Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

A sharp retort, like the crack of distant thunder, slices through the excited crowd as the sun’s setting rays paint the western sky. A stray dog that has crawled under a nearby wagon to sleep starts awake, and the buzz of two dozen conversations quickly hushes as all heads turn toward the central podium, where a beaming Father Zantus has taken the stage. He clears his throat, takes a breath to speak, and suddenly a woman’s scream slices through the air. A few moments later, another scream rises, then another. Beyond them, a sudden surge of strange new voices rises— high-pitched, tittering shrieks that sound not quite human. The crowd parts and something low to the ground races by, giggling with disturbing glee as the stray dog gives a pained yelp and then collapses with a gurgle, its throat cut open from ear to ear. As blood pools around its head, the raucous sound of a strange song begins, chanted from shrill, scratchy voices.

Goblins chew and goblins bite.
Goblins cut and goblins fight.
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force!
Goblins race and goblins jump
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be dead!
Chase the baby, catch the pup.
Bonk the head to shut it up.
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,
We be goblins! You be food!

Pandemonium sets in almost immediately, as the crowd panics and flees in every direction. Father Zanthus' pleas for calm are drowned out in screams of terror. Everywhere anyone looks, goblins tear through merchant stalls, menace locals with their dogslicers, throw rocks through windows, and otherwise make terrors of themselves.

As the crowd disperses, you see a group of five of the little terrors, including the one that just killed the dog, move towards you to attack!

OOC: OK let's start here :-) See the map more details. The dog next to Rini is obviously her wolf!

For the first round the crowd is still fleeing in panic. Area effect spells are likely to catch innocent bystanders. Also, I'm going to say the entire area is difficult terrain for the first round as well, so movement is halved, and goblins have cover.

Goblin initiative is 14, I'll have all 5 go together for simplicity. Roll for your initiative, and post actions. If you roll low and want to wait for the goblins to go, let me know in a short post.

For inspiration see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI7FkvGC5GA - apologies for cross-genre posting :-)

Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Jasna ambled slowly back toward the center of town.  It had been a lovely afternoon.  A quick trip home to wash off the Gauntlet's mud with a dip in the ocean (not always safe, so she'd gathered up her shield and morningstar, just in case), then treated herself to substantial portions of all the lunch options while helping serve them up.  The Swallowtails had been enchanting, the sight of the big orc covered in butterflies earning giggles from the kids (and some of the adults).

Familar with the junk-hunters of the beach, Jasna knew the sound before she actually saw any of the little terrors.  Goblins!  She moved surprisingly quickly when real danger reared its head and moved to box in the nasty little beasties.  "Get behind me!"

She shook her head and waggled her finger at the nearest goblin.

"Put that down, little one, or you'll hurt yourself."

The little beast's dogslicer began to burn red-hot, glowing like it had just been plucked from the furnace!

"Foul creatures!"

Rini snarled the words as she stared at the goblins across the square. Loading a smooth stone into her sling, she spun the weapon above her until it buzzed like an angry wasp. Finally she released the stone toward the pack of goblins.

Flint took a step toward the goblins, a low growl issuing from his fangs.

Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Ophilia was unprepared for a battle and her heart lept to her throat.

Everywhere she looked the goblins were appearing and brandishing weapons.

When Jasna stepped bravely and protectively infront of others tears almost came to her eyes. "She's no monster, shes a hero." she said in a whispery voice.

Then Rini didnt run and stood her ground to fight the menaces. Sandpoint had people willing to stand up and fight.

Ophilia almost ran, she almost hid but she had the spark didnt she ? She wasnt powerless and looking towards the others she wasnt alone.

Like a much smaller, much weaker, infinitely paler version of Jasna she interposed herself between some children and the attacking Goblins. She almost hissed,"Get to your parents and get to your homes children."

Her eyes flickered to the nearest Goblin
"No creature !"

Leleanne couldn't believe what she was seeing. From nowhere, there were goblins everywhere. She'd seen the odd strange humanoid creatures before, but not this many, and none that were openly hostile.

Frankly, Leleanne was frightened. She gripped her fists tightly, and forced herself to think. Darvus's training took over, and she uttered a spell he'd taught her. Drawing on her Goddesses' power, Leleanne granted herself some additional protection.

