Chapter 1 side thread - die dog die

The group rushes North towards the north town gate. Just east of the White Deer Inn, a goblin mounted on a goblin dog (which is really an overgrown rat) is attacking a noble and his hunting dog. Long time residents of Sandpoint might recognize Aldern Foxglove, a wealthy and local young man. Aldern cowers behind a wagon where he calls for help, while his dog fights off the commando. You are just in time to see the goblin commando kill the dog with his horsechopper. It yelps only for a second then crashes dying to the ground. As it does, commando’s goblin kin (who were themselves cowering nearby as the dog was handled) throw up a cheer and emerge from hiding behind another wagon.

The goblins are distracted by their kill and their attention is on Foxglove, who they advance on menacingly.

The insipid and irritating war chants seem to have died down, and the goblins seem less frenzied than earlier in the attack.

OOC: You get a surprise round, so post actions for this round, and then we'll proceed in initiative order from there. Give me an initiative roll in your post. I'll roll goblin initiative here so you know.

14:14, Today: GM rolled 21 using 1d20+6.  goblin warrior initiative.
14:13, Today: GM rolled 23 using 1d20+3.  Initiative, goblin commando and dog.

Is this within one minute of the last encounter? Or would Rini have to recast shillelagh?

Jasna stepped forward, placing a hand on Cormac's shoulder.  "We'll see this bunch like all the rest.  I'll watch your back, let's not let 'em flank us."

The halfling might take it for simple reassurance, save for the breeze that whips up at that precise moment, tinged with the salt tang of the sea.  "A l'il bit of help from on high."  Jasna grinned.

15:25, Today: Jasna rolled 5 using 1d20.  Initiative.

Jasna casts Guidance on Cormac, and takes a 5-foot step to N9.

Guidance: The creature gets a +1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check. It must choose to use the bonus before making the roll to which it applies. (Lasts for 1 minute.)

Ooc I'd say it has to be at least a minute. Probably less than ten but one minute is pretty quick...

Chapter 1 side thread - die dog die

Cormac grinned all the more as he smelled the salt tang and felt the magic.  Kinda fun having allies for once, "And here's a little something from down low..."  He spun up his sling with an underhand throw.  The bullet whirred free in a low flat arc at one of the goblin menaces....

Initiative - 20

Seeing the marauding goblins harassing another towns person was irritating. Watching the mounted goblin kill the loyal hunting dog was too much for Rini. She let out a low growl and charged the goblins, as she did the thick black thorns sprung forth from her club once more.

Chapter 1 side thread - die dog die

Seeing the mounted goblin, Cormac readied for a charge. He moved up and fired his sling, hitting one goblin and getting its attention. Flint moved in and attacked the same goblin, killing it quickly. Rini prepared her deadly club again, which Jasna blessed Cormac's next move with guidance. Finally Leleanne picked up a rock and bounced it off one of the goblin's over-sized heads, making a resounding *clunk* sound. The little monster looked over at her in slow motion and quietly mouthed 'Ow!' before he and his remaining friend stepped towards the group, dogslicers menacing. The element of surprise had ended, and the fight was on!

From his hiding place, the noble who had called them over seemed impressed by Leleanne's arm, congratulating her with a shout of, "Your throw is as impressive as your beauty m'lady!"

The commando on his 'dog' whirled around and moved south, pulling his short bow and firing at Leleanne, apparently following the 'shoot the one in the dress!' combat strategy. The arrow lodged painfully in her shoulder (Leleanne is down to 4 hitpoints). He rode his mount to the South, leaving his two companions to fight the group, intending to use his mobility to harass them with arrow shots.

Apparently a magnet for goblin aggression, both remaining goblin warriors lunged at Jasna with dogslicers, but both missed badly.

"That's the spirit, y'little twits.  Eyes on me, not them."  Jasna smirked as she sidestepped and returned the favor with a blow that, alas, went just a bit high.

Cormac stuck close by Jasna, moving in with careful steps.  He darted in on the goblin with a series of quick strikes, trying to keep the little blighter off balance and force it into the path of his larger friend's attacks...

Move wherever needed to be in range to Aid Another.

Leleanne, buoyed by the feedback from the noble, smiled. Then she felt a sharp pain in her shoulder, and let out a cry.

Forced down to one knee, Leleanne called on her Lady's goodness once again.

Chapter 1 side thread - die dog die

Used to fighting in teams, though perhaps not as often with a seven foot tall half-orc, Cormac distracted one goblin as Jasna swung her morning star with great force. The little beasty likely would have been able to dodge if not for Cormac's assistance, but with it, the weapon connected and took the goblin down. Rini with her newly enhanced club connected solidly with the other goblin, her muscles and the magical club mashing bone and flesh and leaving the goblin very dead.

Following his mistress's command, Flint lunged at the mounted goblin, teeth sinking deeply into his flesh. It was only the goblin's riding mastery that allowed him to stay in his saddle. Meanwhile Leleanne channeled Shelyn's gift of healing again, healing herself but only lightly.

Paying Flint back, the goblin dog snapped its teeth at the wolf but missed. It turned and rushed its rider away, leaving its flank open to attack from Flint, but the wolf missed it's bite as well.

The mount carried it's rider off to the west at good speed while the rider pulled a potion and drank it, healing the wounds Flint had given it. Once it had created some distance it fired his bow again at Leleanne, now seeing her as a healer and a primary threat. The arrow bit home and knocked her off her feet! (Leleanne is at exactly 0 hit points and incapacitated. She can only take one standard or move action next round, and if that action doesn't increase her hit points, or someone else doesn't heal her, she'll slip to -1 hit point and dying)

Seeing its comrades fallen, the goblin commando tossed its short bow to the ground and prepared to draw it's horse chopper. It looked like it was going to charge!
