. She watched the scene at the Temple for a moment, but as guards came pouring out of the building, followed by someone that she felt had quite obviously the authority to make even the stronger vampires regret crossing her, it was not hard to decide which of the two choices was preferable. She turned back to Long.

- "Okay, but if you want to make this up to me, i'm going to want that explanation. Lead the way."

She smirked at Long, hopefully letting her know that she wasn't being all too serious with her request (though it would certainly be welcome), and motioning for him to show her where the gate she had a key to was. She'd never been in the Bishop's gardens before, had never dared set foot in them regardless of the confidence she had in her abilities, but compared to the situation here she'd take her chances there rather than someplace vampires were being arrested.

At her permission, Long draped his arm around her shoulder and rushed them under his power of redirection towards a red gate on the wall to the right side of the temple where there were tips of greenery showing above the edge of the wall. He fumbled in his robes for the key and opened the gate which clattered noisily against the wall when it opened because of his clumsy haste.

Chen was still highly uncertain of whether this was the right thing to do, but sat down at the tree anyway. Her Divination this morning had said that she needed to be at the Temple today and, while it hadn't gone into specifics as usual, she was pretty convinced this was the encounter she had been fated to have. And if that encounter involved meeting a stronger vampire, so be it.

"Bring me two Magic Hounds," the Huntress commanded the nearest guard. "I doubt this sort of thing would have happened on its own nor ended so quickly."

She kept walking amongst the humans. "Would it? None of you would defile this ground when you seek the boon of the Goddess? Is that not correct? Which makes me think there is more afoot here. So none of you will leave this square until the Hounds have made sure. The guards will keep you in place and you will be free to move about again once I have given the order."

As she moved she locked crimson eyes with human orbs. The Venatrix was not known for her cruelty and, indeed, had protected humans many times over the millennia but her justice could be swift and final if it was called for.

The crowd murmured as their eyes shifted with shame. Many eyes scanned across the courtyard to see if they could somehow find out what caused it.

The man that had first shoved the woman stepped forward with his head bowed. "Was my fault yer eminence. I was the one what first shoved the lady. I thought she'd cut for some resin. Dunno why I thought that... obvious she was there first."

The woman he shoved waved her hand, "I think it was me. I yelled at him."

More of the crowd spoke up that they were to blame until a new cacophony of regret and apologies overwhelmed the courtyard.

The guard bowed and went his way to find the hounds.

-- From The King's Throneroom --

Morbus had landed at the very end of the line, his dark silhouette already catching glances. He began walking towards the temple, and as he passed groups of people, a majority began to freeze in jagged poses. This was his Mindhive, an ability to collectively manipulate numerous consciousnesses under his own. Whilst this was mainly targeted at pests and small animals, any insecure or dying humans would lose willpower. He continued padding Cooley towards the temple, refusing to let his eyes meet any humans.

Instead, handfuls of people were trapped like marionettes, whilst others shrieked with horror. Morbus made the poses more painful, distorting people into broken archs. "You come here to demand wishes from a God?" He shouted out towards the many selfish humans exploiting Amaris's ability of luck, "Well now you shall pray, and beg for forgiveness." Immediately, the simultaneous sound of bones crunching as knees were dropped to the ground cascaded the air. Many people moaned in agony and surprise.

"That's not enough--" Morbus growled, waiting for some stronger willed humans to follow. Instead, he continued to put pressure on the crowd he controlled. He raised his hand, then slammed it down; all humans tried using their arms to push themselves up, but their faces were forced into the cobblestones. "Bow," He demanded, raising their heads up and crushing then down again, "All of you bow to your superiors."

He stared at the crowd, holding his control for a second longer, before calmly releasing. By this time, he had walked across to the temple and was standing in front of Killishandra. He stared at her head on, almost as if to signal that this was his form of justice, defending his sister. "You sent for two Magic Hounds?" He stated in a serene voice, levelled and soft, "You suspect magic activity?"

Killi frowned as she sensed Morbus approach, knowing he would make the humans suffer and, true to form, he did just that. She would not argue here and now for they were two of the Originators and as such presented a united front in front of all others.

"Indeed I did and indeed I do, My King. The crowd devolved into a mob so suddenly and here, of all places, that I suspect a Mage may be responsible. I intend to root them out and end them publicly as the Law demands and as a warning to others of their ilk."

She looked around the crowd again. "Use of magic is crime enough but to do so before the very Temple of the Goddess is sacrilege."

Morbus stepped closer to Killishandra, his eyes glinting with ambition. "I have other plans for these Magic Users," he stated, a dark grin teasing his lips. "I intend to execute them old friend, but I want any captured Magic Users to be sent to the dungeons with the rest. Inform the Hounds when they arrive..." His eyes lingered on the Venatrix before he added with a gracious smile, "Please."