Once the spell was in place, she looked around, hoping someone with a weapon would be able to help.

Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Cormac had decided to bandage his injured pride through the panacea of good food and good company.  Luckily, both were easily found in the Festival.  He was still enjoying some of the White Deer's venison, stuffed into the heel of a fine loaf for easy carry, when he joined a small group of local halflings for Father Zantus' Prayer of First Dreaming.  The last such gathering resulted in the wondrous sight of countless butterflies.  So Cormac wondered just what surprise he might see at this next event.

He didn't have to wonder long, but was very disappointed at this surprise.  The screaming, the confusion, the panic.  He quickly pointed to the area beneath the speaker's platform for the other halflings with him, "Get down there or you're like to get stomped!"  Despite the warning, he himself charged into the midst of the storm of Big Folk, trying to make it across to what he hoped might be the source of the wicked chant.  A break in the crowd let him finally set eye on the greenskin gang.

His feet slid into a balanced stance without thought.  His hands lifted up, open and ready to fend off whatever attacks might come.  To spur on the villains to look his way, Cormac shouted, "Hey maggots!  Over here!"

"Ophilia!" Eliza called out, seeing the pale woman rush towards the commotion. Goblins? In her town? What were those trash-rummaging buggers doing so far from their nests?

People always said one shouldn't bring weapons to a festival, but Eliza always kept the odd dagger in her boot, just in case some asshole tried to mug her, and today of all days she was glad for that streak of paranoia the Unpleasentness had ground into her;

Quietly, swiftly, the tiefling bounded over to the goblin Ophilia was engaging, strafing around while whipping the dagger out of its sheath with her tail. Not missing a beat, the rogue attempts to drive the pointed tip of the blade into the monster's thigh;

Also, the square has emptied of bystanders largely. The goblins no longer benefit from cover, the terrain is no longer difficult and there is no need to worry about bystanders being caught up in area attacks (apart from your fellow PCs!)

OOC Combat summary - Jasna takes 8 points of damage from goblin crit leaving her with 2/10 hitpoints! Goblin at I13 loses his attack next round. Cormac is flanked. Leleanne has protection from evil.

Initiative order from here on in this fight
Rini and fuck I can never remember that wolf's name her wolf - 25
Cormac - 21
Eliza - 16
Jasna - 15
Goblins - 14
Ophilia - 11 (GM rolled)
Leleanne - 10

The pandemonium continues as people flee the attack to seek safety, whether behind locked doors, under cover or just away from the ankle-biting menace. Soon, only the few brave souls who see the attack as something to repel, not something to flee are left standing in the clearing, with five goblins.

Rini acted first, sending a sling bullet towards a goblin attacker that missed them by a wide margin. Her wolf companion slowly approached the menace.

Cormac dodges the fleeing crowd as best he could, running through legs to approach the goblins. He settled into a defensive stance and intended to repel any attack sent his way.

Eliza moved towards the goblins and drew her dagger, hoping to defend her friend and co-worker Ophilia. But with the press of fleeing crowd she wasn't able to get close enough to use her knife just yet.

Jasna moved to box in any goblins she could, preventing them from getting past her. She gestured and mystical energy heated one of the beastie's weapon to the point of pain. Smoke rose from the goblin's hand and he yelped "Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow!" but was either not quick enough or not smart enough to drop the dog slicer. Instead he found a well close to his position, sprinted for it and dove in! Presumably looking to cool off his singed hands.

Two of the four remaining goblins charged Jasna. One of them had what almost looked like a lecherous look on his face yelled out lustily, "Big sexy! Humma humma humma!" as he rushed towards the giant green-skinned woman with apparently a rather unrealistic sense of self-confidence. They tried to flank the big half-orc with her admirer trying to get behind her. He wasn't quite fast enough to flank her, but both attacked her, with her admirer somehow thinking this would endear him to her? Regardless, with her attention focused on swatting her admirer away from her back side, she lost focus long enough for the other one to stab his dogslicer deep into her belly, up under the scales of her armor (Jasna was crit for 8 damage, 2 hitpoints remaining)

The other two charged Cormac, with one clearly excited shouting, "Maggots? Where maggots?" He was able to fend them off better. Despite being flanked, his defensive stance allowed him to parry the goblin's blows, though one got close enough to brush the hair on his head!

Ophilia moved up with Eliza and gestured, flicking a small piece of fluff at Jasna's goblin admirer. It's attention caught by the distraction, it lost focus on Jasna and started trying to pluck the piece of fluff from the air. (Goblin at I13 loses it's action next round)

Leleanne steeled her composure against the carnage and cast protective magic on herself.

Rini quipped to Jasna as she laid a soothing hand on the orcish woman. Where before her touch had helped to ensure victory, this time Gozreh’s holy light flowed through her knitting flesh and staunching blood.

Still growling, Flint moved quickly in behind the goblin. The wolf snapped with vicious jaws.

As her Goddesses' power encircled her to give added protection, Leleanne looked at the battle in front of her. She gasped as the large half-orc woman, Jasna, she recalled, was stabbed by one of the loathsome creatures.

Grasping her holy symbol, Leleanne moved forward, and called on Shelyn to pass healing energy to the townsfolk fighting. Darvus had taught her how to ensure that it only healed people she wanted, so Leleanne was able to avoid healing any wounded goblins.

In reply to Leleanne (msg # 10):

You're not close enough to either unless you move. Channeling is a standard action, so you can move and channel. You'd have to move to K15 to catch Cormac with the channel (assuming he doesn't move away). Think that's the only square you can reach that still gets you within 30 feet to catch Cormac.

Any thoughts Jasna had about being the object of goblin affection were cut short by piercing pain.

Jasna growled in pain as the dogslicer cut deep, but managed, just, to stay on her feet, clutching at her stomach.  To her surprise, the wound quickly closed under a wave of healing energy, and then a second moments later.  She turned to give Rini and Leleanne a gratified grin.

"I know, I'm just makin' friends with everyone today!  You're a blessin', thanks for the help."

She gave her assailant a swipe with her morningstar, more an annoyed warning than a full-fledged attack, and stepped back to regroup and maneuver.

Cormac felt the knife brush past his head a little too closely as he stepped slightly out of line and slapped away the knife hand, "I meant you, maggot."  Without missing a beat, the halfling  snap kicked at the goblin's shin hoping to knock the goblin's leg out from under him.  Cormac then turned about, taking a quick step inside the other goblin's reach and his loosely open, defensive hand suddenly became a fist.  That fist drove rapidly into the goblin's chest with surprising force.

Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Map updated: Link back to this game

I figure given that many of you are unarmed, there is enough debris around to pick up a broken table leg or what have you and use as a club. One of the goblins is doing exactly that.

OOC combat summary: Rini heals Jasna back up to 8 hitpoints, then she gets critically hit AGAIN by the same goblin, taking her back down to 2. Leleanne's channel brings her up to 3, but she's still hurting. Cormac hits the goblin at L10 taking him down to 2 hitpoints, while his trip attempt misses, and both goblins miss him. Eliza hits (just!) the goblin at I13, taking it down to 4 hitpoints. Ophelia's hex reduced the goblin at N10 to 13 AC.

The clearing is empty now, though the nerve-wracking sound of the goblin war chant still echoes off of buildings and through the air, whipping the goblin warriors into a frenzy.

Rini and Flint moved to flank the goblin distracted by Ophilia's spell. It allowed Rini to heal Jasna without opening herself up for an attack. But the gremlin still had enough presence of mind to dodge out of the way of Flint's lunging jaws. It seemed to snap him out of his daze, though all the goblin had time to do was reply "Bad Doggie!"

Cormac tried to trip one goblin, but it jumped over his leg and taunted him back with a raspberry. His companion wasn't so lucky and the halfling's foot continued around in an arc and pasted him in the face, wounding him, but not hard enough to lay him out completely.

Eliza moved up and drew her dagger. Even if reluctant to join this fight, she felt compelled to stay and fight with her friend Ophilia. She hit the goblin and wounded him, though not enough to put him down.