The Huntress couldn't help but smile back at Morbus for they had known each other through time and times beyond human comprehension. "As you wish, My King, so shall it be done," she told him before dipping into a shallow curtsy.

Three hounds came forward. Two of them were shifter males who were in their wolf forms. One was a Number with blue hair and no pupils. The shifters were large and powerfully built men with broad shoulders and big muscles. They wore their hair shorn closely to their head and each sported several earrings in their ears. The Number was female and tall, also with her hair shorn. Despite being a number and seemingly blind, she was eerily beautiful and could have passed for a Brethren with her exquisite looks. They touched their palms against their foreheads and bowed to the King, and then the Venatrix.

The three special hounds fanned out amongst the now moaning crowd, searching the prone citizens who no longer had the means to run away from the hounds' analyses. If the three lower citizens felt any sympathy for the plight of the innocent crowd, there was none on their blank faces. Women and children especially flinched away from the blue haired woman, her reputation of being insane preceding her.

Finally, they returned to Killishandra and the woman stated. "There is one magic user kneeling over there. They pointed towards the door of the temple. "And we sense a great deal of magic coming from our most precious Bishop's garden."

Killishandra waved the guards forward. "Take the magic user to the dungeons and make sure they are well secured. I will speak to the our 'precious Bishop' myself. The three of you are dismissed. The Goddess thanks you for your service."

The Venatrix spun and walked to the wall surrounding the Garden before vanishing in a pop of displaced air, having leapt the wall so fast it was near unto impossible even for other vampires of power and age to see.

She walked the Garden looking for Zen and anyone else that might be present.

The two male hounds took the poor man they'd found to be a magic user, and the girl with the blue hair followed after her mistress to the garden. She did another sweep of the crowd, but other than pain and suffering, there was nothing else to see.

[From the Garden]

The Venatrix walked Long out of the Garden and to King Morbus to whom she tendered a shallow curtsy. "The situation is under control here, Majesty, though there is investigation to be done and then I shall take troops into the city proper. It would appear we have a magic user there foolish enough to use magic on the Bishop's Son. Such a slight will receive the harshest punishment. And I must travel there based on the words of prophecy spoken by our Beloved Goddess."

She curtsied again. "By your leave, My King."

"Be quick!" the king growled tersely as he stormed off towards the palace. His guards took a few more of the worshippers, leaving the rest of them quaking in fear in front of the temple.

"Come along, Long. We shall go to my home so we can talk and I can learn what was done to you. This is an offence my grievous that needs must be dealt with an you are going to help me." Killishandra began striding purposefully to her combination and manse knowing Long would not be foolish enough to defy her.

"Father is getting more and more unstable lately, I  hope you realize." Long said as he followed after Killishandra towards her place. "He believes I've been turned into his sister. To be honest, I'm surprised that he let me go with you. I guess that tree really is more important to him than his own son." Long snorted, realizing quite well that he was referring to the originator by the wrong pronoun. It was one of his favorite rebellions.

"Zen has been dealing with a promise long kept and denied so what was once, very long ago, eccentricity, has turned into something more. Perhaps your change will help restore some measure of balance. That is my hope," the Venatrix replied as they walked towards her Temple and Barracks.

Long's mouth dropped open in outrage then snapped shut. He gritted his teeth and swallowed most of the rudest things he would like to say to Killishandra. With a shaky voice he asked, "So, you have no intention to help turn me back into a man?"

"I didn't say that but I am no Mage and since it was magic that changed you it will be magic that changes you back and for that we needs must find the one who did this to you in the first place," The Venatrix replied before falling silent.

Long huffed, knowing that most of them might want to keep him as a girl if it helped to stabilize Zen. "I guess there's only room for one crazy goddess..." He muttered under his breath.

As they continued walking, Killishandra's temple showed up in the distance.

"Mind your tongue and be grateful the King is not here to have heard you say that." Kili said in a low growl as they continued walking towards her Temple. "Bishop's child is a title that carries just so much weight with him.

Long glared at Killishandra's back as they continued to walk, but he had nothing else to give as a retort.

One of the King's messengers approached Killishandra on her way and mentioned, "The king wishes to see you in order for you to give a report."

The Historian paled at the idea of seeing King Morbus so quickly.

"Stop glaring at me in that tone of voice," Kili said as they walked towards her temple. She was about to say something else when the messenger walked up to her.

"Very well. I shall see him now." She turned to Long. "Head to my Temple and await me there. We shall discuss your issue in greater detail upon my return."

With that she turned on her heel and headed for the palace.