Jasna's attack, intended more for fright than damage sailed over the head of the goblin she attacked, though with frightening force. The creature returned the favor with more lethal effect, finding a gap in her armor again! The monster's dogslicer wounded her deeply! Despite Rini's magical healing, Jasna was severely hurt again, but still on her feet. Fortunately the second goblin was distracted enough to not attack.

The two goblins attacking Cormac fared worse, with their blows not even coming close to hitting the nimble halfling.

Finally the fifth goblin, the one that had jumped into the well when Jasna heated his weapon, crawled out of it. He moved to charge, then realized he'd left his dogslicer down the well. Instead he grabbed a broken piece of wood as a makeshift club.

Ophilia hexxed one of the goblins that Cormac was engaged with, making it vulnerable to attacks.

Finally, Leleanne stepped up and channeled Shelyn's divine healing, aiding Jasna and closing her wound slightly, though the half-orc was still gravely wounded.

Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

OOC combat summary: since Rini and Flint had a very good round and go first, I've lightly adjusted other posts so you haven't lost them. I hope no one minds!

Rini and Flint take out the goblins around Jasna quickly and professionally. Cormac misses, as does Eliza who moves up to engage and flank one of the goblins attacking Cormac, but also missed. One of the goblins hit Cormac for 4, but Leleanne's channel healed him up so he's only down 1 hitpoint. Jasna is completely healed again. The goblin at N10 is hexed with -2 to his AC. the goblin at L10 is down to 2 hitpoints, the one in the well is down to 5 and the other is full health.

Rini and Flint moved like two hunters used to being partners. She drew her club and mashed in the skull of the goblin on front of her, while Flint leapt onto the other goblin near Jasna and viciously tore out its throat. She could swear she could hear one of the hiding Sandpoint residents give an audible 'ooh!' at her martial prowess. Did she have a cheering section?

Cormac had less luck. While the halfling's fists and feet flew with great speed and skill, the goblins were nimble too, ducking or dodging his blows. He wasn't so lucky, one mis-step and a dogslicer cut him deeply (hit for 4 damage).

Meanwhile, the goblin who had crawled out of the well and grabbed a club charged the halfling! He got only a few steps when he noticed a cauldron of fish chowder on a nearby food cart and decided to charge that instead. He dunked his head in the pot of hot chowder, then screamed in agony as he realized it was boiling hot! He rushed back to the well and dove back in, cooling the burns on his face in the water.

Meanwhile, with the two goblins menacing her dealt with, Jasna was able to heal herself up with the help of Leleanne's channel. The beautiful cleric's channel also reached Cormac, who found his own wound nearly completely healed by Shelyn's holy light.

They were winning the battle, and Leleanne's healing was making a difference. This made the young priestess feel more confident, and she thought about how else she could influence the skirmish.

A thought occurred to her; Darvus had taught her how to befuddle opponents by using a simple touch. It wasn't something Leleanne had used before in anger, but she decided now was a good time.

Leleanne moved forward, and touched the goblin in between Eliza and Cormac.

Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

OOC Summary: combat over, goblins all dead, take a breather, maybe introduce yourselves if you don't know each other.

Seeing more danger, Rini charged one of the goblins attacking the halfling, but missed with her weapon. Flint moved to intercept the one at the well, but fared no better than his mistress.

Cormac's martial arts connected solidly twice with the goblin behind him, ending it. Meanwhile Eliza took advantage of the hex on the other and just managed to connect with her dagger, finishing it off.

The only goblin left was near the well. Jasna moved towards it, but wasn't able to close the distance. The goblin, on the other hand, now burned twice and seeing the big half-orc that had begun his torment, charged at her in a rage, taking his eyes off of Flint. That was it's last mistake, as the wolf took advantage of the opening to snap at the goblin with powerful jaws, ending its threat.

With the immediate threat passed, the group has time to look around and assess their situation. The group is relatively unharmed, with only Cormac showing a slight wound that Leleanne's channel hadn't been able to heal (10/11 hitpoints). Amazingly, despite nearly being disemboweled twice, Jasna showed no sign of the trauma.

While the immediate attack had passed, it was clear the attack on Sandpoint had not. Sounds of pandemonium echo through the air. Goblins race everywhere around the outskirts of the clear space the group has made, running amok and singing and slashing indiscriminately. One grabs a chicken from a market stall and rushes off, apparently with lunch? Another appears to be trying to fit a necklace over its over-sized head with no luck. It quickly gives up and runs off down an alley after a fleeing cat. Another stabs a dead dog over and over and over, kicks it cackles in glee then runs off with arms overhead like a conquering hero. At least half a dozen plumes of smoke rise from the sky around town, and an alarm bell rings in the distance.

Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

As the group introduced themselves, they noticed activity on the cathedral steps. Despite not yet being blessed formally, it was a sturdy and fully built structure, and a place for the wounded to collect. Father Zanthus and the sisters moved through crowds of bleeding and frightened people helping where they could. There was no sign of the town guard, who were presumably off fighting goblins in other parts of town. Goblins still race everywhere, slashing and burning and cackling with glee.

They began to move off South down the high street to check out Brimstone and Spirits when suddenly a bloom of a fireball erupts from a nearby wagon. A group of goblins has found the cart full of fuel for the sunset bonfire and has lit it on fire! An group of five goblins is lighting torches from the cart, presumably hoping to burn more of the town! They see your group and charge at it, shrieking in delight. One of them looks different from the others, armed with a whip and a short bow, she is one of the chanters singing that horrific catchy song that drives the others into a frenzy.

Goblins have 15 initiative, 20 for the warchanter. They're armed with torches and dogslicers, except for the warchanter at V22 who has a whip and short bow. Go ahead and roll your initiative and post actions. See map for group A which you should all have access too - let me know if you don't. Any square that contains a tent or building is impassible and provides cover. Any that contains a table or barrel etc. counts as difficult terrain and provides partial cover. The raised platform counts as high ground, though moving into it counts as 10' of movement.

"The store? But why would-" Eliza's face freezes as she takes in the sheer number of goblins that have invaded Sandpoint. Tiny, nosy grelims who loved fire and explosions.

The tiefling's expression quickly morphs into one of absolute horror;

"The shop!"
she echoes, almost screaming the phrase as she runs after Ophilia, "oh gods- oh no- oh please no-"

The sudden fireball nearly made her heart jump out of her throat, but it was thankfully just a cart. Horrible yes, but just a cart of fuel and not her home and inheritance.

"We can't-" she blurts out, frantic, "we can't waste time here. I- I need to make sure that they didn't- that my shop-" the normally composed alchemist is clearly blabbering, eyes darting wildly as she searches for a means around the hostile goblins.

The goblins act first, moving towards the group, torches waving overhead threateningly, with two moving around the nearby tent on the south side and three with the warchanter moving to the north of it near the raised platform. Unable to reach them yet, the two near the platform pause and enter what passes as a combat stance if you're a goblin, while the other two watch the group, looking like they are ready to cut them off if they run. The warchanter uses its bow to shoot Rini for minor damage.

Jasna moved to close with the closest goblin. The little bugger rewarded the favor and hit her with his torch! She used her weather powers to harass the warchanter, and he hit her again! (takes total of 5 damage from readied attach and AoO). To further add insult, her ability missed the warchanter entirely, who stopped singing just for a second to give her a raspberry, on the beat no less.

Ophilia moved behind Rini and healed her back to full health. Rini shot with her sling but missed, and Flint held his position beside his mistress, eagerly waiting to taste goblin flesh, but none was offered. cormac did better with his sling, nearly knocking the goblin he hit off its feet. The little beast staggered from the impact, but shook it off, not quite out of the fight yet.

Eliza ran off to check her shop, but two goblins gave chase and cut her off! (I'm assuming you use two move actions to move. You're actually 1 or 2 squares further south, but I didn't want to do a new map! apologies)

Leleanne grabbed a staff and got ready to fight!

Re: Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Jasna swung but missed the foe before stepping out of the front lines of battle to catch her breath. Ophelia successfully hexxed her goblin, making him clumsy and unlucky, but Flint still missed him badly when he lunged. Rini enchanted her club into a fearsome weapon and stepped in to hold the line. Eliza swung wildly with her dagger and missed the goblin she was attacking. Cormac had better luck. Moving into Jasna's spot in the line, he tripped one goblin, laying it flat on it's back. Leleanne then stepped forward and channeled Shelyn's divinity once more, healing all of her new comrades fully except Jasna (who is 6/10 again)

Seeing that they were in a real fight, and that the fun with fire was probably over for now, the goblin warriors dropped their torches and pulled out their dogslicers. The warchanter moved forward. Seeing Leleanne negate his horde's hard work he put his short bow away and drew his whip, attempting to trip her, but missed badly. As predicted the goblin cormac had tripped tried to stand, only to have a halfling foot planted firmly in his face. He staggered, but wasn't quite out of the fight yet. The two goblins at the front line swarmed around Cormac, but he avoided them neatly.

Eliza wasn't so lucky. Apart from the group, the goblins took advantage of her isolation and each of them cut her deeply (she was hit once and crit once for a total of 7 damage, leaving her at 4/11) They cackled evilly as they swarmed around her, ready to finish her off if they could.

I've done round three for the goblins, you all can go and finish it up. They rolled well to hit eliza, but fortunately rolled poorly to damage! Everyone is at full health except for Jasna (6/10) and Eliza (4/11)

Re: Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Cormac weaved and shifted his feet carefully.  Sidestepping here.  A slapping away of the goblin's attempt to slice him open there.  He took a chance and grabbed the arm of one of the goblin's as it lunged, yanking it forward and down hard.  He spun away then, neatly stepping around his foe and lashing a foot around low to hook the ankle of the goblin chanter...

Re: Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Leleanne stood in the centre of the skirmish, as her new companions and the goblins fought each other. Then, the fight came to Leleanne as a goblin, who appeared to be their leader, targeted her with his whip. Fortunately it was a clumsy attempt, and she was able to nimbly sidestep it.

The grunts from two of her allies forced Leleanne to continue to channel healing energy, despite the potential threat to her personally. She knew her role was to protect others, even at the cost of herself. Eliza in particular was outnumbered.

08:19, Today: Leleanne rolled 4 using 1d6.  Channel energy (heal).

Re: Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Seeing Eliza in trouble, and judging by the crunching sounds and squawks of pain that her companions had the other half of the battle in hand, Jasna dashed towards the tiefling.  "Hang on, I'll get ye free of that mess!"

Jasna raised a hand to the sky and clenched it into a fist.  From a flat patch of dry ground, a mighty wave erupted, sending one of Eliza's assailants tumbling away in the surf.

OOC: Move to G20.
Using Surge on the goblin in G25.

If successful, Jasna will use the Bull Rush option and push the goblin back (off the current map, I suppose), away from Eliza, as far as she can. (For every 5 by which your attack exceeds your opponent’s CMD you can push the target back an additional 5 feet.)

01:39, Today: Jasna rolled 23 using 1d20+4.  CMB check for Surge.

Yay!  I'm actually helping!

Panicked, Eliza takes a quick step back and swipes an emergency potion from her vest. The tiefling dumps the vial over her wounds, the cuts fizzling as they sealed back up.

Re: Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Seeing the goblins swarming poor Eliza, Jasna and Ophilia moved to help. Ophilia hexxed one to reduce it's danger while Jasna used an improbable surge of sea water conjured from dry land to  push the other far away from the Tiefling. Rini's enchanted club crushed one of the threatening goblins, allowing her to move in on the warchanter. Meanwhile Cormac's own tripping assault left the goblin bard prone on the ground.

Leleanne channeled her healing power again, and Eliza used her extract to fully heal herself (everyone is fully healed).

The warchanter struggled back to his feet, but merely opened himself up to the arcing swing of Rini's enchanted club which very nearly took his head clean off. He certainly wasn't getting up again.

The remaining goblins, seeing their leader nearly decapitated dropped their weapons and ran. The two near Eliza got away to down the road to the south, while the one between Rini and Cormac fled to the North, narrowly escaping the diminutive halfling's own attack of opportunity on his fleeing backside.

End Combat, everyone is full health, Leleanne is down to 2 channels I think if I did my math right...

As the group catches their breath, it's clear that things at the festival itself have calmed somewhat, but that the attack isn't over yet. Here and there, the sounds of battle, clanging swords, calls of support by the town guard, and shrieking and singing goblins echo through the streets, but at the festival itself, in the courtyard in front of the new cathedral, most of the citizens have fled. One or two goblins remain behind to scavenge food in the tents at the edge of the open space, and many more lie dead, along with a few unfortunate citizens of Sandpoint.

Suddenly a scream and pleading cry for help echoes from the North end of the clearing, along with frantic barking. The opposite direction from 'Brimstone and Spirits'.

“Flint, heel.”

Rini barked the command as she sprinted toward the cry for help to the north. She hoped the others followed but didn’t have time to discuss the matter.

Cormac didn't need much discussion either.  He sprinted off after the others towards the sounds of the screams.  Hearing Ophilia, he turned to jog backwards for a moment and gave a wave to indicate someone had heard.  He then spun back around without missing a step and hurried on.  His sling was reloaded on the run, allowing him the chance at potshots and any of the goblin fanatics as he went...

Re: Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Eliza almost dashed straight back to the Brimstone, but the cry for help caused her to freeze. The tiefling's face screws up in a rictus of uncertainty as she glanced back between the alleyway and the direction of her home. Seeing the others immediately respond though, eases the guilt in her heart, and her face smooths itself back to its original...slightly less panicked expression.

"Ophelia, everyone, I-"
she splutters outloud, then calls back, "thank you. P-please keep helping the townsfolk!"

Having said that, Eliza continues her sprint back to the Brimstone and Spirits, praying to Desna and all the deities of the Inner Sea that things would be all right-

Re: Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Before the group split up Father Zantus rushes to their side looking to help. Seeing the group is unscathed, he thanks them for what they’re doing to help fight the goblins and encourages them to continue. He speaks to Leleanne directly smiling and saying, "Go! Yes, Keep helping them," he echoed Eliza. "Keep them safe. Keep Sandpoint safe! Perhaps this is why the Rose brought you to us?" Then he rushed back to the hastily assembled clinic on the temple steps.

Pausing updates in this thread for now, while I split into two others, one for Eliza and Ophilia and one for the rest. Threads should be up soon :-)

Re: Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

At the temple, Leleanne was quickly put to work. Though her magic was almost depleted and her legs were shaky after nearly dying herself twice in the fight, she did what she could. Her healing was greatly appreciated by all who felt it, but even more so, she found herself being addressed almost reverently, one of the brave souls who confronted the deadly goblin threat.

Cormac and Rini found little on the goblins. Certainly no clues as to what motivated the attack. They found a small purse with 20 gold on the warchanter they had defeated, and enough short bows and arrows that anyone who wanted could take one. Otherwise it was all dogslicers and goblin-sized leather and studded armor. Though the commando they'd fought from his mount had a masterwork horsechopper.

They too heard whispers of awe and respect from the townsfolk about the heroes of Sandpoint who saved them from the goblin menace.

OOC: Not much loot at this point, but everyone gets 500 exp for goblin fights, or in Eliza's case retrieving her mother's books. Take a little down time, regroup and react to the attack. Events will continue on script soon.

Re: Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

Cormac made his search of the goblins for any useful clues, but came up with nothing of particular note.  Along the way he helped where he could, directing any injured to the temple where he assured them that help was waiting.  The goblin weaponry was set aside for, likely, scrap.  He did not bother removing armor.  Whenever Rini caught up, came by, or was generally in conversational distance, he offered, "No hint as to why they decided to pull the stunt.  Found a bit of gold though.  Not much, but might be a  help to those that have lost."  He gritted his teeth and tried to resist scratching....for a bit...

Re: Chapter 1: Festival and Fire

There was little to be found on the goblins, but it was clear that the town was grateful for their actions in the fight against the goblins. At one point the baker, Alma Alvertin rushed out to give Cormac a loaf of bread, telling him he was too thin and had to take care of himself.  Leleanne found herself held in almost reverential awe by her superior Sister Celia and her friend Giulia the priestess of Gozreh. Even Father Vanthus seemed impressed with her bravery and the way she risked her life to confront the menace. Rini, often seen as an outsider in town found strangers approaching her with waves, smiles and in a few instances, admiring winks.
